  1. Since the magazines are generally shorter, the OAL is going to be an issue if you load long. My SVI's feed factory ammo, so it might be easier to adjust that OAL.
  2. BUT... Once they let the striker fired Glock in (NOT a DA), keeping other striker fired guns (like the XD) would make even less sense. Stirker fired guns can be made almost as nice as SA guns. I think that action (SA versus DA) is antiquated thinking and not a very good basis for category divisions. I know folks want to keep 1911's out of production but it doesn't even really make any sense to me when you can get great 1911's at the same price point. But what do I know, I think progress is a good thing, and that seems runs against a lot of the thinking that runs USPSA.
  3. Some of the stock barrels are pretty good, I like using the Barsto's myself. Are they $200 better? Well that depends on how you value money versus performance. Is a high end race gun 3-5 times better than a semi stock gun? I know that curve isn't linear.
  4. I was just going to agree with you 100%. Then you had to go and say that! You won't shoot IDPA because of the silly rules?
  5. Like Glocks, M&P and XD's? Times are a changing, DA is giving way to striker fired guns, so what do you do? I never understood why there is a bias against SA (or striker fired) guns myself. I think the trigger pull would have been a real headache and not sure what problem it would have solved. As far as a "arms race" with light triggers, I just don't see it. I do a lot of trigger jobs, and MOST of the folks don't shoot them in competition, they just want better guns. To me, Production is much more about "how" you shoot, than "what" you shoot. I can't imagine quiting a sport because the modify or changing rules, but then again, I just love to shoot. I'll voice my opinion and back up my thoughts, but I'll shoot whatever the rules may be, for as long as I can. Heck, I will even shoot and IDPA, regardless of how silly I think some of the rules are.
  6. Interesting, as I was going over this in this mornings practice. I shoot a LOT of different guns every week, as I test fire every gun that leave the shop. Under certain distances, I can "fist fire" just fine, pretty dang accurately also. My own personal conclusion is simple, when I don't use the sights, my mind wanders and it ends up being slower. When I use my eyes to direct my action and lead me through a drill, the times are quicker and I know where the hits are (good or bad) because I shoot with more purpose. I agree with D.R. in that you should test things for yourself, so that you can really learn. I've shot bunches of sightless XD's using the loaded chamber indicator as a reference and it work suprisingly well. Would I have thought that without trying it, probably not. To learn you must fail, the more you fail, the more you can learn. That is why I think that there are some talented folks who never go far in shooting, because they are afraid to fail. When you are no longer afraid to fail, you open yourself up to learning, and progress. It is easy to ridicule someone who is on another path, especially when you have followers who don't get what the path really is about. Most folks don't want to put the effort in to really understand the essence of things, so they just parrot someone they see as "great." Letting the "fools" get in the way of your progress doesn't really help you much in your own journey. If I can draw the gun 4 ways (which I can) about the same speed and as reliably, which is better? Hmmm. Technique is only part of any action, and not an end in itself.
  7. Rodger has a great product, and has been great to deal with!!! I got my 9mm conversion, and switching it over is very, every simple. I can't imagine not having one.
  8. Well put. I am going to try and remember this. It sort of goes back to the saying, "smooth is fast". So you think I should just think about what I am doing in a smooth relaxed state. There is no way my body will be able to keep up with my brain. If this is what you are saying, it makes good sense. TG Yep, you got it.
  9. The feeling of speed comes from the presence of "chaos." If you can process the infomation that is being given to you it should not feel fast.
  10. Now that is an awesome attitude to have. Self limiting thinking ROCKS!!!
  11. I was once told (I think in RO school) that it was put into place because if you have mechanical failure, you may never have a chance to shoot the target, but that could be an urban legand.
  12. Thanks for all the kind words. You definitely need to either change out the roll pin or inspect it often if you are a heavy user. There have been some issues with the locking blocks in the pre-radiused models, but I haven't run into any with the radiused ones. I'm a big fan of Barsto's barrels for match guns, but the stock ones I've had personally are good enough for most folks. We also decided to invest in the trigger bars, because alothough it isn't often, we've seen them break. As we accumulate take-off trigger bars we will be making them available for folks who want a spare and can't afford the barstock one. I think the XD is a very good design, and with some of the new things on the horizon, they will be making a bigger impact in the competition arena. We try the best we can to help our customers and have invested in being able to respond to their needs. If the factory can't get it done in a timely, we will. I will say the the SA custom shop has been very helpful in helping us meet the needs of our customers. I have enjoyed working with them. They have definitely went out of their way to help some of our customers who had urgent needs. I was a a Glock match where 8 of the 14 shooters in our squad had them malfunction, so I'm not sure I would say the Glocks in general are any sturdier than the XD. I do hope you get it running again and give it another go
  13. You might want to do a search, there is a ton of info on this. But instead of just saying use the search function, here you go. Spartan Article The frame, barrel and slide are Armscor. The small parts are STI. I had a bunch of them come through the shop and they have been very consistant in their fit and finish.
  14. Thanks, I've had this in my brain for awhile, nice to get it done, and it is a shooter. Top view and mag well detail (Techwear's new magwell)
  15. It is getting warm in this thread...
  16. I've installed a few for competition shooters. I've also removed them and installed conventional sights for the same shooters. They are some very funadamental things about shooting and "seeing" at high speeds that the designer of this sight doesn't understand, at all IMO.
  17. +1. The gap has to be there so that most mags will seat. Mine doesn't look that big, and reloading it is like reloading a widebody. The Alumagrips are thin, almost too thin for me. I prefer to build up my SS grips to fit my hands, but the magwell is a homerun for me.
  18. 2. It is a pretty sweet set-up, I had an 9 year old in the shop yesterday and with the thin grips he could hold it fine. The well is huge, no preceived disadvantage reloading a skinny gun with the magwell.
  19. IMO, because NO ONE I talked to that shot it could hear the buzzer or see the lights when shooting AND they where giving one procedural per shot fired when it wasn't going off. 10% of the shooters zeroed it on procedurals, that should say enough.
  20. Just bought 10K Federal primers and 6#'s of VV320 at my local Sportsnman's Warehouse... I stop by every few days (1 mile away) and I'll bet the other customers must think that they don't stock Federal small pistol primers or VV 320 either.
