Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. You make a good point in that it needs to fit under a tuxedo jacket, and look good with the tuxedo. And being Bond, the tuxedo has to fit great. Most of these guns (including my choice of Sphinx) are too big for that. How about a Sig 232? Very sleek profile. There is a certain macho Bond has in being such a good shot that he doesn't need a big gun, lasers, etc.
  2. I agree with the Sphinx. 1911s look great, but they're quintisential American. Indiana Jones should carry the 1911. Bond's gun should be European. Sigs are very good and competent guns but they are so successful, they are not unique. PPKs are great little guns, but been there done that. Every policeman carries a Gock. Great guns, but too mundane. Sphinx's are very credibly capable guns, don't look American, and certainly look unique. They look european and dangerous - which is what Bond should look. I would go for HK as a second choice.
  3. Krautwagen - I just found your picture and thread on the M&P. Very nice.
  4. Krautwagen - I notice your thumbnail shows an M&P with what appears to be a partially blasted slide - it looks very cool. Do you have a full size picture? Where did you get this done and how much did it cost? I am planning on getting the M&P in the 5 inch for Production. The 5 inch is supposed to come out at the shot show.
  5. Krautwagen - thanks for the feedback on the longslide vs Limited. The quality was my main concern, so no options there. ks-shooter - re 40 vs 10mm, try the CZ clone forum at http://czechpistols82792.yuku.com/forums/2...CLONE-CLUB.html. This is an interesting subject for me as well. I have read that conversion only requires a different barrel and spring in an EAA - going either way. The breach face is the same, and the outer diameter of the barrels are the same for the slide match. The barrel might require a slight fitting. You might have to change the mags, but you might not. I don't know how the front end of the hunter works. If it's something attached to the barrel, maybe you could have a gun smith unnattach and reattach to a six inch 40 cal barrel. If it's part of the slide, then it might be very easy to just replace the barrel, spring, maybe the mags, maybe a little proffessional fitting. Although per another thread here, it would not be legal for Limited - at least not yet.
  6. Hi folks. I am new to the EAA world, and am very interested in getting an EAA Limited 40 cal for limited competition. However, I really like the longslide on my Glock 24, and would like to have that option on the EAA, particularly for shooting steel in 9mm. I notice on the EAA site they offer complete longslides as accessories. I would like a gun where I can have both the 5 inch and 6 inch slide, and see which works better for me. Would the EAA 9mm or 40 cal longslide accessory part fit on the EAA Limited? Is there a difference in the barrel and or match accuracy in the longslide from the Limited model slide and barrel? Would this be legal in USPSA limited class? Anyone know how much slide lightening would cost for the EAA longslide? I read the thread on the EAA hunter for legality in Limited, but it appears to me that is a totally separate gun and separate issue. Presumably EAA has made at least 500 on the longslides as a factory option. I would appreciate any and all help. And also, since I am new to the forum, I am not certain I am asking this in the right place. So I apologize if I got the proceedure wrong.

    Use Of Zen

Like Christianity, Zen and Buddism come in many forms. I am adamantly not a Buddist, but have found Japanese Zen as applied to martial arts to be very helpful. In that context, it's all about state of mind, and mastery of skills through state of mind - not religion or worship. In that context it's just philosophy or even psychology. It addresses a subject area that western thought tends to ignore - that we have a choice about our state of mind, and our emotional reactions to circumstances. That state of mind can have a significant impact on our skills. And that we can work on this through mental practice. Try reading Musashi - The Book of Five Rings. Musashi was renowned as Japan's greatest swordsman, and credited his skill to the study of Zen. If I remember correctly (been quite a few years) there is little to nothing about Buddah, worship, or religion in his book. Zen is not a worship or a diety, it is a state of mind - a moving meditation, that can be applied to worship if you choose. I come from the computer industry and think of it in terms of bandwidth. If your head is filled with the little voice (Zen guys call it the "monkey on your back" for good reason), fear, nervousness, pride, the mortgage, etc, you have less mental capacity available to be devoted to the task at hand - like better shooting under pressure. It appears Leam has another way good way to get there - more power to him. My personal religious background doesn't work for this - so I'll stick to Zen.
  8. Thanks gentlemen. Appreciate the help. Cheers -
  9. Hello gentlemen. I am not new to guns, but new to the forum and new to competition shooting. Lots of great information on this forum. I have a question regarding caliber and slide length change under Limited or Limited 10 rules - which seems a little confusing to me. I have some funds for this project, but not a lot. I would like to shoot a standard 5 inch 9mm 1911 single stack in ADPA Enhanced. I have small hands, can get 10 round mags in 9mm, and there is no major/minor issue. Under Limited 10 rules, using the same gun, can I change out the slide and barrel to a Caspian 6 inch long slide, lightened, in 40 cal, so I can shoot major? If this is legal, is it because the rules say "components" as well as production guns, and there are many 1911 longslides made in all calibers? I also have a Glock 24, and I would like to try both for Limited, at least at first until I determine which works better for me. Shooting in Limited, if I wanted to put in a conversion barrel to 9mm (like for Steel Challenge), that would not be legal, because that constitutes a caliber change? I don't want to start a great debate here on the validity of the rules. I believe in following competition rules both in letter and intent. I just want to make certain I understand, and don't have any problems with interpretation at matches.
