  1. So some of the energy is "used" moving the slide and compressing the spring? So for my purposes a full profile slide like a 2011 is to my advantage. Also the recoil master will distribute the peak energy over a longer period I assume. I think my goal is to reach the smallest peak in recoil energy. Is this comparable to shocks on a car?
  2. How does weight affect recoil? I need, due to physical issues, a handgun that transfers the least possible amount of recoil to my hands. How is it different to my hand for a 34 oz gun in recoil from a minor 9mm, compared to a 44 oz gun? I know they feel different, but is the physical affect different? Am I actually receiving less energy? I am looking for facts rather than perceptions.
  3. I lied, one more entry before next week. I had to qualify a guy at work today and took my 9mm spartan to shoot to gauge recoil. I got it as a Christmas gift from my wife and had dropped in new trigger parts and a magwell. I shot it weak hand and the recoil is soft as butter. A 2011 in 9 may be the future to me.
  4. I think you are talking about me, but I don't think we are related.
  5. Going to be interesting. Planning a doorstop heavy 9mm 2011 to help keep the recoil impulse low. Minor limited, wow. At least my kid has had the grace not to ask if I will be using those .40 limited and SS guns.
  6. Once a week updates after this, but I'm started (with the kid). Day 1 partial A series: 20 hands at sides 20 surrender Clock drill turning Clock drill stepping No: pick up, barricade multi position Brutal. I had to slow down and find the gun. It's good I am using a DOH rather than a Ghost. Lots of bobbles and bad grips. No second hand on the gun equals slow good sight picture, for now. Treadmill 2.5 miles
  7. I'm a 51 yer old limited GM. I spent years as a master and finally in October of 2012 I slipped into GM. I have had some tendinitis over the years and lately it has been pretty bad in my right wrist. I got a couple of cortisone shots and it was better but I still had some pain. I iced twice a day, didn't shoot for four months and still had pain. My doc sent me to a hand guy who tells me I have a scahpolunate interosseous ligament tear and that reconstruction is possible and works about 70% of the time. Six months very limited use to recover. The injury apparently occurred over 2 1/2 years ago with a power drill. I thought about taking the year off but I have a B class 16 year old who wants to shoot. His idea, shoot weak hand. Today I got a left hand DOH Bladetech in the mail from Shooters Connection. Back to my Seeklander drills and to the weights for the left hand and core. It is Montana so live fire will be limited for a while. I will track the dry fire and workouts. My goal? Finish above 50% at area 1. I may game it and build a wide body 9mm to protect my left hand and reduce my reloads. My hope is to return to shooting with both hands by nationals but I will protect the repair. At the worst there will be good "watch this" video. The best, my son will see me work.
  8. I will take Sarge's advise and loose some wait. Sorry Sarge, I will drop some yellow fat, and will work to truly embrace weak hand shooting.
  9. Mine is usually a little too much one way or the other. Some of my mainspring housings have "high mileage" going off then back on from adjusting springs.
  10. Mark, 15k on a single stack for next year. That can be quite a few rounds for stock parts that may require a good deal of gunsmith time/money to make it light and crisp. A trigger that is great makes a big difference on paper or a mini popper at 15 yards and every extra shot, or extra time spent manipulating the trigger on a target like that bounces you down the results. I can throw in a prepped kit and work it a little and get the trigger I want. Brazos is $150 well spent for me. If you are going to shoot a few hundred rounds a month and a match or two, then it won't make the same difference. Can nils take a gun off the shelf and win a local match? you bet, but he doesnt do that. Today's meager B class shooter is often tomorrow's M or GM.
  11. If you are going to shoot it hard, like most do in USPSA, just dump the internals and go with a good kit. I did this with my .40 Trojan and 9mm Spartan. If you like the feel of a limited gun you might consider Barnhart thick grips. Both guns seemed well put together.
  12. Lawman makes major easily in my 5" guns. It runs in both 2011's and a .40 single stack.
  13. A very well timed thread for me. I am going to shoot 9mm single stack this spring through area 1 as I am trying to protect a wrist with some tendinitis. The 9 SS should be the softest shooting gun in USPSA. I plan to call shooters connection in the morning and order a Spartan. I bought a Trojan .40 and love it, so with money being important I will try the Spartan. I have all quality internals sitting in my shop (except a safety). Brazos trigger group, SV trigger bow, Dawson magwell. All I need is some grips as thick as the old burner grips. I move the one set I have around to my .40 and .45.
  14. I have a wifi set up that is 5 years old and it is starting to get a little inconsistent. I am thinking about replacing it and want some advice. I have a PC that I don't use much and half a dozen "I" devices that we do use all the time. I have cable Internet that is pretty good (20 plus down, 4 or 5 up wired). I am looking for good speed, security, ease of set up. I don't need a huge footprint as I live on a half an acre. What say?
  15. Spray silicon cleans off the follower and the inside of the mag. Works awsome.
  16. He'll, I don't even sell it, I just put it somewhere.......that I can't find. Hello, Brownelles.
  17. I have seen a barrel nut work loose and drive a friend close to the edge. It is a bit of a PITA but might solve the problem.
  18. I have five and have for six months. Just not enough to run it next year in production. Not payin $99 and can't seem to get past the horders. Looks like a platform change is in my future if I want to shoot production.
  19. They will never work in the heat, better send them to me in Montana.
  20. I have been carrying a S&W Airlight .38 special in my pocket for years as any larger gun would print or wobble even on a good belt. Due to my work I always carry off duty, and felt like a fraud telling students that 9mm was the absolute minimum. I recently picked up a G27 and someone recommended a Bianchi Allusion to carry it. I ordered one and it is great set up. It is kydex surrounded by leather and completly supports the gun and can be worn inside or outside the pants. It sucks the gun up tight to my spare tire. After comparing my wife's G23 and my G27 with the plus 1 (so you can grip it), they are pretty close in size and I might have gone that direction, but at least I am carrying something I have more confidence in. The best part was it was under $60.
  21. I have been working to avoid the rush to .260 Remington in my .308 AR and was trying to figure out the barrel twist in my Amalite when I came across Technical Note 110 on the Technical Notes page at Armalite's site that discusses what factors are involved in stabilizing a bullet. This was new to me. I thought others might be interested. Take a look.
  22. I recently had to switcth powder for my sons 9mm due to availability issues, n350 to WSt. My trusty 550, which I use for every thing but .40, began throwing irregular loads of up to two grains difference. I stripped down my powder system and found nothing. I called Dillon and the nice man walked me through the whole system to no avail. I decide to tear it down again and find nothing until I turn the powder system over and what do I find in the barrel? A packing peanut. I have no idea how but am very glad to have regular throws. Also WST is working well in 9 even though they don't recommend it.
  23. I have a pair of binoculars from them and the glass is quite good.
