Van Halen remains one of the most important and influential bands of all time. Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, the band quickly won a loyal hometown fan base with their electrifying live shows. From the moment they released their self-titled 1978 debut album, Van Halen shook the foundations of rock, thanks largely to Roth's peerless showmanship, Eddie Van Halen's revolutionary guitar virtuosity and their songwriting abilities. It changed rock music forever.

The band's first album proved one of the biggest selling rock debuts, with key tracks like "Eruption," "Running with the Devil," "Jamie's Cryin'," "You Really Got Me" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" leading the way. The next year, the band followed up with Van Halen II, which included the hit "Dance the Night Away."

Subsequent albums like Women and Children First (1980), Fair Warning (1981) and Diver Down (1982), along with worldwide touring, solidified the band's reputation for innovative and unparalleled live performances. Classic Van Halen tracks from the early 80's include "Everybody Wants Some," "Unchained", "And The Cradle Will Rock", "Beautiful Girls", "Mean Street" and "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" just to name a few.

With their sixth album, released in, and titled 1984, Van Halen rose to stratospheric heights. Recorded at Eddie Van Halen's 5150 Studios, the multi-platinum smash yielded one of Van Halen's signature hits, "Jump," which remained #1 on the Billboard charts for an astounding five weeks straight. Other hits from the album include "Panama," "Hot For Teacher" and "I'll Wait."

The band's record of achievement is hard to top. Presented with two Diamond Award RIAA Certified Status' for their albums Van Halen and 1984, Van Halen joins an elite short list of two time Diamond Award honorees in the history of the music industry. The Diamond Award is presented to an artist for album sales of 10 million or more units. They are also in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most #1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart than any other band in history.

Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in March of this year, Van Halen has produced a treasured body of work that fans will admire for decades to come.

One thing is for sure, David Lee Roth is Van Halen. They were never as good without him(David) and I absolutely love Sammy Hagar. But the whole Sammy and then the last guy(Ihad given up on them by then) never did materilize. I was hoping that when Sammy arrived the band would be even better but alas David is the ticket. As good as Eddie is on the guitar he cant carry the band the David did.

After watching that press release I think it's funny how David Lee Roth by himself is seen as a 'half-hearted joke' and laughed at by many fans & industry types ........ Let's face it. He never really went far on his own. <_<

But when thought of as the Front Man of Van Halen ..... why he's a god. The paparazzi just couldn't get enough of him.

10 days ?

He said in the press release that they have been rehearsing now for 4 months ........

I will be very surprised if the make more than ten dates before they blow up... They don't get along well at all. Being on the road is a lot dif then rehearsals....

I disagree ...... I see something differenet in Eddie this time. I think it might be something to do with having his son in the band. Maybe he wants to keep the peace amongst everyone just for that reason. He wants Wolfgang to be able to enjoy the fame and fortune that come with being in a band. Not just a band .... a rock N roll band. Not just a rock N roll band ....... Van Frickin Halen B)

Ask us something more challenging next time please ........... Sammy has ALWAYS been a serious rocker, and I don't remember any time in his career that he didn't kick ass. Remember 3 Lock Box, Heavy Metal, and I Can't Drive 55 ?

A few years ago I saw Sammy Hagar / David Lee Roth when they were touring together. Every other night they would switch who was opening up for who, and who was the headliner. On the night we saw them David Lee opened up for Sammy, and I tell you what .... David Lee was good, but Sammy Hagar really kicked some serious butt. B)

You got to admit .... this band / group of rockers has been through some very interesting changes. ;)

Michael Anthony addresses Van Halen snubb

michael-anthony.jpg

Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has addressed the band's decision not to include him in its upcoming reunion tour with original vocalist David Lee Roth. Anthony, who is instead touring this fall with ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar, was replaced with guitarist Eddie Van Halen's teenage son Wolfgang. In a statement at his personal blog, Anthony wrote in part, "A lot of you have been asking about the upcoming Van Halen tour and my response to it. It's not that I'm not touring with Van Halen because I'm going out with Sammy. I'm going out with Sammy because I was not invited to do the VH tour. Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least!! Well, it's not to be, and life goes on."

As for his replacement, Anthony added, "One last note from myself to all the Van Halen fans out there who will be attending their shows...Wolfgang is a great kid, so don't judge him too harshly. I'm sure he'll do just fine!!"
