  1. A .40 and 9mm extractor are the same. Least the ones I have seen. The ejector should work with either as both are of the extended type.
  2. I am yet to see a SA 9mm that grouped well. I am yet to see a Kimber 9mm that did not group well. A .45 1911 is just as cheap to feed as a 9mm if you reload. I always figure brass is free for the picking up. A lead 200 gr SWC costs me $26 per thousand. Lead 9mm bullets are less expensive, but shooting lead 9mm or .40 is not very practical in a match. They both smoke a lot more that the .45 does. Plated or jacketed 9mm bullets will cost twice as much as the lead .45 bullets. I have worked on hundreds of 1911s. I am yet to see a SA with a properly fitted barrel. Kimber OTOH has figured out how to lock up the barrel in a mass produced gun. Another Kimber plus is the 9mm and .40 have the same size breech face. Buy a 9mm and fit a .40 barrel. Now you can shoot two different calibers with the same gun. The only thing I don't like about the Kimber is the grip safety. Does not bother most folks. The SA has their funky safety system that must be tossed.
  3. Seems like everyone is trying to jump on the sub $600 1911 bandwagon. There are a number of these bottom feeders. It is true that I have not handled one yet, but the pictures are pretty clear. It would appear that Taurus is the current leader of the <$600 club. There are some things I don't like about the Taurus. Series 80 safety and the old blocky Springfield front strap come to mind. It does offer more features for the money. The grip can be fixed along with the Series 80 safety. I don't see why everyone gets so hung up on how a stock trigger feels. It takes about 30 min. to fix any 1911 trigger. If you can't do that yourself then a gunsmith can for $50. I must be missing something with the current Kimbers. Everyone I have handled was very tightly fitted. They are still the most accurate out of the box 1911 I have seen. At least the 6 I have owned were. My two current Kimbers will group well under 1 1/2" at 25 yds. The .40 will go under 1". What the heck. I may just buy a Spartan to see how it shoots.
  4. I had the same problem with some Scherer mag bodies years ago. Sticking point was the same place as yours. I just got out the sand paper and went to work. Seems like I only had to remove about .010" of material to get them working. Would not hurt to remove the magwell and see if the problem goes away. I remember once about 15 tears ago the company I retired from tried to get me to move to California to run one of their plants there. I just laughed at them. Told them they did not have enough money in their Payroll Dept. to get me to move there.
  5. I have been using Titegroup for years. I am curious as to why some say it is dirty. Titegroup is one of the cleanest powders I have ever used in 9mm and .40. It makes Major in my Glock 35 with 4.3 gr and a 180 gr plated bullet. I have found TG to very accurate in all of my guns.
  6. I just taper size the case until the flare goes away.
  7. Thats funny Doug. I too use the very scientific method of looking at the flare. I use one of those battery powered magnifying glasses. My crimp runs 470"-471".
  8. First of all have you tried another chrono? 4.0 gr easily makes Major in my Kimber. I get 728-734 fps. I do use a 230 gr RN plated bullet at 1.260". Are you getting any pressure signs? I use 4.2 gr with a 200 gr LSWC to make Major. I was able to make major with 4.2 gr of Titegroup and the same 230 bullet.
  9. My buddy JR at Lone Wolf may not like my response, but I have always tried to tell it just like it is. My wife's G34 and my old G34 are very accurate. Both will group well under 1 1/2" at 25 yds. An aftermarket barrel is not going to shoot much better, if any, than that. How much more accurate of a gun do we need to shoot IDPA and IPSC? The targets are huge. The bullet always goes where my front sight is. I don't have any aftermarket barrels in my Glocks. Exception being the two 9mm conversion barrels. Most folks don't spend enough time developing loads to find the most accurate one for THEIR gun. My old G34, my wife's G34 and my G17 are more accurate than I am. I have a pretty standard load of 3.0 gr of Titegroup and a 147 gr plated bullet that just shoots the center out of a 2" Shoot-N-See at 25 yds. I benched the G17 the other day just to see how well it shot. If I still have the target I will post it. I had 4 rounds touching and 1 just a bit out of the group. Bear in mind I change my front sight when I am shooting for groups. I put a .090" front on. Some things are psychological. You may shoot better with a "Match Grade" barrel. Most of that will be between your ears.
  10. There is nothing in the IDPA rule book that prevents you from shooting the gun, with the 9mm barrel, in ESP. Cannot shoot it in SSP. I have shot thousands of rounds through my 9mm conversion barrel without any issues. The only thing I have changed is the mag. I have a Federal and a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel. No problems with either. I do like the LW feed ramp design better. The LWD barrel at $89 is the best buy in an aftermarket barrel without question. Maybe some of the other barrel makers will get their overpriced barrels in line. I have installed dozens of aftermarket barrels and the LWD barrel is just as accurate and is finished just as well as any of them - Bar-Sto, KKM etc.
  11. How many rounds does it hold? It can't get much thinner without the mag getting longer.
  12. Guess I am the odd one here. I started out using a RCBS .40 die set. I would get 10-15 rounds per 100 that would fail the case gage. I purchased a EGW sizing die and a FCD. At that point I was down to 2-3 rounds per 100 that failed. I loaded for a while with just the EGW die and a regular taper crimp die. Adding the FCD made no improvement at all. Bottom line is I now use a regular Lee sizing die and a taper crimp die. I did not like the hourglass look the EGW die gave to the loaded rounds. I get 2-3 per 100 that fail. Handle effort sure is a lot less without the EGW and FCD dies. I see no advantage to using an EGW die and a FCD die.
  13. That is the 3 shot pre-production G40. The one I am testing is the 4 shot production model. Anyone that would send Top Glock money before the gun is even out has lost their mind. Do a search over on Glock Talk about Top Glock.
  14. Nice Photo Shop gun. I am testing the new G40. I have come to the conclusion that 4 rounds of .75 GAP is just not enough. I do like the extendable bayonet. The built in cell phone is nice. When I personally see a slim line/single stack .45ACP Glock then I will believe it.
  15. Try adding some tension to the left "finger" of the leaf spring first.
  16. Alan, you are talking about 140mm .40 mags.
  17. The gun is too heavy for IDPA. That's a shame. I am taking a hard look at the Witness Elite. May just order one next week.
  18. This is starting to get a little confusing. Does the Witness Elite then use the same size mags as the Tactical Sport? I take it that the Elite has a smaller grip than the CZ97B, but larger than the CZ75.
  19. Guess you would get them from EAA? Any other source? Is the Witness on the same size frame as the CZ Champion? I handled one once. The frame seemed a little different than the CZ75 frame. Maybe it was just the grips.
  20. Can I assume that CZ mags will work in this gun?
  21. I may just have to get one of these. $388 plus shipping and tax seems reasonable to me.
  22. I would not have a problem with it either.
  23. Do you recall how heavy the gun was? There are several ways to take out weight. Plug instead of guide rod, plactic MS housing etc. Some where I read a post that a Caspian would make weight.
  24. I am thinking a Caspian widebody in .45ACP might just be the untimate ESP gamer gun. Should come in right at the max weight. If a 200 gr SWC at 650 fps does not give one enough snap just add a little more powder. The slide should certainly be as fast as a 9mm 1911's speed. The large holes will turn several of those -1 and -3 shots into a higher score each match. Hmmm, Audrey I think I know what I want for Christmas
