Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I will see if I can find any. Cabelas didn't have them in Oregon Trail last time I was in but they also cary Ranier although I haven't bought any since I have seen on here where lots of people don't like them. They also cary Berrys but they are higher. When I find the rght bullet I will order a bunch of them. The clays load did feel a lot softer than the other loads, plesant to shoot.
  2. Back when I just had one 45 (5"Springfield)I was shooting the Berrys 185 SWC & the 200 HP and thought they shot pretty well. Then I tried the Lazercast 200SWC and they shot even better. Then I got my little 3 1/2" Custom gun and it wouldn't chamber the 200SWC although it will the Berrys 185. Now we have added a Kimber pro cary II and a Taurus 24/7. I was hoping to find a less expensive lead bullet that they all liked. Haven't gave up yet they all shot the RNFP but acuracy was terrible. Maybe it is this brand of bullets although they look exactly like Lazercast. I did see this on Penn Bullets website he was refering to the 200swc. " Developed to be a superb feeding bullet in .45 ACP. the longer nose with its Ogival contact point duplicating Hardball is superior over the short stubby SWC styles that were available at that time which were prone to jamming on a regular basis. When set to an O.A.L. (overall length of the loaded cartridge) of 1.25 inches and a taper crimp at .469 (measured right at the case mouth) this will prove to be optimal in 99% of the .45s out there for reliable feeding. Most feed problems associated with SWC styled bullets can usually be traced to something other than the bullet style. On the rare occasion that that you cannot get this bullet to run I offer 2 other 200 grain bullets that will meet your needs. One is the 200 grain Round Nose Flat Point that feeds exactly like Hardball but its accuracy is less than the H&G68 in auto pistols and the other is our newest, the 200 grain Truncated Cone Plain Base that is very feed reliable and is turning in accuracy that is on par (with some saying its even better) than the famed H&G68" I have some ordered but don't know when to expect them.
  3. Well that sucked. I loaded 300 200g rnfp bullets from The Bulletworks in Breckenridge TX with clays, power pistol, WSF & tightgroup. We fired them out of 4 pistols and they all sucked out of every gun. The best group I got was about 2"@ 25 yds with 4.2G Clays shot from my Springfield loaded and I couldn't reproduce that. Most groups we shot were about 5" some worse. I am loading on a Dillon 550 with Lee dies but not using the FCD. I crimped them on my rcbs using the Lee seating die. Crimps were kept at 470. I am thinking that this isn't a very acurate bullet out of a 45 acp. I tried them because it looked like they would feed well in all of our guns. That they did. I guess we will try a different bullet and see if that improves things. I have some 200g trunicated cone and some 200 swc ordered but won't get them for a while. Our local Cabellas only had 230g rn Lazercast in stock last time I was there maybe I should try them. Am I missing something or is this just not a good 45acp bullet?
  4. Wow now there is some info that I would have never found anywhere else, this fourm is a great resource.

  6. I haven't seen either of those but did stumble on to a pound of regular clays today. I am going to try it and some tightgroup that I already have. I also have a pound of international clays but don't have any data for it.
  7. Finally figured out what the problem is. I tried the 200 swc bullets again and the first one I chambered wouldn't go into battery. I also couldn't get the slide to open to eject it. After struggleing with it for a while I finally jerked the slide open. The bullet had rifeling marks on the small area of exposed lead just past the crimp. I don't know if I can seat them enough deeper to make them work and still have anything to crimp on or not. I am presently out of them but will probably buy some more since my other guns shoot them so well.
  8. If you are talking USPSA major loads, there are better powders for 45. Just as cheap and shoot a lot softer. Not thinking of USPCA. So far my boys & I just target shoot. We are thinking of making some steel targets but right now we just poke holes in paper, We do cary the same guns and like to shoot loads that at least feel close to self defence ammo. One problem we have is we have 4 different 45's and are looking for a load/bullet combo that shoots well in all of them. Two don't function well with light loads, one will shoot anything and one has a very short leade and won't chamber if the full diameter of the bullet sticks out much past the end of the case. If I seat 200G LSWC like everyone else does they will touch the rifeling and the slide wont go into battery. I am trying some 200 rnfp bullets right now and it looks like they will wotk but haven't shot any yet. A lot of the powdere you guys use are very hard to find here. I can usually get Power Pistol, HS6, Universal Clays, International Clays, WSF, Unique, Bullseye, Tightgroup and sometimes a few more but really never can count on finding any of them on the shelf. I have never seen regular clays and rarely see any of the V powders.
  9. I haven't seen it mentioned on any of the posts here. Does it just not work in the 45acp or is there another reason I don't see anything about it?
  10. Something no one has mentioned. Right now there is factory ammo available but when obama took over there was a while that ammo was real hard to find. Componets were scarce too but if you had some stocked up you could still shoot. That could happen again.
  11. I usually buy once fired cases and always have some that are pretty bent up. I found that running them in the sizing die first messes up the case mouth sometimes. I just set them aside and when I don't have any powder in the hopper I put them through the expander die. Then I resize and expand them as usual and rarely ruin a case. I am fortunate that none of my guns dammage the brass but some guns really mess em up.
  12. Thanks for the replies, I feel better now. I am going to try it with two springs and a load that is easy to see how much is in the case. I have found that when I load 38 spc. its hard to see the powder in that tall skinny case. I'll switch this one over to my 45 setup.
  13. I have two pistols chambered for 45acp. One is a out of the box Springfield loaded and it feeds about everything and shoots especially well with the 200 swc's. I have another 45 built with a Caspian frame and 3 1/2 slide & barrel. It will feed the 200's but most of the time the slide wont go into battery. Sometimes a tap will finish chambering it but not always. I can take the barrel out and use it for a guage and they all drop in fine. They also fit in a Dillon gauge. I have used 200 grain Berrys HP and they are the same diameter with no problems in it. Same with 185 Berrys SWC, factory ball no problem. I would like to shoot the same bullets in both guns, should I just find something else that they both like or keep trying to figure out why they wont chamber right? I am about out of bullets and will need to order something before long.
  14. I bought a used powder measure sight unseen and upon receiving it found a problem. It has no place to hook up the failsafe rod. Other than that is seems to all be there and in good shape. I guess I should have bought a new one from Brian but I am probably stuck with this one now. Is it upgradeable? Safe to use like it is? I am kind of new to Dillon products and didn't know there were some that didn't use the failsafe rod. Thanks in advance.
