  1. This an old thread but ….I went looking for “Titegroup and odd smells” and here it is. It’s been driving me crazy these last weeks. WHAT IS THAT SMELL.? I’ve changed soap, deodorant, I’ve blamed the wife’s deodorant everything. Now I know someone else suffers. I thought it was my grandson, or his baby bottle. It is a thing. It’s not a bad smell nor is it like steak on a pan, it’s jusTt WHAT IS THE SMELL. Might switch to Bullseye
  2. The bullets are PC 158 sized to .3565 cast from the Lee 358-158-RF mold. I was always told that .38 sp need “ just enough to make them go” and that accuracy was inherent to the gun and you. I reduced the powder to the lowest data I could find, 2.8, but I suppose I could have been having an off day. I will raise the powder charge by one increment on the Lee powder disc and proceed from there. Does anyone else use the “just enough to make them go” theory?
  3. I have recently taken up target competition shooting. 25 yards then 15 then 10. We call it Timed and Precision and I’m not sure if it’s a thing in the States. I bought a 6 inch S&W Target Champion which is pretty sweet. In trying out different loads I was using 3.6 of Vectan BA 9.5 which is equivalent to Red Dot or 700X. Today I lowered the load to .2.8 to try for “feel” and accuracy. To be honest I couldn’t fell much difference in recoil, but the accuracy was disappointing. I use a fairly good crimp and I’m reading that this is a factor too in accuracy. My question is…..Is there a connection between powder load and accuracy?
  4. Small country, not USA. Film all you want but no posting on social media. You would be asked to leave the club and therefore forfeit your firearms. I went to the indoor range today and sighted up the RD. It was a little low. At a reasonable IPSC distance of 20 or 15 yards I think the hits would be significantly below the target. It’s raised now so next week’s competition will tell. Thanks for the advice.
  5. We have a rule of no sharing on social media.
  6. RJH, yes that might be it. I’m still getting to grips with the RD so more practice maybe. When the penny dropped yesterday, I was getting good hits by aiming high. Considering this, is there any adjustment to the RD that’s practical?
  7. I bought a CZ Shadow2 recently, optics ready, but didn’t bother fitting my red dot sight. I decided to give it a go and fitted a Vortex Venom. At the range it hits well, uncanny really, so I was happy. I’m just back from an IPSC match with varied results. The gun was hitting low on every target, misses in fact, at medium and longer ranges, say from 5 yards to 15 yards. By the 3rd stage I had learnt to aim high on the target and suddenly I was dropping steel and hitting double alpha. I thought the idea of RD was precision. Do I have a zeroing problem?
  8. I’m about to have a final go at reloading my own buckshot shells for IPSC PSG. I’ve read loads on making buckshot, but I mean loads. There’s lots on shells built to kill feral pigs, upland turkey and deer. The trouble is I want to shoot paper and steel targets on IPSC ranges and don’t need 12 pellets of 00 speading over a 30” circle. I need a tight pattern at 16 yards say, with 8 or 9 pellets of 00. I’ve tried 12G shotcup, petals on , petals off, petals cut off ...you get the picture. My patterns so far have been less than spectacular and definitely not fist sized at 16 yards. My last resort is to order some fibre wads tomorrow with waxed discs to build a shell. I use 19 grains of Vectan AS, pretty moderate, with a 69 mm Cheddite case, cut down, pre primed and I roll crimp. Choke is Improved Modified but I’m waiting on Modified this week as it’s supposed to be best. I load mine short, 21/2” as in birdshot length, so the shell fits into my caddies. All sorts of Feral pig loads but no IPSC PSG, so can anyone chip in with their competition loads for buckshot?
  9. During this lockdown I’ve come back to a problem in reloading buckshot shells. We don’t shoot too many Practical Shotgun (IPSC) competitions and most are birdshot anyway, but here are some set up for Spring and early summer. Here’s the problem; I use the older type shell carriers, they work and they do the job, but when I reload my buckshot shells they are too long. They won’t fit into the carriers shown. I started with 9 pellets, too long and lumpy, them 8 pellets, looks good but too long. Is anyone making buckshot with less pellets than 8, the same length as a standard birdshot shell, and how to they pattern and shot in competition?
  10. Hi, I shoot a lot of IPSC Pistol with a CZ Shadow in Production Division. Just this week a Shadow 2 Optics Ready (OR)has become available near me. It’s not cheap €1425. I own a Vortex Viper red dot which was rarely used so I thought why not mount it on my Shadow, but when the Shadow 2 became available it gave me my quandary : Stick with the Shadow and mount the RD or mount it on the Shadow 2. 1. What is the benefit of an optics ready Shadow2? 2. Is the Shadow with a RD the same experience. 3. Is the Shadow2 dot easier to “find” because it’s lower on the slide? I know the Shadow2 OR will not sit for long in the local dealers, so what do you think?
  11. The Typhoon F12 is a well designed contender. It's heavier than my 1301 by a long way but I bought it because I can't reload the 1301 with my stiff fingers. Many have bought it as their first Competition shotgun because of this. It still needs practice to reload a 10 round magazine believe me. If you buy one check out the video on how to strip it. Do that before taking it to the range. Inside you will find a piston affair marked "light load" and "heavy load". Heavy Load should not be required for competition so make sure the arrow for Light Load is facing towards the operator. Mine and others was in the other way. It shoots every thing I give it now mostly 28 gram. I have heard some boast 24 gram but I've never gone that low. Mine has a Vortex Venom mounted on a cheap 1inch riser. The gun is big in Europe and as someone said, the glitches have been ironed out. I hope. Big following in the U.K. especially and some good YouTube stuff. I was looking forward to its first competition tomorrow but it's cancelled due to weather. Next time.
  12. Well I got my Typhoon F12 shotgun. It's the AR type. I've got Front and rear iron sights fitted but I've noticed competition guys using Holo scopes. It's important to see the targets as you transition so which system works best?
  13. It's an age thing I guess and the fear of DQ if you leave the Cooper Tunnel and point the muzzle in an unsafe direction.
  14. Course designers may not design a course of fire that requires the competitor to re-holster, however a competitor may choose to re-holster during a course of fire as long as it is done safely. Rule 8.2.5 I have never seen anyone reholster during a Stage or Course of Fire, then continue shooting, but I think this is permissible. I ask because the Cooper Tunnel always gives me a problem especially if I have to back out of it to contiue shooting. So........must inform the RO of my intentions to do so and what procedure clears the gun to his satisfaction?
  15. I'm waiting on a new Typhoon F12 shotgun to arrive. This will put me in Open Class. Locally, the box fed magazine Shotgun has gained many followers because it eliminates, or simplifies reloading. I compete now with a Beratta 1301 but arthritis makes it a slow job. The Typhoon will have 3x10 round magazines. When filled, I know the magazines will be heavy. I wanted to ask ....Which belt/holder system in Open Class, has gained a proven solution in Competition?
  16. Birds, just reading this. Did you ever solve this problem?
  17. I thought this was the best place for my query about my1301. I can't quad load because I have poor grip in my right hand. The left is worse, so I use the "old fashioned" California caddie holding 4 shells. I load right handed. Here's my question : is there any point in opening out the loading port as many have done? I'm having the lifter weldedup and was wondering do any others load right handed and did the port opening help.
  18. Well it cleaned up nicely with Hoppes and a small brass brush. It is stubborn though. An ordinary toothbrush wasn't cutting into it. If your doing it lubricate the area then brass brush........if you only use the brush it coats the area in brasstain. Anyway it's sorted. I'll use tape in future.
  19. Morning all, I'm running my Beretta 1301 in still. I was having some problems cycling fibre wads. I've been using 32 gram plastic to get it sweet. It's almost there. But, my problem concerns the carbon build up on the Nordic Extension tube. It's unsightly and I like the gun to look clean. Can anyone suggest a cleaning solution. I'm trying to avoid marking the tube. This it after 50 shells.
  20. I struggled with the FCD for a long time. I read the instructions and watched the videos but, after doing so, the finished rounds were unsatisfactory. I could take the round and turn the lead bullet with my fingers and even pull it out. I started again and now the round can just be felt touching the die. It's not how it's meant to be but the 9mm and .45 acp all pass the thunk test. That's the short version.
  21. I can't quiet find the answer to this problem. I have the CZ Shadow for Production class. At the last level 3 I had a new Recoil Spring and Main Spring fitted....13 and 11. The gun feels great, lighter double action and generally a better feel to the trigger. My question is this: Can I reload lighter loads now, so that muzzle flip can be reduced further and felt recoil reduced also? I am loading 124 Lee Lead TL cast bullet over 5.8 grs of Power Pistol, OAL 1.10 I find this load to be snappy. Will the lighter springs allow for lighter powder loads?
  22. Jayjay, have you tried the Franconia shops in Germany? I know they do specialised gun smithing jobs, although I have never had cause to use them. The work is done in their headquarters not actually in the first shop you walk into. I think they do the CZ Shadow "Mamba" work, trigger, springs etc. god knows the cost but it's worth investigating and you don't have to export the gun. Denmark/Netherlands have a thriving gun community also.
  23. I've been a participant in IPSC comps for a few years now. Recently I've moved into Production but my problem really has little to do with Standard or Production division. The question I would like some advice on is ......wait for it......Speed or Accuracy. I've just finished going over the print-outs for the last 2 comps. The last was a Level 11 the one before a Level 11 also. My position in the individual Stages of both Competitions was very similar. Good points but too slow. After the first I was so dispirited I determined to improve. I came 24 out of a field of 34. I decided to forego speed and try to shoot A boxes in the next Comp which was last week. I did shoot A boxes but much slower. I came 23 out of a field of 35 in Production. No improvement and much frustration. Is it better to try to shoot faster and hope or ......what?
  24. I have had this problem for quiet a while now....the problem is when shooting a stage, any stage, I consistently miss the first target but hit well on all subsequent targets. Sometimes I miss with both shots, sometimes just the one. I am a slow shooter, so slowing down even more goes against everything I am trying to achieve. If I shoot one set of targets then move to another set in the same stage, there it is again......... Micheal! Do I just accept I need to slow down and guarentee the hit. I can feel those seconds ticking away.
