  1. Damn that's some perk. Guessing the free brass isn't the reason she's an 'X'
  2. TSO dust cover is too long for the CM barrel & Comp.
  3. Thanks Sarge, I wasn't aware of that and will add SC springs to my shopping list.
  4. Speaking of springs, I'm looking to perform some testing over the winter break and wanted to see who has the best pricing on springs, considering shipping also. I typically see recoil springs priced at $6-8, however with shipping at $10-15 I'd need to buy quite a few springs to make the purchase seem worth while.
  5. Another wet tumbler here. Squirt of car wax after cleaning with detergent makes cases run through my 650 without lube or extra effort. I dry the cases for a day or 3 (depending on relative humidity) before dumping them in my 'clean brass' bin. I plan ahead, so normally have several thousand clean cases ready to load at any point in time.
  6. Following this thread as I have the factory CM racker, while functional it could stand to be improved.
  7. I'm not experienced enough to tell you where the problem is, however I'd suggest you take note of what @IDescribe recommends. At the very least, confirm they are not applicable to your situation.
  8. So I'm confused (don't worry, wouldn't be the first time) is the issue OAL or diameter? I'm seeing comments related to both and not sure which is actually the problem.
  9. @redpillregret why would one think that a case fired from pistol A, would fit into the barrel of pistol B? Not trying to be a jerk, however this logic eludes me as barrel tolerances and regulated enough for one to make this comparison.
  10. Recent USPSA article provided details of top 9mm major powders, pistols, brass, etc. shot during the 2018 nationals. https://uspsa.org/magazine/view//2019-00#page=34 Interesting thing I saw was the top powder (by percentage) was VV 3N38. If you added the two VV powders (3N38 & 3N37) they almost doubled (not quite) the next runner-up, WAC. Kinda disappointed to see that AA#7 and Shooters World Major didn't make the top of the list.
  11. I noticed an increase of ~20FPS when chrono'ing on a cold day (35*) versus warmed (50*) day. This could also be variability in chrono and/or charge weight. It's so minor that I'm not going to worry about it
  12. I don't ave an EGW case gauge, however if it's designed like most straight wall pistol gauges, that 'groove' you're seeing is used to headspace the round. The 'groove' catches the lip of the case (be it a case gauge or barrel) and prevents the cartridge from seating any deeper. When a round doesn't plunk/spin it's most likely because the projectile (bullet) is hitting the rifling of the barrel before the lip of the case hits the ridge in the barrel. Having said all of that, the reason it's recommended to perform the plunk/spin test using the barrel of the pistol in question, is because case gauges are not designed to tell the user if the round is too long for the pistol it's being shot in.
  13. The TS and CM frames are essentially the same. The length and cut/geometry of the dust cover is visually the only difference. So I'd say yes, no reason a TSO frame could not shoot 9mm major. The CMs were known to break barrel lugs early on, I'd say that would be the weak point if the threaded CZC barrel for some reason did not have the improved lug design. I haven't seen one of the new threaded 9mm barrels so can only assume that CZC would be using the latest design.

    TSO

TSOs have been on the market for several years. The newer (late 2018) models are the ones that RAB is cautioning about keeping an eye/loctite the trigger screws. TS/TSO are well recognized for being competition ready to shoot out of the box. No tweaking required on the mechanicals of the gun to make it run. Most shooters change of small components for personal preference.
  15. That's a relatively cheap way to dip your toes into open. Hopefully the PO tuned the pistol and provided the recipe for ammo.
  16. I use the Frankford rotary tumbler minus the pins. Cleans the outside well enough for my liking. Squirt of dawn + one .45 ACP case of lemishine for 45-60 min Rinse and then add synthetic liquid car wax, tumble for 15 min, drain (don't rinse) and spread out on a towel to dry.
  17. Because of the crazy temperature swings here lately, I was able to chrono the same loads at 34*F and 52*F. WAC, #7 and SW major were all within the SD of error when comparing loads shot on the colder day to ones from the warmer day. Granted it was only ~15* difference.
  18. I consider the various press upgrades as incremental improvements. Now to Vibraprime, that's a leap forward considering the alternative of hunt/peck
  19. Taxi, tell us again how you feel about PDs For the record, I like them for open also.
  20. Haven't gotten that far yet Once I get the load dialed in to a safe (168-172'ish) PF range, I test for accuracy and function, using several different projectiles. After I've narrowed it down to 1 or 2 projectiles and powders, I'll load a few hundred of each and test for feel, dot bounce, etc. It takes a little bit of time, however leaves me assured that I've tested the most relevant combinations and have identified which works best for me and my pistol. In general #7 and the lovex are similar in feel and powder charge. WAC obviously requires less powder, however I haven't shot WAC back-to-back with either the #7 or lovex to see if one has a better feel than the other. I've got a few months to sort through all of this before shooting season starts back up again here in PA.
  21. I use all 3 brands (RCBS, DIllon and Lee) in 9mm, normally without issue, however I don't prefer the dillon for 147s, as the narrower case sometimes scrapes the coating off the bullet as it is being seated. Only issue that I run into from time to time is brass that is bulging near the rim. The sizing dies will end up squeezing the brass and leaving a ridge near the bottom of the case. I suspect these 9mms were fired from a machine gun or other open bolt type gun; however just shear speculation on my end. I don't run across enough of these to try and figure out a solution, I just inspect and toss them in the trash.
  22. @dazhi I'm kinda surprised that you had to buy the replacement primer parts for the 650. Most stories I've read, indicate that dillon sends these out with no charge, even though by rights,it was not the fault of the machine, that caused the primer explosion
  23. I'm on the 'it's the sizing die' side of the fence, especially if the cases are not fitting the gauge after sizing and before adding a projectile. Dillon dies will size slightly narrower (overall diameter) which results in a distinctive 'coke bottle' effect (they function fine, just look a little different), however they are tapered and won't size as far down the case as a Lee die. If the sized brass fits the gauge and only after adding the projectile is there an issue, then I'd be looking at OAL and crimp. Definitely OAL first, considering this is a 147, as the ogive may be hitting the rifling before the case bottoms out.
  24. I'm testing Shooters World and #7 for my czechmate. Here's the results I've gotten so far, using both RMR and PD 124s.
