  1. Thanks Flex! I tried the same drill with a regular timer (CED) which has a longer beep. Maybe that makes a difference. It's not so much the reload drill that made me wonder if the timer was OK, but just hitting draws. With my revolver, I had a hard time getting point blank draws of lower than .6, but with the Glock (and this timer) I get them at point blank range. I still have the feeling it's not accurate though. If I put the timer on .1 seconds, the time between the start and the par beep sounds too long. I do drop the mags for the reason you mentioned. I shoved a couple of mags back into the gun doing this drill Working with this program made me wonder though. What if there's a difference between real timers (in matches)? I don't think they're ever checked for accuracy...
  2. Thanks for the relpies guys (and a Happy New Year too ) I will run the drills with my real timer and the Computer Timer again to see if there's a difference. I seem to be way too fast with the Computer Timer
  3. I've found this timer on Saul Kirsch's Website. It's kind of neat, because you can put it on loop, and I like the "Are you ready, standby..." thing it can do. I was just wondering if it's accurate. Somehow I don't quite trust it, because I got under 1.5s for a 'draw shot reload shot' at 7 yards in dryfire quite consistently. And I haven't been training with the Glock for that long I tried timing it with a stopwatch, but I can't confirm 100% if it's inaccurate.
  4. James, I have always wondered about that myself. Why would Open shooters use different kinds of magazines? The only reasons I can think of are cost and reliability. If you have the money and the mags are 100% reliable, I'd go for 170mm all the way
  5. Sounds like a conflict between your real feelings (hurting a little animal makes you sad) and living up to other people's feelings/expectations (being a tough SOB is cool). I prefer the first. I'd be glad I felt that way. Life is full of these little conflicts. If I swat a fly, it's OK. If I swat a butterfly, I'm a jerk. If I spray caterpillar-repellant in my yard, it's OK. If I kill the same caterpillar as a butterfly with the same repellant, I'm a lunatic. Things don't make sense. You feel what you feel. As for the analogy with Al Queda, those people are able to behead hostages because they reason their emotions away (they let the "tough guy" win) One more reason to be happy that your compassion prevailed
  6. Man, this is a tough choice. So many good shooters. My first reaction would be Angus and JJ, but when I heard people suggest Travis, that seems like an obvious choice too. If you could get Brian to compete that would be the best ever, though!
  7. +1 on that. Just shoot it and you will know what you want to change.
  8. Really sorry to hear that Hop Tendonitis sucks. I have it in my elbow and my knee. What kind of grips do your roundguns wear? Merry Christmas buddy! Bjorn

LOL, thanks Yeah, I guess I don't really care, but I'm still glad I can take them off though Yeah, one of the problems I had was finding good tape. I got this from a fellow shooter of mine. The stuff is probably 10 years old (or maybe even more). I tried some new kinds of tape. They're usually more adhesive, but tear more easily. The tape is there because the epoxy part on the back strap broke. The grip is now 3 pieces held together by the tape
  11. +1 on the forearms. The only muscles that cannot be strong enough. Just don't train them 3 days or less before a big match. They have to be relaxed to be fast

Thanks for the kind words Dave . Yeah, I listened to Jerry's hits on the last run But it was only because they were so friggin' fast I couldn't help but listen... A 1.8s reload is very good! I remember I got a lot faster after I first hit my sub 2 second reload. Kind of a mental thing I guess. I also like to practice my reload drills at a distance. It keeps you focussed on both the relaod AND the shot after the reload. I use a lot of grip tape, but my grip is not made of wood. My grip started as a factory Pachmayr. I cut the grooves off and trimmed the whole grip with a dremel. I shot that for some time until Saul Kirsch gave me the tip to match my grip to my hand. I then used two-composite epoxy putty to build my grip over the Pachmayr. I slowly added material and the grip works fine. It looks like crap, but it works I secure the grip tape with superglue. This is what it looks like: You're blessed with smaller hands I think. Makes "customizing" your grip so much easier
  13. Looks great. Thanks for the picture. Exactly what I was looking for. It looks like the finish on 2nd Gen Glocks.

Yeah I hit a 1.23 some time ago, but no way I can do that on demand Jerry's strenght is indeed that he can turn his speed up a notch. Also he won the first run against me, but changed his tactics in the 2nd run. He started hosing the big poppers first which totally threw me off, while I was trying to hit the small plate first. This guys doesn't just know how to shoot, but also how to win. The difference in reload times between the Open guys and the Standard guys could be the difference in target acquisition (dot vs front sight) instead of actual reload time. Also, the funnels on open guns in IPSC are larger than standard class funnels (box rule). Sorry for the tread drift
  15. Man! I don't have enough time to read everything, so I missed this whole thing about Chuck actually wanting to leave. Chuck is definately one of the good guys. If you read this Chuck, please stay man! Lots of people have contemplated leaving once or twice, but the onces who did are still missed here

Dave, I think that accurately describes the difference. The switch hands way gives you more time to do every move you have to do. The same hands way is more critical in the way that you can really mess it up if you make a small mistake. The reason I chose the same hands way is that it's sometimes better to use in difficult positions and it's hands down better if you have to do it when shooting strong hand only. Also, when just going for all out speed, the same hands way is faster (I think). Anybody know Jerry's or Ricardo's fastest reload ever? The switch hands way seems way better on the run. Cool that you can choose which one to do. I can just do one way Thanks Ron! Yeah, it's definately a compliment. Jerry is one hell of a shooter. When I saw him shoot the first rounds of the shoot-off I seriously thought I could have him (still want to time our first runs). But he kind of "warmed up" during the shoot-off and in the last rounds I screwed up, but even if I wouldn't have, he was just so much faster. Great guy, great shooter

Keep in mind that Jerry's grips are so slick because he has to throw the gun around a lot when he reloads. If you reload "the other way" you don't need a slick grip. With that in mind, I think it all depends on if you have sweaty hands or not. I use a lot of grip tape. Some other things to consider: 1) The size of "the inside of your hand". Jerry's hands are big, but they're also "thick" making the available size inside his hand when he grips something very small. That is why the grips are too small for some people. 2) The space between your hand and the grip. Normally, if your grip is stock from the factory, you will find there's a lot of "air" between your hand and the grip. Filling this void makes your grip much stronger. Combined with grip tape, it's incredible. 3) Trigger reach. I have very long fingers and like to put almost an extra 1/2" of material on the backstrap of the gun, to make the trigger reach longer.
  18. Kind of off topic, but man, I wish they had a limited capacity auto division in IPSC... We could need one...

    Uspsa Production

A G34 is legal for USPSA. If you are considering ever shooting an international IPSC match, I'd suggest the G17. You can put all the aftermarket stuff in the G17 for USPSA (no external mods), and switch back to stock configuration for IPSC.
  20. The reason you only get 12 in 40 is because the XD-40 uses magazines that have the same inside dimensions as the 9mm magazines. The magazine allows for a close packed stack of 9mm but not with 40 the magazine is too narrow. The XD-45ACP will have both a longer grip and a proper width magazine for efficient packing of the rounds in the magazine. mcb Thanks for the explanation. I hope they'll make .40 and 9 guns on this frame someday. It would be great for international IPSC Production where large capacity matters a lot.
  21. Sorry if this is a stupid Q, but how can they get 13+1 rounds (I assume) of .45ACP in a frame that holds only 12+1 .40s? Even if the frame is wider like the Glock 22 vs. the Glock 20, the capacity should still be smaller, right? I'm really curious, because they could make a nice 15/16+1 .40 gun on the big .45 frame if this is true.
