The type of process for the coating is important if you want the coating to cover the inside of the barrel. If you are looking at things like TiN or DLC, CVD coatings can be done that will coat the inside of the barrel to get the benefit to the harder, slicker and wear resistant surface that contacts the bullet. PVD coatings are typically line of site coating methods and will only cover the exterior of the barrel.

I have had a 26" SX3 (wood stock which I think is lighter than the plastic) for a number of years now that I set up for 3 gun. It is nice and light and shoots great. Got the carrier welded, did a light port job myself, had to cut the hand guard back some from the loading port, added a Nordic tube. It runs pretty reliably. The stock trigger is reasonable. I did have the carrier spring get weak on me which cause some hang ups. It has worked great since I replaced it. The piston it came with has worked great for all loads I have used and I bought a backup sporting clays piston back when you could still get them from Winchester just in case the one I have ever has the spring break. I have some issues with the poi/poa for slugs with the vent rib barrel but have yet to add a sight or try to bend the barrel. I liked how the SX3 felt and pointed much better than the SLP. There are so many other options now that I doubt I would get another one for 3 gun, but in general it has been a decent platform for me.

I use 4.6 gr of Clays at 1.215" to get right around 170pf in my 5.4 SVI with Hornady HAP 180gr bullets and 4.4 gr at the same length with 180gr BBI bullets (with groove) for about the same pf

I wanted to bump this to see if anyone out there is loading 357 mag with WSF powder.

I have been using the Taylor Freelance and I have one Arredondo. I prefer the TF base pads of the two. They are easier to reload and the extra weight is nice being made of aluminum instead of plastic. Also, I will only use the Arredondo in a match if I start with it in the gun as it fits kind of tight to the bottom of the grip. If I don't seat the mag really well it won't lock into place. The Taran Tactical extensions look great and on my list of things to try out. I have heard good things about them, but never used them. I will pass on the Arredondo unit to for a fair price if you want to try it out (pm me if you like). It will give me a reason to replace it with a TTI unit to try out.

Thank you for letting me know. A little while ago a member of the forum did some testing with their piston to make a heavy piston lighter by threading the insert at the bottom of the piston deeper into the piston providing more spring tension. If you compare a light and heavy piston, the only difference is how tall/thick the threaded spacer at the bottom of the piston is. See the link for more info http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137187 You maybe able to modify what you have to work the way you want it to without the need of a new or sealed piston. The piston that came with my SX3 (later 2000's model I think) has a black spacer ring, but it has run everything I have fed it including some pretty light loads. I got one of the light sporting clays pistons last year to have as a backup in case my current one ever craps out and it has a red spacer ring that is thicker/taller. I got a rough measurement of .275" on the thickness of the black spacer in the stock piston and .360" on the red one in the sporting clay piston.

The more I am shooting matches with my TA-11 the more I am loving it and feel less and less need to try out the latest 1-6x or 8x scopes that many are running.

I still use a TA-11 and have never felt at a disadvantage enough to change anything. I don't have to worry about what power to set it to for a particular stage or changing the power mid stage. I have shot it out to 500 yards without too much trouble and with a little practice got to where I don't feel slowed down on close up stuff. The glass and illumination are good and ACOGs are as rugged as they come. One of these days I will try out a variable scope just to verify if I am missing out on anything or not.

I really like the balance of a bushing barrel 5.4 with a short dust cover compared to most 6" and 5" setups I have handled. I have not shot a 5.4 sight tracker yet, so I can't comment on those.
