  1. Cograts! I'm sure glad you moved faster than the R.O. could see.
  2. I thought everyone did this? Guy behind the counter to a customer holding a handgun: "HEY!!! Make sure you check that guns port before you point it at anyone in here!!!" I was standing in a gun shop/indoor range where the owner and his employees seem to know what their talking about 95% of the time, holding a used CZ 75 SP-01 with my natural 30/70 thumbs forward grip that 99% of us use when another patron states "You'll never hit anything gripping that gun like that" to which I responded "Really?" Him: "Yeah, I'm an instructor if you'd like to take some training" Me: "John, (the owner) do you mind if I put a couple of mags through this, I would like for this gentleman to give me some pointers on my grip" John, with a BIG grin: "Sure". We got on the range and I ran the target out to the end and asked him to show how to grip the gun properly so I can shoot accurately. He did this tea cup & saucer type thing and shot a group about 12" on an IDPA target missing it all together 3 times out of a full mag. "I wouldn't buy this gun, it's loose as hell and shoots like crap.". I took it and put the other full mag in it and said "I'll try my grip with the first 6 rounds and then your recommended grip with the rest". I did a "Bill Drill" and placed all 6 in a group of about 3-4" in the center of the -0 zone. When I brought the target back to us he just kind of stood there slack jawed. I said "It must be the gun." He said "That must be some specially trained covert military grip that I've never seen before." He started to say something else but I just ignored him after that and emptied the rest of the magazine. When I got back out into the store he was gone. In a gun shop with a very good friend of mine while he picked up some guns from the owner (He's their Gunsmith). We overheard some guy talking the same old "IDPA's more 'Real World' than IPSC" crap when my friend said "The last time you where in a handgun fight what technique did you use?" He just stared at us as we left. Ranger School Class 9-87
  3. My son, Chase, Received the call yesterday from the BSA that his Board of Review was approved and he is officially an "Eagle" Scout. Chase has been a Scout as long as anyone could be. He joined at 6 as a Tiger Cub and has been in Scouting every since. His next BIG accomplishment will be American Idol which he will audition for in July. Tell me what you think.
  4. No! They will not mess with any parts that you do not express issue with.
  5. I just got back from my range where I experimented with this issue. Merlin, I think you were suffering 'spring bounce' in the mags. When you slam a partially loaded mag into the gun the force causes the rounds to 'bounce' the spring down like when you pack a mag to get more rounds in it, in turn, causing the rounds to be below the feed lips at the time the slide is returning to battery. I had never tried to do the 'slam load' with only 10 rounds of factory length ammo before. I load my 9mm Production loads to 1.165" and I guess this helps because I've never been affected by 'spring bounce' until today when I was using Blazer Brass factory ammo (4 out of 10 tries closed on an empty chamber). I also used Win. Ranger SXT factory hollow points and they did catch under the foot of my chamber (or didn't chamber at all 3 out of 10 tries) because when the mag spring collapses during 'spring bounce' there is no upward pressure under the chambering round allowing it to 'nose dive' as it is being cycled into the chamber. I did this same test with the same ammo with the mags loaded to full capacity and, out of about 30 tries, never had a hiccup. The only time I got a 'nose dived' round in the mag as you experienced was in a mag I that had hit the ground when ejected but I can see it happening during a reload also. I think that what we need to remember is that these guns were not designed to do a lot of things that we do with them. The mags are not designed to be slammed into the gun partially loaded, the slide release was not designed to hold the slide back under 30-60 lbs. of kinetic force etc. etc.. I guess I should change my previous post to state " I can make any M&P stop doing this or I can make it do this consistently with fully loaded mags"
  6. I can make any M&P stop doing this or I can make it do this consistently with fully loaded mags. If yours is not stripping off the top round and is closing on an empty chamber then the issue is slide retraction and tolerances (I have never tried to do this with only 10 hollow point rounds loaded in a mag). The slide is not retracted as far to the rear as it should be in slide lock. This is probably caused due to the slide release lever being worn. If you have rounds nose diving and catching on the foot of the ramp then you need to have the ramp polished and have it feed proofed. If you like your M&P to do this and want it to be consistent then polish the seating point in the slide notch for the slide release and the seating point on the slide release itself. Just polish it with a LIGHT polishing compound and make sure you don't take any metal off or change the angle or you'll get the 'empty chamber' close. I recommend you take it to a good M&P Gunsmith to get it done. If you do not like this then you can fix it by changing the angle on the slide release to a negative angle rather than a positive one. This has to be done to the 'SLIDE RELEASE' not the slide release notch in the slide. If you change the angle in the slide notch then the rail can tear off. Again, I recommend a good M&P Gunsmith. It has been my experience that S&W will do nothing to deal with this one way or the other. As others have stated, the M&P is not the only semi-auto that will do this. My XD did it, my H&K USP compact will do this and I have several 1911's that will do it including my STI's. (Edit: in blue)
  7. Print them out and they make great TARGETS!!
  8. Get instruction or research (The search engine on this site is a great asset) the proper techniques to improve in the areas that you feel hinder you. When you are shooting in the matches pay deliberate attention to making sure you are performing these techniques properly. Don't worry about getting A's and don't worry about speed because if you are using the proper techniques the A's and speed will come. Eventually, the techniques will become instinctive/muscle memory and you'll be shooting fast A's without realizing it because you had been concentrating on what is important.
  9. I probably should have posted this in the humor section. What's wrong with this picture? It's from an episode of Numb3rs and I caught it during a 1 second shot.
  10. Standing around shooting the breeze with their buddies while the rest of the squad is pasting and re-setting the stage.
  11. Great match. Squad 14 ROCKED. A great big thanks to all the staff for their hard work and dedication. deGracia won Production by 7% over the Super Cop, Kevin Ensco and what a battle it was to watch. My bad DP, I saw the 93 as a 98 when we were on the phone. Thank you dirtypool40 (Eric Stanley) for your instruction. I know I shot a lot better for it. I hit everything that I shot at for the first time ever at a major match. (The two mikes I did get were malfunction induced cranial flatulence and I never shot at the target in the array. The rounds were still in my mag at ULSC). This is my favorite match every year and this year was awsome.
  12. I believe that evolving expectations are O.K. as long as they do not become stagnant. I see expectations the same as goals. Once you've reached a goal/expectation then it's time to raise the bar and set new goals/expectations.
  13. Or you could do like I do and never shoot an IDPA classifier so you remain unclassified. Then you are just shooting for H.O.A. and nothing else. I kind of wish I could have done this in USPSA/IPSC. Like Here
  14. Dang it Flex!! I was trying to start crap and you ruined it. I wasn't smacking on Matt I just wanted the original poster to know that DP40 is a very reliable source. It came across different when I typed it than it did in my head (which is the case a lot of the time ).
  15. It's not everyday you can get 3 GM's in a row giving you a nice detailed critique of your skillz! That's 4 GM's dirtypool40 ain't chopped liver. His reloads are, if not the fastest, some of the smoothest I've ever seen. I've seen Travis and Jake reload and Eric is right there with them. Anyway, as Eric stated, get your thumb on the mag release with a purpose. You want the released mag out and clear while still getting the reload hand on the fresh mag with as little happening in between as possible. I notice that you 'swing' your left hand to the mag in an arc. Try bending the elbow more and get the hand to the mag in more of a straight line. Think about the speed difference between a roundhouse punch and a jab.
  16. I've had quite a few shooters D.Q. themselves while I was R.O.ing them and I've D.Q.ed myself while friends were R.O.ing me. It sucks every time. I even had a friend D.Q. herself yesterday by breaking the 180. The only part that made me feel bad about the whole issue was having to call a D.Q. on a friend for breaking the 180 on a stage that I had earlier expressed 180 trap concerns about. My wife is contemplating getting into this IPSC thing and if she does and she D.Q.'s while I'm R.O.ing her I'll sure as heck call it and visa/versa. Safety is first and bruising a friendship/relationship a little to make sure noone gets hurt or killed is worth it in my book. Besides, a true friend would understand.
  17. Really??? My current M&P has about 10,000 rounds through it and I have never cleaned the bbl.
  18. There's not enough difference for me to pay more for the Pro version over the 9L. Besides, the 9L is a better looking gun.
  19. The title makes a person think it's about buying drinks for an exotic dancer.
  20. Accuracy/Points is #1 in Production. This is coming from a pretty fast but not so accurate Prodution shooter who keeps getting his butt kicked by slower but more accurate Production shooters. Here's a really good example of a stage I though I smoked on until the results came in. Notice the B class shooter (Who shoots consistantly accurate by the way) shot the stage almost 8 seconds slower than I did but beat the crap out of me in points. If we had been scored major pf I'm pretty sure I would have beat him even with the miss. Get the points and the speed will come. You have to always design your speed around you accuracy because you can't design your accuracy around your speed. 1 McCulloch, Brad 61 A Production 135 0 25.63 5.2673 145.0000 100.00% 2 DeGracia, Jeff 36 GM Production 129 0 25.60 5.0391 138.7180 95.67% 3 Wallace, Bruce 58 M Production 130 10 25.47 4.7114 129.6970 89.45% 4 Sanabria, Joel 55 B Production 139 0 30.54 4.5514 125.2925 86.41% 5 Cook, Daniel 30 A Production 112 10 22.78 4.4776 123.2609 85.01% 6 Elmore, Patrick 37 B Production 121 0 28.08 4.3091 118.6223 81.81% 7 Corley, DeBee 51 B Production 133 0 31.34 4.2438 116.8247 80.57% 8 Plumer, Dean 34 C Production 137 0 32.39 4.2297 116.4366 80.30% 9 Markland, David 52 B Production 131 0 31.05 4.2190 116.1420 80.10% 10 Owen, Donald 62 C Production 127 0 30.43 4.1735 114.8895 79.23% 11 Murphy, Bryan 29 U Production 133 0 35.13 3.7859 104.2195 71.88% 12 Hammond, Mack 59 A Production 124 10 30.60 3.7255 102.5568 70.73% 13 McCune, Bill 63 B Production 131 0 35.82 3.6572 100.6766 69.43% 14 Kaewplang, Ann 35 C Production 124 10 33.16 3.4379 94.6397 65.27% 15 Gibson, James 27 D Production 119 0 34.86 3.4137 93.9735 64.81% 16 Crotty, William 32 D Production 129 0 38.16 3.3805 93.0595 64.18% 17 Dembkoski, Jason 54 U Production 111 0 33.39 3.3243 91.5124 63.11% 18 Messina, Todd 57 C Production 123 0 37.23 3.3038 90.9481 62.72% 19 Crotty, Zackary 31 C Production 106 10 29.79 3.2226 88.7128 61.18% 20 Snyder, Daniel 49 U Production 115 0 37.00 3.1081 85.5608 59.01% 21 Hudson, Jim 38 U Production 121 0 39.08 3.0962 85.2332 58.78% 22 Stimpfling, Bob 53 U Production 116 10 35.21 3.0105 82.8741 57.15% 23 Jones, Nick 56 U Production 98 10 33.02 2.6651 73.3658 50.60% 24 Bailey, Jim 26 U Production 108 10 40.59 2.4144 66.4644 45.84% 25 Conn, Patrick 28 U Production 133 0 56.76 2.3432 64.5044 44.49% 26 Fronek, Brian 48 U Production 136 10 59.46 2.1191 58.3353 40.23% 27 King, Donald W. 60 D Production 101 0 53.85 1.8756 51.6321 35.61% 28 Laguna, Ray 33 U Production 129 0 68.84 1.8739 51.5853 35.
  21. I especially like the way the guy walked around the truck looking for a spot that wasn't f***ed up.
  22. Dito! Bill does enough for this sport to deserve a "Bad Stage" attitude credit and at 133.18 seconds I'ld call that a bad stage. I just wish I had been on that squad that day so I could have had the laugh along with everyone else.
  23. I don't like the price of gas not dropping even though the amount I'm buying is 10% less. I don't like the price of food going up. But, unlike others, My Nissan Frontier w/ 4.0 ltr. V-6 went from 19 MPG to 22 MPG and, since I drive 87 miles one way to work, I do like that.
  24. OH!!!! I don't think I would try it then..
