snakeye
Lyman manual says for 125 gr JHP use 3.1 min 3.6 max OAL 1.075 Use the 80 % rule and work up from there
mic808
thanks snakeye. i made some 3.0 gr and i will make 3.2 gr to see. hope i can get my chrono by then
mcracco
http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol Hodgdon lists 3.0gn as max. But Clays is not a great choice for 9mm. Plenty of reports of running into pressure problems with no warning. Given the fact one source says start with a charge higher than the mfr lists as max..... blind bat
The factory in Australia that produces Clays burned down. We might noot see any new lshipments for a while. Save your Clays for 45acp.
Steve RA
I use 3.2 Clays with a 130gr LSWC, no problems or pressure signs.
v1911
I run 3.0gr OAL 1.145 out of a 5" 2011. I get about 131pf. 2.8gr makes minor, but too much risk for cold weather chrony.

It's more predictable and consistent with lighter bullets because there's less pressure so I load it with 135s for minor and 115s for steel. The only pressure issues I've run into was with 147s loaded short: it got really inconsistent shot to shot "bang, bang, boom, bang, pop".

Sure, you just need to be a certified hazmat shipper or access to one. Good luck with that.
CeeZer
Loading and shooting with Clays for a while. my load: Berry's 124gr RNDS plated bullets OAL - 1.12" charge - 3.6gr gun - CZ Shadow PF - 129 it's a soft and accurate load in my gun. Service Desk
If you can't get Clays, look for Alliant Clat Dot. It works the same way, but is a tad less spike prone in the pressure curve.
Joe D
I bought an 8# jug of Clay Dot a couple of weeks ago. It yielded the exact same velocities as Clays. The only difference I see is the occasional red flake. Pressure spikes mean nothing at a 130PF.

I'm not in favor of jacking up the charge to get the gun to run, a lighter recoil spring should do it for you.
