Why so worried about a little play in the reciever?

It all depends on what you need. The ARMY has been using a semi-auto with great success. In a situation with multiple targets at less than 600 yards, the semi-auto is king. But if you want to shoot 1-hole groups at 300 or reach WAY out and touch something, go with a bolt. Either is plenty accurate for most peoples use but a bolt gun would probably be cheaper.

If it is a DPMS, it has a rifle length gas system. The front sight is the gas system.

I would suggest a different option. The hot rod handguard is really heavy versus a standard vented one and the gas tube is exposed the length of the handguard

A few of us at work just picked up a couple CMMG kits. So far they seem to be the ticket. Shot 100 rounds on my lunch break and works perfect! They get my vote!
