Keep all the stuff for the pistol in one so if its just a pistol match I don't have to carry all the other stuff. Keep all the rifle and shotgun stuff in another bag for 3 gun. In addition to Derek's list I would add spare bolt group for AR users, assortment of mags 20's, 30's,40's, and a Beta, small screw driver, writing insturment of some kind, rule book,sun block, insect spray,band aids, mag cleaning brush,shotgun shell holders of your choice. SiG Lady Posted October 19, 2005 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Some of the basics: eye protection ear protection (muffs) extra ear plugs protein munchie bar(s) masking tape Q-tips mild shampoo for washing hands pen, pencil small paper targets occasionally a spare spring for the 1911 bore size template (for league nights) small plastic bags (quick brass retrieval system) Pact Club Timer II one brass squib-be-gone rod (used only twice) ammo breath mints guns and mags, of course Bear in mind two things: I shoot mainly at an indoor range (where beverages--like water and coffee--are ongoing, free and available), and also carry a purse wherein you'll find the many OTHER tools and accessories commonly associated with shooting or intelligent practical 'carry' for range activity (knives, flashlights, screwdrivers, allen wrenches, money, etc.). Bottled water in the car. Oh, and I know a guy who came to the range with a range-bagful of the usual stuff... but indeed DID forget the gun!! I bought a 3 wheeled baby jogger and put an umbrella holder on it and the bag sits in the seat, a small cooler on the bottom and a folding chair and I am ready for a day on the range. Band-aides Super glue, to work in conjunction w/ Band-aids Timer Pistol and mags are worn on person, just like when I don't go to the range Rifle or carbine always in truck w/ spare mags. A small towel to dry up persperation on the hands and face, wipe off your gun, etc. Soft cloth to clean your glasses and optics lens. I just wanted to wake this link up again, and maybe give a new insite on items to store in your range bag. (By this time the OP must already be on his THIRD range bag). Anyhoo...something that surprised me, was that there was no mention of a first aid kit. I am sporting an i-Shot Pro Shooter range bag. (Click on link). It seems to be a good bag...good enough that I purchased a second one for my shootin pardner. The bag has plenty of space, but you have to be careful to NOT overload the bag, as all the extra space SCREAMS to be filled with stuff. (Read below to see what I mean). When I first purchased the bag, I was also loading my ammo into the same bag. And I remember one time I was carrying almost 70 to 80 pounds worth of stuff in the bag. That's when I had to step back and re-evaluate "WHAT" I was actually going to carry in my bag from now on. And what was the first thing I decided? Easy...that that the ammo would be carried seperately, and in it's own bag. So from that moment on, I decided that my range bag must ALWAYS be light, and it must only have the bare essentials. (My weapons being the priority). Below is a list of the stuff I carry in my bag. You will see the items in the few pictures I have attached bewlow. Hatch MTE-100 Shooters Gloves 2 sets of gel earplugs, and 3 sets of the cheapo foam ones in the side pockets. 3 packs of Shoot-N-C Targets stashed in the side pockets. (For long distance rifle shooting). B-Square Gunsmith Screwdriver Kit Pro Ears Dimension 1 (For indoor shooting) Chrony Beta-Master Wiley X Saber Glasses (I also have the MAGLULA for my .223 rounds)Small dust pan and wisk broom (For collecting brass at the indoor range) Heavy-duty stapler & extra staples (to mount targets onto wood posts at outdoor shoots). Masking tape (self-explanitory) Portable hex set, needle nose pliers, bushing wrench, spring tester (Basic everyday tools) Extra recoil springs, 4oz bottle of FP-10, 4oz bottle of Breakfree CLP Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout (700 yard Range finder) CED 7000 Shot Timer Kestrel 2500 (Olive w/night vision feature) MilDot Master First Aid Kit (Set-up for a shooters scenario - CELOX, rubber gloves, anti-itch creams, anti-bacterial wipes, and a whole bunch of gauze, wraps, tournequite material, aspirin, etc...). And remember, as shooters, we sometimes shoot in very remote places. (Mountains, deserts, etc...). So it is important that you realize this, and carry all the first-aid materials that you can afford. There's a tool kit and other guns and ammo in the car, but at a typical match, my bag carries: 1 gun + mags 100-200 rounds ammo Pro-Ears Leatherman UpLula couple of pairs of ear plugs shooting glasses with tape extra shooting glasses without tape sunscreen bug dope (if necessary) range towel tube of slide glide old sock/shirt/boxers (grease rag) set of allen wrenches and bushing tool paper clip business cards bic pen, pencil, and notepad squib rod Sometimes a breakfast bar and a bottle of water Once I put my gun and loaded mags on my belt, the bag loses at least half its weight, and by the end of the match, it loses another 1/4. My basic rule is that any repair or adjustment that takes more than a leatherman, a rag, and/or an allen wrench is a repair worth walking to the car for. I don't have an Acog, but it seems every match someone w/ one is asking for a piece. Of course, being an electrician, I always have a roll or two on me.
