Hello all, I´m teaching new shooters in our club pretty often (about ten times a year) and have some newbie family member which I´m, every now and then, taking to the range. They find their way easier with rifles, but struggle with the caliber and the weight/handyness. Now I saw a video on U-tube where a father teaches his daughter with a pistol in Carbine Conversion Kit, and she had a blast, she could make hits easy. So, now I want one for my newbies to let them have a positive experience right from the beginning. Well, I have a SP01 which was my second handgun ever and it still runs awesome. I had a TS (not O) SA as well, which I liked, but the precision was very poor, and that´s why I sold it.. It is a very heavy gun, but because of the trigger and the weight at the front, I would rate it higher than the SP01. Have shot a Shadow 2 several times, which is in between the first two. Never have shot the others.

Now add the weights, battery life and prizes, and you´ve made a greeeeaat review. Nice pic, great comparison option though.

The SRO costs about 850 Euros over here, that´s more than 900 bucks. I can get two CZ P10 or almost two Glocks for the same money. That´s insane, sorry, so, no SRO for me, thank you.

Hey darkside, I´m using my own made coated hardcasts weighing around 145gr and have loaded them for my old Shadow 1, where they came out around 134pf. I actually didn´t measure their velocity out of the Q5, will do that soon now, thanks. I´m somewhat faster with the irons, always losing the dot when shooting. Have shot the dot for about four weeks, maybe four or five times, then switched back to the irons.

Well, I don´t say that I´m overtrained, but does anyone of you guys actually have a Q5? Don´t get me wrong, I don´t want to bother you at all, but the Q5 is a bit special in the recoil department, a bit snappy. The slide is very heavy, the grip peace very light, and the most weight of the slide is on its rear, so that there is some real muzzle flip. Repeating Mr. Hwansik, there is a HUGE difference between the polymer and the steel frame. So all I want to do is getting as much help as possible.

Thanks guys, got that point. Will look for another sport dot then. Actually there are the DPP, the Vortex Venom and the Shield. Any other dots to recommend?

Well then, there seems to be no advantage over a DPP or a Vortex Venom I guess?

Is the SRO as bullet proofed as the RMR?

Well, I´m struggling with losing the dot every shot I make. The heavy slide compared to the light grip is not nice, but I worked it out with irons. Mounting the original steel plate and the red dot changes things for me quite a bit. The gun flips somewhat more, the heavy plate with the RD on it adds not only some weight to the slide, so it does on the end, which increases muzzle flip even more. I have to refind my dot almost after every shot, my split times are three times more than with irons. To fix this problem a bit, I thought lighter mounting plates than that heavy original ones could help a lot. Is there any aftermarket plate for the Q5 which is lighter? Best regards, Jay

Never done this kind of coating and I know no one who has done it aaaand I don´t want to ruin my beloved gun. ?

Hey! Thanks für your help and infos guys, I really appreciate that. ? Ok, my goal is to shoot the Q5 in IPSC PO and have mounted a red dot on it. I tried the weaker Wilson Combat spring, as recommended here in another thread, but that lead to ftf all the time after I´ve mounted the red dot. So I went back to the factory spring and that problem is gone. I also added rubber grip tape from Talon Grips, like I said, I have no issues with the strong hand, only with the support hand. So I will try to angle my wrist more forward and squeeze that thingy harder, got to train that. Thanks again for taking the time and helping me.

Hi Fellas, I´m switching after 8 years from my old and beloved CZ 75 SP-01 with iron sights to a Walther Q5 Match Champion with a red dot. I do have some issues with changing to a red dot, but that is discussed in another thread. Here I want to get your help with holding the Q5 firmly and managing the recoil. I know, it is just a 9mm, but the gun behaves totally different from what I´m used to with the CZ. And don´t get me wrong though, I love the Q5 for its ergos, trigger, grip and accuracy, so please help me to get it tamed. ? I think my problem is mainly because of the different ratios between the grip and the slide weight. With the CZ, the grip (resting weight) is much heavier in comparison to the slide (backmoving weight), so that the "kick back" of the gun is a lot softer. I didn´t measure it though, but I think the weight ratio at the Walther is 4-5 times higher than it is at the CZ (much lighter grip, much heavier slide including plate and red dot). Another point in my opinion is, that the slide rides higher above the hands on the Walther - and - the handle itself is fixed further to the front, which results in a key point further to the front. This might even cause a stronger muzzle flip (in my opinion). After every shot I have to fight back the pistol and search the Dot again, which increased the split times for my follow-up shots dramatically (compared to the CZ). Talking about the haptics I would say there is almost no difference with the strong hand on both pistols, even a bit a better grip on the Walther Q5. But there is a huge difference by holding the Q5 with the support hand. On the CZ the thumb of my support hand rests on the slide catch, so that I can press the gun down or fix it there, that´s a huge advantage compared to the Walther Q5 which hasn´t such a fixing point. It is more the opossite, the thumb of my support hand finds no hold at the Q5, where the grip is plain and slick. Well, now I have written a lot, but that´s what drives me around since some weeks. I hope you can follow my thoughts and that you can help me by telling how you do it. Best regards, Jo

Hi MemphisMechanic, thank you for taking the time. I´m shooting IPSC on the old continent, if I would mill the slide I would be upgraded by the RO: "Welcome to Open!" ? That´s what makes the Shield RMS sexy, it has its own very thin adapter plate which is much lighter and lower as the original plates of the Q5. So the DPP would ride HIGH on mine, no milling allowed. It cost´s about 500 bucks here. The C-More RTS 2 is at about the same price, I didn´t have it on my list till now, thanks for that. Vortex Venom and Viper are running about 280 bucks over here, if you can get one, which is not that easy. Are all of them compatible with the adapter plates of the Q5? I will do some further research about these Dots, thanks again.

Didn´t find a comment about red dot options yet, might be I´ve overseen it, if so I´m sorry. Can you talk me about red dot options? I think Kim Hwansik runs a Delta Point? I´m looking for a red dot for my getting older eyes. It should have a wide glass area, being lightweight, low-mounted, parallax-free. Thought about the Shield RMS, but don´t have experience with it. And for IPSC: How big should the Dot be, accounting to my aging eyes? I´m thankful for every opinion.
