jayjay1
Hey guys, I´m having my Ups and Downs since I´ve changed from Production to Standard Division this year. I´m using a CZ 75 TS in .40, and I´m starting cocked and locked now in SD. I tried a lot to get the safety hit properly every time, but it still doesn´t work really good. It´s not, that my thumb is to short, I think it is the angle, where the safety sits. I have to bend my thumb in an unnatural angle to hit it and to do so, I must twist my hand a little bit when I draw the pistol. Either I hit the safety well and must turn the pistol afterwards a little bit in my hand, or I don´t hit the safety properly and the grabbing-to begins. Right now I have a flat grip on the right side and a fat one on the left, to get more space for my left thumb. But it still is a kind of crap, which makes me feel uncomfortable and costs me time every draw. Has anyone had the same experience and has a solution for me? Hi-Power Jack
Another type gun?
jayjay1
Yeah, would probably be a solution, but there is only this issue, the rest of the gun is absolutely great! And, well, I´m a little in love with this peace, so I have to find a way to get that done.
Driveshaft
Have you looked into any aftermarket safety lever to replace the stock one? A gunsmith may be able to help help with that since it is easier to change aspects of the lever rather than your thumb.
jayjay1
Well, I haven´t found anyone. If you know one, I would give it a try.
Nimitz
CZ Custom or Matt Mink if you're willing to send the gun to the U.S. ....
tkheard
How about using your support hand for the safety? I end up doing that on my 1911 when I didn't get it off earlier.
jayjay1
@Nimitz: Sorry, but sending the gun to the USA would be a horror for wasting money, a lot of time and a lot of bureaucracy. I surely would, but not with that much hurdles. Btw., I couldn´t find such a safety in Matt Mink´s shop. @tkheard: Well, I will give that a try tomorrow, but sounds like it would cost time too!? Nimitz
Didn't think it was very realistic but I assumed you knew everyone responding to you was in the US and therefore our gunsmith recommendations would be here ....
jayjay1
Sure, you are right. But if I just can get the part shipped here I could mount it on my own, so... Thank you anyway!
ohsevenflhx
I shoot a Tactical Sport too. Your going to hate this answer, but...just dry fire allot, and it will be natural and easier the more you use it. I've tried oversized safeties, modified safeties etc, and now am using the stock safety because I'm finally used to it. I don't even think about the safety now. jayjay1
Well, I don´t hate your answer, I rather would say it gives me hope! Can I ask you how big your hands are and which grips you use? Do you draw it "straight-handed" or do you twist your hand a little to the left when drawing? Tried this and it seems a liiiiiiiiittle bit better for me. I have no times to compare with, so I did some shooting to share it with you and hope you can and want to give me feedback. Life fire drill, IPSC classic target at 10 meters: 1.) Draw - 1 shot in the A-zone = roundabout 2 seconds (good one) 2.) Draw - 2 shots in the A-zone = r.a. 2,60 seconds (good one) At 25 meters: 1.) 2,50 seconds (good one) 2.) 3,75 seconds (good one)
BeerBaron
CZ make what they call a 'custom safety'. it's much wider than even the wide or extended safety and is angled in the middle like a 1911 style stafety which means you activate it kind of like a rocker instead of having to get under to flick it up. I'm pretty sure you could order one from the CZ UB shop. I'm fairly confident it'll solve the problem. at 10 meters an average draw and fire one shot in the A zone is 1.5 seconds. good guys do it in 1 second flat regularly. the IPSC gods do it sub 1 second regularly, like 0.8 etc.!!! the one you want looks like this:
jayjay1
Hey BB, does it still fit in the IPSC Box with this "wing"!?
alma
I use the stock safety and have adapted my grip to just ride my thumb on top of the safety.
BeerBaron
Hey BB, does it still fit in the IPSC Box with this "wing"!? I believe it does (a friend here just put one on his czechmate for standard div and we shoot with the IPSC box here). He did grind his down a little though (only because he felt it was wider than he needed it!). I have tried it out on a TS and the czechmate and it feels great. it's a good platform for you thumb. nagantino
Jayjay, have you tried the Franconia shops in Germany? I know they do specialised gun smithing jobs, although I have never had cause to use them. The work is done in their headquarters not actually in the first shop you walk into. I think they do the CZ Shadow "Mamba" work, trigger, springs etc. god knows the cost but it's worth investigating and you don't have to export the gun. Denmark/Netherlands have a thriving gun community also.
sfinney
Regardless of safety size, position, it should've getting flicked off as the gun is pushed out towards target. Practice dry firing til you can safely get the safety off after getting both hands on it but before it's fully extended..... If you can do that 1.25 draws should be realistic..... Neomet
I went to the CZC "el monster" safety. What I ended up doing was slowly (very slowly) cutting it down as with a really high grip you can start bumping it with the base of your thumb. It has gotten to where deactivating the safety isn't something I think about which is kind of the point of the exercise. If you don't like the push to activate function grind down that portion as well. Again, slow as she goes. http://czcustom.com/cztsextendedambisafetylhs.aspx
phidelt208
I'm in the same boat and going to try the a fore mentioned safety. I'll update when I get it installed
Philo_Beddoe
Thinner grips also help with reaching the safety. http://czcustom.com/CZ-Thin-Medium-Silver-Grips.aspx
leas327
I went with the CZC safety because I like to ride the safety. That thing is huge and I ended up cutting 3 mm off of it and putting a radius on the front corner to keep it from digging into my support hand. It is still big and almost impossible to miss

leas327
The gun measures 45.84 mm across the widest part of the safeties. I am an American, limited guns don't have to fit in a box so I have never tried it. From the rules it looks like the box is 45 mm +1/-0 mm so it would be close on a box that was made to the highest side of the tolerance. If I had to fit it in a box I would skim a little off each safety and call it good.
jayjay1
Thanks a lot leas327, nice to hear that. Although you are looking very young for such a big pistol, you are very polite and helpful. Sorry, just joking. Cheers and best wishes to ya, Jay
