SSP/ESP guys. how often do you use the 3rd mag?

In the 2 + years I have been shooting IDPA I don't recall ever using the 3rd mag. The only time I see a third mag being used is when new shooters are shooting and there is a lot of steel on the steel (like what NC Buck was referring to).

I'm ESP Expert. If I have to go to the third mag, then I'm probably not going to win. I consider it there for malfunction recovery only.

I've noticed that i rarely use the 3rd mag in matches. I used to keep the 3rd mag in its pouch, but after a few times of my mags falling out and getting penalize for it, i have stopped doing so unless needed.

So how often do you use the 3rd mag??

By "...falling out..." do you mean from the pouch or gun ?

Seldom use the 3rd. mag BUT want it on the belt in the outside chance that the

1st. reloaded mag fails outright or have any type of stoppage requiring it to be "ripped" from the gun.

Not very often, but it does happen. On rare occasion you can do two moving reloads instead of one static. If you're slick, you save time. If not, you're toast.

I find that if you're dumb enough to not case gauge your reloads, you have a higher chance of needing that 3rd mag. Ask me how I know.....

I believe I've had to use the third mag twice in SSP. Both times due to an apparent malfunction which required dumping the mag and grabbing a new one.

When I run out of the first two. Once in a while, not very often.

I am at present shooting a setup that requires 9+1 loadout; 19 shots available with one reload. So if I am sloppy, I may have to dig out that third clip.

(Setup = .45 ACP single stack minor ESP, with 9 round magazines made to just fit The Box.)

I've never needed it in SSP/ESP...
