  1. That's a fun website, Kevin!
  2. Hi Steve! First off, Welcome! It's really nice to have someone of your experience here on the forum. Shooting since the eighties, and shooting some of the matches you have, you will bring a lot of value to our discussions. We all learn in different ways and at a different pace. I liked your thread title right away. "Hitting a wall". I hit a wall everyday! It's not so much Mastery of shooting that I'm working toward, although that is a very fun manifestation. Rather the fact that it requires, to some degree, a Mastery of me. There are feats that I want to be able to perform, on demand, without even thinking or trying. There are contests that I want to engage in, where I risk enormous failure, but somehow prevail. If it is Mastery you desire, then know that desire shapes lives. That which we set our heart upon, directs our path. The one thing I can guarantee you is this: change is required. If you realize that you have "hit a wall", you are exactly where you need to be. Now, let's pick up our gear again, dust ourselves off, and........ do that one more time. ....this time, really pay attention.
  3. That's a good one Toolguy! If zen could be bottled and consumed, there would soon be laws prohibiting it's possession. (From this day forward:you are not allowed to be in possession of nothing!)
  4. I like the one about sights and target. For me, it means that the order of things is of paramount importance. (as with all in the universe) The front sight is the vehicle that carries me. The connector of all dots. The relationship of my shot to the target is vauge with a target focus. But, using the front sight, the relationship is precise. If I wish to be vauge, I'll see the sights in relation to the target. If I wish to be precise, I'll see the target in relation to the sights. It doesn't matter where the target is, I'll always find a way to hit it. But, it always matters where my muzzel is pointed, without that, I'll probably miss, enen the easy targets
  5. Tizz, the only way I was ever able to change my diet was by changing my mind. I had to change the way I looked at food. Now i see fuel and nothing more or less. The best part is that now, I eat anything I want.
  6. 2011 has been the most difficult year of my life. In so many ways, on so many levels..... There were major tests and significant trials everwhere. It was hard with family, friends, legal matters, and business matters. It really caused me to question many of my long held beliefs. I can remember thinking a several times that we "add our own weight at the gym". Sometimes we add so much that we fail. But, going to failure is the surest way I know to build strength. So, life tests us to failure sometimes too, adding more weight than we would have chosen for ourselves. And the result is strength, endurance, wisdom perhaps..... Outwardly, there were few signs of my struggle. I kept it between me and the Universe. So, it's kinda cool to be able share about it here. Composure is always good. Especially good, in times of pressure. As 2011 draws to a close I'm feeling the burn. That good....tired.... I probably did too much...I'm really gonna be sore tomorrow..... feeling that follows. The really interesting thing is, I've got this feeling that life was preparing me for something..... Maybe 2012 brings more weight, or maybe a rest, I don't know or care. I'm ready.
  7. I feel your pain, SS+P! I've had similar problems loading 25-06 in a progressive press. The neck is so small, relative to the powder charge that it takes quite a while for the entire charge to "drain" into the case. Even then, some of my favorite powders, like H4831"bridge" in the case neck. You could try H4831SC for some improvement. And wipe all the case lube out of the inside of the neck. My best solution was to switch to a ball powder like WW-760, which meters much more smoothly and slow down the process to give time for the big charge to drop. -Sam
  8. Donovan....is sure hope that "Nice" from your right brain
  9. -21 degrees f, according to my practice log. The trick is to keep your head and neck covered really well. For some reason, your hands don't get cold very fast, if everything else is warm. If you are at home, save the brass picking until spring thaw. Yes, I have gun oil that works at -21 degrees. (Maybe this winter it will get cold, so I can report from -35.)
  10. Hi, G-tech! The biggest single attitude that helped me shape up was the realization that I needed to change the way I looked at FOOD! FOOD IS FUEL! I don't like food because of the way it tastes, I like food for it's quality. If I'm consuming a lot of useless calories, I'm going to need a bigger gas tank. (around my middle) Now, I would rather eat broccoli, which I used to avoid, than pie, which i used to love. It's amazing how little I can eat now, and still not get hungry. If you go around hungry all the time, it is simply because your body is not getting what it needs from the present filling station. Keep experimenting until you find the right mileage mix. But, it all starts with the realization that food is fuel.
  11. WOW! I found that video to be very profound. We do live in a very materialistic age, but whatever joy we find, isn't from material possessions. This points to the concept of separateness/oneness. On the level of our physical bodies, we are contained in separate "cans". If one eats and the other does not eat, the non-eater dies. So, the two compete until one dies. But eventually, both die anyway. On the other side of the page, we are all interconnected at the level of being human. The one thing that we all share, is that physically, we all die. Is there a universal mind, then? I'm thinking yes. But, the left side of my brain doesn't understand this. So now, Lefty is pissed and plotting to do evil to the right side. HMMMMM....
  12. Guys who do stuff like that are amazing! The patience, the precision........
  13. Man, that's breathtaking! Thanks for posting the link! I can hardly wait for the next flare-up of Solar activity so I can see the Northern Lights again. BTW, Didja see my muzzle flash in the part where it was flying over the Rocky Mts? It was the little orange blip in the expanse of green.

  17. Let's make it Sunday at the range, then....
  18. Because I like this subject so much, I'll elaborate. Tricksters and illusionists popularized the phrase that the "hand is quicker than the eye". This is totally FALSE. Seeing is continuous. Think of your eye as a surveillance camera that captures everything. It's your mind that shuts down, not your vision. It believes that it cannot see so fast. The truth is, you can pay attention to the slide, the target, the sights, the brass leaving the ejection port, any thing you want. But, your eye is seeing it all! Your brain may not be processing it, but it is there and your eye is seeing it. Experiment with where your attention goes.
  19. From time to time, somebody tells me that I must be "shooting to fast to actually see" the sights. There are a ton of good discussions about this topic on the forum. I'm glad to see it surface again. The hand is not quicker than the eye.
