  1. I never noticed any accuracy issues when I started using the FCD...I did notice that my gun started running more reliably however!
  2. Yeah...what Tom said! I think right after Rick got his gun done in BC...BodyCoat stopped doing them for the "average guy off the street".....Rick can fill in the details.
  3. I'm using one of these (45ACP) on my Dillon 550B....I can honestly say that ever since I started using it (a couple years ago)...I've not had a feed failure that I would attribute to improperly sized ammo. I think the Lee FCD's are one of the best things ever invented for reloaders.
  4. If it makes you feel any better...I'm about .4% from going A Class in L10....or start going backwards in L10!
  5. Right! So there ya go...race gear (holster/mag holders) don't give much of an advantage....it's all about shooting skill. I also don't believe how the bullets are aligned in your magazine or guys shooting widebody guns in 40S&W...gives them an unfair advantage over me shooting a single stack in 45ACP. When its all done with....either they beat me or I beat them on shooting skill. If someone (new) wants to come out and play in L10 with carry gear...they'd be just as competitive as if they were using race gear! If someone wants to "cross over" and shoot L10 with their Limited gun and they beat me...its not because of the equipment...its because they shot better then me. So why the excitement about limiting L10 to ONLY single stack guns with carry type gear....we've already proven that the gear makes little difference....and others have proven that guns make little difference. Stop screwing with L10!
  6. I spoke with Troy this last weekend at a Level I RO class about the proposed "discussion" at the upcoming BOD meet. The impression I got from Troy was that there was vast opposition to changing L10 and for the sake of burying the discussion once and for all...the changes would be "voted" on .... then killed. .... of course I may have been reading too much into his comments too! I did the same thing Ed did..however I just wrote to my Area rep....his response was that he was already voting against it...unless someone could show him that it was broken and needed fixing....which it doesn't!
  7. I used to shoot using one of these holsters before I decided to upgrade to more of a "racy" holster for Limited 10....it's laying on the floor right next to my computer. It appears that the locking mechanism works on a "space" (or lack there of) principle. The trigger guard of the gun slips into a channel in the holster and then the locking bar is down...the "wings" of the holster are free to move and allows the gun to be removed from the holster.....there is also two small "nubs" in the channel that force the wings to flex outward when the trigger guard of the gun moves over them. When the locking bar is slid into the lock position...the two metal sides of the lock prevent the "wings" of the holster from expanding and prevents the gun from begin removed. If your's isn't working...my guess is that the "nubs" have been worn down to the point that they don't force the wings outward...or the sides of the locking bar have flexed outward slightly and are allowing the wings to flex outward.
  8. I saw something similar to this while working a stage at the Area 1 Championship in the PNW a couple years ago. Shooter gets the LAMR command....holsters the gun....Shooter Ready...Stand-By...... BEEP. Shooter draws...engages first target...gun goes "CLICK"....shooter racks slide...CLICK....again...CLICK. RO does the Unload and Show Clear.....go fix your gun. Shooter returns sometime later....Shooter Ready...Stand By.....CLICK....CLICK. Unload and Show clear...... RO contacts the RM on how to score it.....as Vince pointed out...stage starts on the LAMR command....shooter gets a time of zero....and a pile of penalty points. FOOTNOTE: I looked up the results from the match...they gave him a time of 1.00S and 400 penalty points.
  9. One comment regarding this...the USPSA version of the rules (in .pdf format) is apparently a bitmaped image and thus the text is NOT searchable (nor can you "select" text to copy/paste). I hope the USPSA addresses this minor point next time they publish the electronic version of the rules...its really annoying when you want to refer to a US rule and can't copy/paste it.
  10. The voters were thinking correctly..... Latte Tax Gets Creamed!
  11. I almost wonder if this "RO" was trying to pull a 10.3.2.1 on the shooter. A friend of mine was shooting a stage... was in mid-process of doing a reload (had dropped the mag) and was holding a fresh mag in his weak hand when he noticed that one of the targets only had one hole in it...he engaged the target before inserting the fresh mag. The "RO" said that he could have DQ'ed him under 10.3.2.1.....which we all know is a pile of crap!
  12. What rule number is this in the 14th edition....because I can't find anything that says the RO pulls the HIGHEST scoring hit if they can't positively identify which round went through hard-cover/no-shoot......in fact I can't find anything that address this case at all (i.e. can't identify which round in the scoring target doesn't belong). Maybe this situtation requires a reshoot????
  13. CM99-39 Off Balance Blast -- I wouldn't say that this classifier is easy to shoot...but it seems easy to get a good high score on it! This seems to be one of those classifier where you shoot it....your run doesn't feel that great...yet later when you get the results....they look pretty good!
  14. Gamer!! I'm just wearing my normal "street shorts" for this thing!
  15. I agree with everything Tom said (except for the third eye! ) I've found that my target-to-target transition is quicker given the opportunity to shoot the targets "freestyle". When transitioning to the right, my "ghost" image crosses the next target....when transitioning to the left, the view seems wide open.
  16. I'm curious as to peoples preferred target engagement order. They say that right handed shooters like to engage left to right....and left handed shooters like to engage right to left. For sake of simplicity I'm going to use "right eye dominant" rather then right handed and "left eye dominant" rather then left handed...I realize there are some shooters that are cross dominant (right handed, left dominant....God help them for being cursed!) but I want to keep this simple. Ok...I'll start this off: I'm Right handed, Right eye Dominant and engage Right to Left Order...with both eyes open.
  17. I'll definately have the VCR set for this one!
  18. I got a letter from the USPSA on Friday (along with my official ballot).....it basically said "wanna go to the race gun nats???? Call us!".
  19. I know who the SO was....he works at the same place I do....that should be enough of a hint!
  20. ....and for what its worth....I think Zach's "shove my filing cabinet around while I clear the house" was the stupidest thing I've ever seen!
  21. Hey Tom...when are you going to start teaching classes???? I was there....I seen it!!!!
  22. Yeah...thanks to Tom...he just exceeded the HHF for this stage...and while he was at it....he exceeded the HHF for CM99-56 too!
  23. All I've ever shot out of my 1911's have been Chip McCormick (CMC) Shooting Star mags. I've never had a problem in any of my guns (Colts/Springfields) that could be attributed to the magazine using either the 10 round mags or the 8 rounds mags.....as far as I'm concerned...shoot what works.....CMC mags work! The fact that they cost about 1/2 what Wilson mags cost...makes them all that much better.
  24. We've got a match in our section at the end of the month being run in accordance to the Single Stack Society Rules. http://www.geocities.com/gleeburk/jmbm.html and the discussion has come up if Hellweg TSH (Tactical Speed Holster) or CSH (Competition Speed Holsters) would be legal for use. So I'm curious... "back in the day" when Hellweg made these holsters...were they considered legal for use in the Single Stack Classic matches? I figured someone around here has been shooting long enough to know the answer! The rules at the 1911Society.org website regarding holsters are a bit vague...it states (paraphrasing): "Q: What holsters are legal for the Single Stack Classic? A: The 1911 Society doesn't have an approved holster list. Our rules state. Only safe holsters and magazine pouches, on waist level belt, worn behind a line drawn down the center of the shooter's side are permitted. Belt must pass through pant loops or be attached to pants belt by velcro or keepers...... .....If the holster you thinking about using are designed for USPSA/IPSC Open Guns I can guarantee that it will not be allowed." So were the Hellwegs allowed or were they banned back then?
  25. I completely understand what Brian's saying here....I'm really sensitive to trigger pull....I like my triggers light but if I set the preload too light, I feel like I'm not getting feedback from the trigger like I should be. Consequently, I run my triggers at about 2 to 2.25lbs but it takes some trail and error tweaking to set the preload such that I like it but then not too high such that my final trigger pull is over where I like it to break at.
