Hand Adjustable Dillon Powder Measure Knob cheap.

Recommended Posts

Just a update. Someone pointed out that 1st class postage is limited to 1/4" thick. These are a little thicker then that. No one has complained about not getting theirs but I am posting this for future buyers.

I got mine from a guy on ebay; best of all they're BLUE!

The same guy also sent me some oversize spring clips gratis. They're about twice the size of the ones supplied with the RF 100 primer tubes, and much more convenient.

I don't have the supplier's name handy, so PM me if you can't find him. I'm slowly working my way through all the posts here, and won't be back to this thread for a while; but if I get any requests, I'll return and post the name of the ebay supplier on this thread.

There is a shooters specialty shop in south western Michigan that sells a kit that includes 3 knobs along with a thrust bearing set and several thumbscrew sets used to replace the hex head screws on things like the powder measure and powder check die. the name is Hit Factor Shooting Supply, LLC http://www.hitfactorshooting.com/main.sc . They make their own squib rods and sell brass brooms and a number of other items for the competition shooter.

Many many moons ago I put a little piece of masking tape on the hex portion then pushed on a socket the tape held it tight. I put a piece of Dillon blue painters tape around the socket, put marks all the way around the taped socket. It's worked great for a decade and a half, you really don't need much of an increase in diameter to easily adjust it.

I got some at Home Depot today. They had a bunch it seems some people have a real hard time finding them at their local Home Depot. If you want one PM me. They have two kinds a round knob and a wing nut type adjuster. It just slides over the nut on the powder measure.

To find them yourself they are in

Dr# 24 (Drawer #24)

Bin - C

DR# 973

Item # 30655 78128

Item # 30655 83748 (different Bin #)

They were under $2 so that plus a little shipping. I am just trying to help those out that can't get it locally not trying to make a buck.

This is the easy way to do this. Send me a Self Adressed Stamped envelope with $1.75 for the round knob (right side in picture) or $1.25 for the wing nut (left in picture and on press). They are under 1 oz so a simple postage stamp ought to do it just fine. PM me for my address.

I have read your post of years ago and I think your idea is great. but are you still willing to send me the round knob for $1.75 + shipping here is 2010?

This is even easier than the HD/Ace route.

Got to www.mcmaster.com and search for Thumb screws, you'll have the plastic heads that fix on 5/16 bolts (need to confirm that size, but I believe that to be correct). They are $4.75 for 10 in 4 different colors. .475 each seems pretty cheap to me...

McMaster has no minimum order, etc

Just incase you can't find them, here are the 5/16 size info from their webpage.

Color

Yellow 94052A443 $4.75 per Pack of 10

Red 94052A343 4.75 per Pack of 10

Gray 94052A243 4.75 per Pack of 10

Black 94052A143 4.75 per Pack of 10

THANKS! I just ordered 2 10 packs of black knobs for $9.90! I'm not sure what shipping was, because I was so excited! 20 of these for less than $10. Even if shipping is $10 it's still dirt cheap! I'm going to pass 'em out as party favors to my SASS reloading buds. Thanks again!

I recommend the lighter colors. White worked out well. I used a sharpie to draw an indicator on the knob as to which direction of rotation results in more powder. Writing on black isn't so easy.

Ok So I'm a newbie and trying to be a productive member of this forum. By the way got 1st order from BE today, not super fast shipping but definitely in an expedient manner. So being new to the cool blue forum, I thought to myself, "Self what can we do to help everyone out?" So I ran around Holmes Depo today and finally found one person willing to help me find the knobs mentioned by 98sr20ve. Well reading down in the post I discovered that the part number had additional #s missing. Thanks for the update 98 or I would have been really up the orange creek. So finally the associate and I found an SKU # (what stores control inventory with, every store or chain of stores has there own SKU system) So the one for a 3/8 flowerette knob is 581-158 at Holmes depo. This is for a white one mind you as we never could find the SKU for black or any other color. To add to this 45 minute adventure, the store didn't have any in stock! So, Since I live in the middle of nowhere and have internet, but very few options for Holmes Depo, other than driving another 2hrs on top of the 2 already driven. I surfed the web for 3/8 Flowerette knob. Found one a lovely shade of blue on Amazon! A little further surfin and found out they are supplied by monster fastener. Wait for it this is your government dollar at work here! Me being the government schlub. And yes I went shopping on my way back from a meeting. So here is the link in all its glory! monsterfastener.com/search.aspx?s=TSKBP-140 The link will take you directly to the knob. $5.97 for 4, plus shipping, my two boxes, 8 total were 16.33 with shipping! Now isn't everyone happy that Government Schlubs take a little break now and then? I am also including a pic so you can decide if you want one before you go to the sight. Also, thanks to everyone for motivating me to waste tax dollars! (actually I get paid salary for 24-7, so it doesn't make a difference!) Hope this helps and hope I'm being a productive member of Team Blue! B) Ok apparently I don't know how to attach photos, and to new to insert links?! Go figure, the FNG would screw it up. Oh Well my knobs are on the way!

P.S. Cut and past the red letters!

You actually need 5/16 flowerette knobs. I know, as I just installed 2 of the black ones I ordered from McMaster-Carr. 5/16, not 3/8... The 5/16 part number on Monster is: TSKBP-137

UPDATE: There is a black one at holmes depo. SKU #580995. Monster fastener does have the 5/16 & 3/8 knobs in blue. Bad part is FNG ordered the 1/4 knobs because it says thread size. I assumed that based on the thread size of 1/4-28 for our bolts this was the correct one. Still not sure, so I am going to talk to a rep tomorrow to confirm and will post update.

So is the opening round or shaped like the hex on the bolt? Because the bolt head is actually 7/16 wrench. Now I'm really confused! I hate being the FNG!

Ok one more and I'm out.

Reasoning 7/16 is way bigger than 3/8 or 5/16 wrench wise. Thought process, I believe is wrong, gotta figure out the diameter. So..... a 1/4-28 bolt has a hex head that is 1/2 or .500 point to point not flat to flat. So assuming that the knob is for hex cap screws a 5/16 is 0.469 inches and a 3/8 is .563 inches in diameter. The logical choice therefore is the 5/16 which I will order tomorrow. Alvarez  I should have listened! But since I'm not loading, I have time to run this to ground, and we all know now why it must be 5/16 and not 1/4 or 3/8. BTW, I am still going to get blue!

UPDATE:

Monster says theirs are threaded. Trying to find out if the interior is threaded or if it comes with a bolt attached. They dont have phone # dealing with genius through email. Stay tuned.
