  1. I think this is great, and should you care to share your presentation I'd love to get a copy of it. I think one of the main things to stress to NEW shooters is that no one cares about your score, but YOU. It's been my experience that new shooters are so worried about being embarrassed because they finished last, or next to last. At then end of the day, new shooters need to be encouraged and applauded for getting out to shoot!
  2. Cross posted from the gun springs forum to get more info... I've gone through my MG 115's and I bought some of the 147 BBI's to try out as a factor of cost. I primarily shoot a G17 and a G34 in IDPA, but I also like to go and plink with the wife. That being said, I'm trying to come up with a good combo for the wife to shoot the bigger guns and not have to hang on to a handful. I went to the 12lb spring with my 115's (3.4g of TG) and the slide really seems to beat on the frame. Running a factory spring, or 15lb spring, I'm shooting the 147's with 3.5g of solo with no issues. From your experience, what is the lowest, reliable charge of solo1000 that I could go with running the 12lb spring in a G17? I've loaded up some test rounds but I have yet to make it to the range, I've got about 10 of each loaded from 3.3, 3.1, and 2.8.

  4. That's like a $350.00 stroller... I know because I bought one for my 8 month old... Dang fancy gun buggy!
  5. I just picked up a few from Bigred44, thanks for the link! I got the Arriendo(sp) dials and they were priced higher and they're purple!
  6. Any chance you'll make a version for the iPad (with a bigger size and graphics for the iPad)?
  7. I'm loading 147BBI over 3.5g of solo1000 and once i got the powder thrower adjusted i'm able to stay within .1 when i do a random check while loading. The most important thing to remember is being consistent while loading and do the same thing to the press every time.
  8. I've got 1k of the 147's on order from BBI and they should be here in a few days. Normally I load 115 MG's with 4.1g of TiteGroup. From all the reading I've done, TG is a bit to fast for the moly coated bullets and I don't want to deal with the aftermath. I know that folks are having good results with Solo1000 and Universal Clays with the black bullets. Has anyone had any good experience with Win 231? I have an 8 pounder of TG and about 10 pounds of 231 and if 231 would work, that would save me from having to buy another powder. Thanks for all of your help guys!
  9. Fwiw, I used the Sordins today at a match for the first time. I was pretty pleased overall. I did end up adding a set of plugs under the sordins just because it was a little too loud for me for an extended period of time. I was shooting outside if that has anything to do with it. If i were wearing them while i were shooting by myself probably would not used the plugs. It was nice being able to hear what was going on around me at the match.
  10. I just use mine for their intended purpose. Boring, i know.
  11. Thanks for the link BE. I actually bumped that post back in Oct of 09 to see if there was any instructions or video added...
  12. With about 2k cases to de-crimp, I think I'll give this mod a shot!
  13. I know this has been discussed before, but is anyone doing it? I called and spoke with someone at Dillon a few months ago and the person I spoke with said that they would not distribute a casefeeder for the 550 with rifle cases because they could not get the reliability that they would want in a production item. He went on to tell me that there are those out there that have been able to get the casefeeder to work with the .223 cases with some slight modifications and using some parts from the .380 conversion kit. Is anyone out there using this with success? If so, would you mind posting your findings, thoughts, and instructions. I am finding myself needing to load around 5k .223 per year and I am in desperate need of a more speedy process but I don't want to switch to a 650. I have two 550's (one LP and one SP), and I have to many conversions and tool heads for the 550 to sell one off.
  14. I had this same problem for a while until I tried a few things... What worked for me: When I push the arm down to take the cases up into their respective stations, I guide the case in station 2 into the powder die. What I found is if there is ANY variance between where the case is and where it has to go to fit inside of the powder insert inside of the powder die, the powder will skip right by it. I don't have this problem with .308 cases, just with .223 cases. This slows down my process just a tad, but it actually makes it more efficient because I don't waste powder and I don't have to stop to clean up spilled powder. Give this a try, it works like a charm for me.
  15. Some time ago I posed the question if anyone was reloading .308, specifically for a bolt gun, with a Dillon 550. I got a few responses that seemed to be folks reloading ammo for their gas guns, not specifically for a bolt gun. BE chimed in and said years ago that Dillon himself loaded up 100 .223 on the 550 and 100 .223 on a single stage and tested them for accuracy. Taking that information, I figured that it could (hopefully) work with a "precision" .308 load. For a little back story, I shoot a 600yd F-Class match every month or two. I'm looking for a quality load and I DIDN'T want to spend HOURS at the reloading bench. Without further a-due, here is my setup. A Dillon 550b setup as follows: Station 1- RCBS Neck Only die (will be a Lyman Universal Decapper in the future). My new brass had some dinged necks. Station 2- Powder drop Station 3- Forster BR Seating die Station 4- Empty In this go round I was using new brass (I'll prep the once fired brass on a single stage in the future and trim with a Giraud), 46 grains of Varget, and a Sierra 155 Palma (the older 2155). While the powder die was just about pegged out, I was consistently getting a 46 grain dump every time. I spot checked every now and then and I might have one or two charges that came out .1g over or under. I should note that every once and a while I would feel the powder die cut some of the powder. Typically those charges were within .2 or .3 so I'd pull that case and toss the powder back in the hopper. I'd also like to note that my OAL was consistent at 2.775. I'm looking to get out and shoot tomorrow to see how these measure up to the same load loaded on a single stage, weather permitting. At the end of the day, I'm happy. I wasn't in a rush and I loaded 100 rounds of .308 in 21 minutes. That's after I had the powder thrower adjusted and the dies set. This was my first go at setting my dies up on the 550 so I won't have to fool with it next time. I didn't time myself while loading on a single stage, but I know it's much longer. And what even better? I got to do it all with my 3 month old! I've got to get her up to speed early so she can remove the crimped primers in my .223 brass! (I hate removing those things) Pictures to prove that it happened-
  16. I'd like to add that the RCBS X-Die is to be used AFTER the brass has been resized on a FL sizing die, trimmed to minimum trim length, loaded, and fired. The X-Die does not prevent you from trimming completely, you still have to trim the first go-round.
  17. I spent yesterday reading about these black bullets (precision, etc) and it seems that solo is the powder that most folks are using. In the reading, I've seen that TiteGroup is not the powder to use with lead bullets because of the excessive heat and such. Has anyone used TiteGroup with any of the black bullets in a Glock? Specifically, a 147g. The main reason I ask this is because I have 8lbs of TiteGroup and I'd like to try the black bullets out because they are so much cheaper than the Montana Gold 147's. If no one has used TiteGroup with great success, how about W231? Thanks
  18. Well, when my press gets back from Dillon... I'll be loading up some .308. I expect them to shoot just fine.
  19. I have a 357PD and was wanting to do the same thing as you. There's a guy over on the smith and wesson forum that had a good bit of Starline brass that was stamped "41 Special". I think he had around 10k cases or so. The only problem that you run into is your dies- they may not be set up to accept such a short case. When I looked into doing the 41 special, I was going to have to get my expander die milled down and I think my seating die too. Right now, I'm using regular .41mag brass with a 225g RNFP with about 4.0g of Trail Boss and it's a pleasant load to shoot in a titanium frame gun. Here's where I get my bullets http://www.betterbullets.com/documents/KSS_Pricing.pdf Here's the brass link http://smith-wessonforum.com/accessories-m...cial-brass.html You do have to be a member at the SW forum to view the post I believe.
  20. I guess I should have added that I'm shooting this in a bolt gun so a crimp is not necessary for me. ETA- My trimming is done with a Giraud as well.
  21. I've started shooting F-class recently so I'm looking to crank out some .308 rounds in some sort of quantity. I load my .308 on a single stage at the moment and we all know what speed is like with that. My question- should I stick to the single stage route, or will I be able obtain the same "precision" with the 550. I'll resize and decap on the single stage, but I'd like to run my 550 like this- Station 1- universal decapper to knock out the flash hole Station 2- dump powder with either a dillon powder thrower or an RCBS, I haven't decided yet Station 3- seat bullet Station 4- ferry dust for better shooting I'm not one for weighing every charge, uniforming primer pockets, and all the stuff that goes into benchrest load development. I'd rather spend my time shooting as opposed to preforming laborious tasks at the reloading bench. Once I can outshoot my gun/ammo combination, then I'll move on to more things to improve my load. Oh, and I'm shooting 155 grain Palma's (the older one's) with a Federal LR primer and 46grains of Varget. Thanks guys.
  22. An old bump as I'm searching for a casefeeder to work on the 550. Any word on the videos?
