Glockinator
I noticed a lot of folks place the slide racker on the right side which seems a bit unusual to me. Any reason this would be better for a right hander than the left side?
grantwoodok
Some of the slide rackers don't have a ball bearing detent and are therefore somewhat permanent, so in order to get the slide off it has to be mounted on the right side. My backup open guns has this configuration and is awkard from an unloaded start. Otherwise it doesn't bug me that much to do anything about. Aircooled6racer
Hello: Whoever did the install of the racker did not get the cut in the correct place or they don't know how to install a ball detent or they are left handed. The left side for the racker works best for me since I am a right handed shooter. Thanks, Eric
Hi-Power Jack
The left side for the racker works best for me since I am a right handed shooter. +1. Since I'm holding the gun in my right hand, I want the racker to be where my left hand can reach it easily ...
Racinready300ex
I run a horizontal c-more mount, so putting the racker on the right side makes it easier to grab. Also with how I have my thumbs I'd probably get smacked by the racker anyway. I know at least one open shooter that has is racker on the right side for that reason. Foxbat
I had three guns with the racker on the right side (I am right handed). You get used to them pretty quickly, and very soon don't even notice that fact. Ideally - yes, it would be on the left side, but no big deal either way. MrPostman
Mine is also on the right side due to horizontal mounted cmore. Makes it easier to catch the round when unloading after finishing the course of fire. I just don't like the really long rackers that I could use with this mount for the left side, I'm sure they work but just not my cup of tea. Shmella
Another plus with the racker on the right side is holster position. I sold the original racker I had on my open gun and installed a sidewinder. I wish I held on to the one that I originally had (right sided) because the sidewinder limits how I can position my holster without the racker hitting my body. Glockinator
Good point, I did not think about the holster.
Bkreutz
I have mine on the left. I use a 90 Cmore and having the racker on the same side isn't a problem since the mount for the Cmore hangs off the left side. Holster wasn't an issue, I use a 014. I've tried it both ways and prefer it on the left side, just feels right to me.
Zerwas
All of these posts remind me of why I did NOT put a slide racker on my open pistol. Much happier that way and I don't loose any time on an unloaded start stage either.
ctay
Eric installed mine on the left side and it's awesome. Does not interfere with my thumbs - they aren't even close. Left side serves to prop the gun up on table starts as well which is nice. I wouldn't want to go without a racker - using it is a gross motor skill rather than the fine motor skill of grasping the slide. I can do it fast every time without thinking. bigcraig
ctay, is that a Shooter connection racker?
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Not Chris here but yes that is a Shooters Connection racker. I get the unfinished XL one and fit it. It cleans up very well and can be polished to a bright shine or bead blasted for a dull finish. It has to be bent to fit under the 90 degree mounts. I heat them up to do this. BoyGlock
It has ball detente? It looks no screw was used.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Yes, I install a ball detent so you can remove it easily and it won't come loose like a setscrew will. Thanks, Eric
bigcraig
I ask, because I bought a new DVC 9 Open and then put a 90 mount on it, the slide is already milled for slide racker, as well as having two ball detents. I will just get the unfinished one from SC and have my GS fit it.
ctay
Eric did a great job on mine - the ball detent is very handy. Just slip the racker out when cleaning, otherwise it never moves.
