What Gun Should James Bond Carry?

Recommended Posts

007 with a Glock? Next thing you know they will have him driving a FORD. Oh wait wasn't one of the cars a FORD he was driving in Casino Royal?

He was driving the new Ford Modeo, even though it's not really the new Mondeo. But then technically the Aston Martin DBS he was driving is a Ford also.

My dad had a German made Walther PPK in .32 auto which was the first pistol I ever shot. As a young boy, I find it a little too heavy racking the slide to chamber a round but I shot it well and it was accurate. As a big Bond fan I was proud and thought it was cool to have it until it got stolen. I voted for the Sig P230 due to the size. But for a Bond carry pistol, a Walther P22 sized pistol chambered in 9mm should be the ticket ;)

I believe there was a scene in one of the Pierce Brosnan movies (Diamonds are Forever?)

in which he was cleaning his gun when a firefight broke out.

It turned out to be a holographic training exercise.

If I remember correctly, the gun appeared to be a Sig or possibly and H&K.

It seemed to fit him well and looked very natural in his hand.

I'll go with Sig

Tls

"The gun I belive he was cleaning was the little known or seen Steyr pistol."

It was a Walther p99. He picks this up in "Tomorrow Never Dies" when he is with the good looking Chinese agent. He makes a reference to it being the new Walther, told Q, to pick one up for him. The scene you are referring to is from "Die another Day" I think.

I recall reading in some of the gun rags that the British SAS had changed over from their trademark Browning HP to the Sig P226, with the Sig P228 as a secondary issue when concealment was an issue.

So for a member of HMSS a Sig P228 would be a good fit. And it does carry and conceal well, IMHO. Although I will admit, I have never tried to conceal a Sig P228 under a dinner jacket.

The Walther PPK in 7.65mm, at the time that the Ian Fleming Bond novels were written, was a pretty good choice. Silencers (or supressors, your choice) were available that worked well with that weapon. In the 1950's to early 60's, there were probably more small automatic's in 7.65mm(.32ACP) in circulation world wide, (if you excluded the wheelgun loving American's) then ANY other pistol. (from W.H.B. Smith's "The Book of Pistols and Revolvers")

I agree. Bond is British. The British special forces are issued with the 226. So it will have to be that.

Actually, you know how in many of the recent movies there's always a CIA operative the collaborates with JB. I'd have the CIA G-man hand 007 a nicely tricked-out 1911 and tell him "Here you go Cdr, this one's been with us for almost 100 years"

I did not know that SAS issues the 226 now. Great choice! I now firmly stand by my earlier choice of the P-226 as being the correct choice for a NEW Bond gun choice.

Great minds think alike ;) Here's my carry piece, it now matches with my screen name.

The Omega would go very well with a Sphinx 3000 Tactical Titanium.

I agree with the Sphinx. 1911s look great, but they're quintisential American. Indiana Jones should carry the 1911. Bond's gun should be European. Sigs are very good and competent guns but they are so successful, they are not unique. PPKs are great little guns, but been there done that. Every policeman carries a Gock. Great guns, but too mundane. Sphinx's are very credibly capable guns, don't look American, and certainly look unique. They look european and dangerous - which is what Bond should look. I would go for HK as a second choice.

New Bond...new gun. I think the new Walther PPS in 9mm is perfect for a tuxedo gun.

You make a good point in that it needs to fit under a tuxedo jacket, and look good with the tuxedo. And being Bond, the tuxedo has to fit great. Most of these guns (including my choice of Sphinx) are too big for that. How about a Sig 232? Very sleek profile. There is a certain macho Bond has in being such a good shot that he doesn't need a big gun, lasers, etc.
