Pretty much my very same thought. I don't need hyper-shiny brass, and I sure do not like having to dry the brass (even using a low temp oven, it's still a big PITA IMO). That, and the extra $$$ for a tumbler purchase.
The plus of SS media is that it lasts a lifetime (which could pay off the $$$ for the tumbler in the long run) and that there is less dust generated. Which is compensated by more mess due to water and cleaning solutions spills.
I switched back to the stock one, after some use of the roller handle.
The roller handle definitely looks better, but I find it a lot easier to operate the stock one.
It gives me a more positive feedback while seating primers, and I can more easily transfer power to the press.
I bought my 550 with the Brian's "As It Should Be" kit including the aluminum roller handle.
I went back using the normal handle since it works better for me. I can better feel the pressure/force of it, during primer seating.
I asked directly Tanfoglio in Italy, and they told me that it is OK to shoot lead through their polygonal rifled barrels.
They only care, as they told me, with lead more than jacketed bullets, is to clean the barrel after few hundred rounds.
I had the same problem with dented primers, to the point that I thought my 550 left the old spent primer in there
You need to check periodically that gunk is not accumulating over the primer seater, which can happen pretty frequently with all the stuff that pops off during the de-priming phase.
Thank you for the info. Are there any pictures around that show the difference in the two kind of magazines?
Are the new 9mm Elite Match, using the ones with a spacer, or the ones without?
I asked to Tanfoglio in Italy directly, and they told me that there is no problem is shooting lead with their polygonal rifled barrels.
Of course, they also said to keep the barrel decently clean, and not shoot 2000 rounds w/out properly clean it (or at least check its status).
