  1. Get a .45 1911. You can shoot ESP and CDP with it.
  2. Duh!!! Because we all pick cotton here in the South for a living. That's how we get our gun money.
  3. I have no use for the expensive VV powders. There are other powders that perform just as well for about half of what the VV powders cost. I wonder if VV would sell as much powder if it was called Bob's Powder. Probably not sexy enough.
  4. What does the percentage of nitroglycerin have to do with the burn rate discussion? I would think by now most folks know Solo 1000 is a gun cotton based powder. TG is fine for plated or jacketed bullets. Not good for lead or moly - BTDT.
  5. I load all .45 bullets 1.250" - 1.260".
  6. Looks like Clays, TG and Solo are positioned about right with respect to each other. I am way too cheap to use the VV powders. Here's another. http://www.lasc.us/BurnRatePrint.htm
  7. There are several 180 gr 38/357 molds. Just size them down to .356-.357. Powder? I would start with 2.2 gr of Solo 1000. You will need to load the bullets fairly long. 1.150 or more to keep from bulging the case. I hope you have a chrono. Remember all of this is just a WAG. I load 2.7 gr of Solo with a 160 gr bullet. That gets me about 805 fps. Pick a round that has a fairly blunt nose as you want to keep the bullet as short as possible. You may run into tumbling issues. I tried Clays with the 160 gr bullet - half the bullets tumbled. BTW don't call me if you blow your gun up.
  8. I think the Master badge should be black. That way it will match my Ninja outfit when I am at the mall.
  9. I don't load aluminum Blazer and Berdan primed brass. Everything else I love. I will be happy to take all of the other brass you don't want.
  10. Yes they are. I posted their phone number a while back.
  11. 147s are a little light for me. I currently use 160s. Looking for some 180 - 200 gr bullets. BTW I still get a chuckle when I hear folks say they are waiting on the slide.
  12. Billy Bullets are too high. They are a good bit higher than Bear Creek.
  13. 2.7 gr of Solo 1000 with a 160 Bear Creek RN. OAL is 1.135". 128-130PF. It is a real wrist breaker. I am now looking for a 180 gr RN. The 160 gr load is almost as soft as my 180 gr .40 load.
  14. At least he responded when I yelled muzzle - unlike the guy at the 2007 Georgia match. I actually saw sunshine through the barrel of his 1911. Why is it that most LEOs feel a need to twist their gun to the side when they reload? BTW I see you almost beat Randy with that "Gamer Gun" of yours. You should be ashamed of yourself shooting a manly .45 at 625.1 fps. I thought the IDPA rule book mentions something about "full power" loads.
  15. The biggest issue is the transplanted Yankee. OTOH you must be fairly smart as you left the frozen North. For some reason I am a new shooter magnet. They all tend to wind up in my squad. I had two yesterday. I think I need to start wearing my BP vest. I generally go a little easy on them as far as Procedurals go. One shooter would have had 6 or 7 if I had been strict. Most were cover violations. I did not want to totally discourage him to the point of never showing up again. I would walk him through his mistakes while the targets were being pasted. He got the last three stages correct. He will be back. I have seen some of the "Range Nazi" SOs run new shooters off. I did ding him with two "pie slicing" Procedurals and one for dropping a mag with rounds in it. One issue you don't get a second chance with is safety.
  16. I actually like the extra length the S&A gives. Better leverage when fighting recoil.
  17. Eric, I use walnut to polish. No problems with media stuck in case. Trim???? What is that? I very rarely trim cases. One would be surprised at how forgiving an AR chamber is. Don't forget a rifle case head spaces on the shoulder not the case mouth. I have fired cases 1.770" without any issues. I use a simple deburring bit chucked up in a drill press to remove a crimp. Just turn the press on and stick the case against the bit. Takes about 2 seconds to remove the crimp.
  18. There are better guns for way less money = Les Baer PII.
  19. Or you could just get a 9mm Kimber and fit a .40 barrel to it. Now you have both.
  20. Joe D

    AA 2230-S?

24.0 gr with a 55 gr FMJ Hornady is one of my favorite loads out of a 16" barrel AR. My AR just stacks bullets on top of each other with this load.
  21. I tried some 200 gr for minor and could not tell much difference. The 180 gr works for me.
  22. Won't hurt a thing. I made my own extended steel GRs. They are the same length as the G34/35 barrel.
  23. I get my scores either the same day or next. For those that complain about having to wait too long here is a suggestion. Hold you hand up and volunteer to do the scores yourself. Running a match, setting up and tearing down stages, collecting the money and posting scores is a thankless job. I just do it for the money.
  24. I have owned too many Glocks to count and have never had one that did not shoot to center mass with the stock sights. The trigger takes a little time to adjust to. I picked up a used G35 last year that appeared to have had less than a box of ammo through it. The rear sight was cranked up and all the way to the right. Store owner told me a LEO traded it in because it had a defective barrel. All of his shots were low and left. I agreed with the store owner that it must have a defective barrel. We all know that the average LEO is a superb marksman so it must be the gun. Whipped out four $100 bills and took that puppy home. Centered the crappy stock sights and put the first round in the center of a 2" Shoot-N-C at 25 yds. Guess the barrel fixed itself.
