I shoot what you would call a heavy .40 set up, full profile (with cuts), bull barrel and so on, but my single stack .45 is about as light as you can go with out cutting on the slide and frame. The biggest difference in recoil seems to come with choice of bullet. If you can stand the smoke, the .5 grain less you use of powder for lead bullets make the .45 shoot about as soft as the .40. In the rush to use jacketed bullets you really pick up some additional recoil. I like to shorten the stroke with a really wide shock buff and use a 14 lb spring and my inexpensive SA shoots as well as I can. Also adding a set of wide "burner" grips helps me control the recoil. I do admit to looking long and hard at a SS .40, but sooo many other toys.
  2. Can you put a SV trigger bow in a Para P16 limited gun? Before I tear it down and find out, I just thought I would ask. Thanks. Nate
  3. Ok for the warm end. As far as up north in Montana (it sucks up here DON"T MOVE UP), I use #2 in my SV and it is fine down to 20 F or so, but my SA single will start to slow down about 30 F. I put the Slide glide in my 1100 and it works great there too. Nate
  4. This is interesting. I like the JP front (.030) as you can actually see steel at 200 yards. .050 covers it up completely. The Armilite front fixture works very well. As for the rear sight, be cautious of using too small of an apature. If you don't have the perfect light targets can fade (for lack of a better word) and targets in the shade on a cloudy day (area 1 three gun last year!) are just gone.
  5. When you go to Bend bring a mag brush and cleaning supplies for your guns. It has some really fine sand that, when the wind blows, gets into EVERYTHING. I think I will stay and shoot the three gun after the Area match. Shot it last year and it was a nice match. I wore shorts the first day and after standing under a cover for an hour in the pouring rain had to try and reload shotgun. I could see em in my hand but couldn't feel em. The Cimmeron motel is inexpensive ( if not the Hilton). Hope to see you there. Nate
  6. Thanks Warpspeed. I would like to shoot the 185's, but my lead load is very soft. I will try the minimum load and see what the chrono says. I got to master shooting 200 grain lswc and then moved to .40, but my .45 is calling me this winter so I will go back and shoot it a bit more.
  7. In Montana we have a stock reply to: "how far away is ________"? The answer...... about two hours. From Missoula to Big Fork, two hours, from Missoula to Butte, two hours, from Missoula to Fernan, two hours, from Missoula to Bozeman, (oh yea) three hours. It is a beautiful state and even thought we look up to Mississippi in income, a great place to live. They finally put a speed limit on the highways or you could cut a serious amount of time off the travel.
  8. I would like to try the MG 185 JHP's (.45) and like N320. Any suggestions on oal and load weight to make major power factor?
  9. I don't know if the "Remington tactical" is the same as the Remington Low Recoil LE slugs but I have had great luck with them. They are not restricted like the Winchester LE slugs and don't beat you to death. I payed about $13 for a a boxes of 25 last time. Nate
