  1. From reading this thread so far can it be that I'm the only person who unbags at a table at the side berm and walks to the starting position with the PCC flagged and vertical when it's my turn to shoot? After the stage is completed, I flag and then carry the PCC back to the table (vertical, of course) and rebag and zip closed. I do not bring my entire bag/case to the line, just the PCC. AD
  2. And in a more serious note (I'm an iron sight, 6 shooter guy, how serious can I be?) anyway, the email to ICORE was answered promptly with a Paypal invoice. Paid it, got the receipt. Numbers updated. ICORE membership packet showed up via postal mail shortly thereafter. After all my whining and complaining about it, the entire renewal went very smoothly and quickly. AD
  3. That's odd. Steel Challenge is the perfect place to shoot both iron and optic PCC's. The guys slowing up the group are NOT the PCC guys, at least not at our 5 matches a month. AD
  4. And that's what I did. Solves the future renewal problem. AD
  5. My neighbor next door wanted to know what the heck was with the guy on the horse delivering something in the mail to me today. I told him it was the Pony Express dispatch rider with my updated membership from ICORE! AD
  6. Luckily I found a desktop computer with Windows 95 on it and paid my renewal using MS-DOS tonight. AD
  7. Now where in the heck did I leave my spats? Probably next to my Arrow collars in the drawer. AD
  8. Well, now that this ICORE membership thing has been brought up again, I figured I can't wait any longer for a civilized membership renewal plan so went ahead and did the "request email thing" today. Still don't have any stamps in the house so it defaulted to the email thingie. AD
  9. With all of the whining and gnashing of teeth about PCC in IDPA, the small amount of my group (including me) that shoots PCC tries to keep the noise down by shooting "HSO". Head Shots Only. Doesn't really slow you down all that much, even when shooting the weak shoulder targets. It does keep the ESP guys from complaining, which is good. AD
  10. Wow! A solution in under 25 messages. I do believe that's some kind of world record. AD
  11. I'll be 72 this year. If you are physically able to practice, consider it a blessing. I do. AD
  12. Gotta agree with that one. I shoot with a few guys who are all just about equal in shooting ability on my regular squad but Outer Limits just kills them. The main difference is the time from the second shot to the third shot. I'm easily 1.5 to 2.5 seconds faster in that place. I did put in a serious amount of practice time taking those first three shots. Par timed the first two. Par timed the transition from 2 to 3. And finally par timed the finish. Once it was broken down it was obvious where I could pick up some time and that was in the transition from the 2nd shot to the 3rd! Our shooting box is a combination of dirt, mud, gravel and half the time, water. Equally bad for everybody! AD
  13. Rule 8.3.4.1 covers a False Start. Rule 10.2.6 covers "creeping" at the start. The former is a restart. The latter is a PE. But that's from the USPSA Rulebook. Couldn't find anything mentioned in the Steel Challenge book. AD
  14. Because that's the next step which will either involve paying via credit card over the phone (OK, I can deal with that) or most probably getting the PayPal link sent to me, which I can deal with or just stop being stubborn and print out the pdf file and mail it in while I wait another month or so for the renewal (like last time). I guess I'll email her today and hope that next year's renewal in online. Luckily for me the little girl that sells lemonade on the side of the road at the corner has a "Square" reader on her phone. AD
  15. Any updates on the online renewal process? I'm deep into my "grace" period and would really like to renew before the Sept IRC. Or am I forced to find my checkbook, dust it off, and attempt to mail a check in. Now where in the heck are those 3 cent stamps I bought 15 years ago?? Somewhere in the bottom of the junk drawer with my spare Centronics printer cables. AD (extra credit if you even know what a Centronics printer cable looks like)
  16. It would appear that running/movement with the muzzle pointed down (or at the berm) would always be preferred compared to movement with the muzzle pointed OVER the berm. Light one off with the muzzle at the ground and it's no problem (the 10 foot rule applies, of course) but launch one over the berm and you're usually done for the day. AD
  17. Yep. Correct on both counts for sure. Hard to beat the FUN factor though. AD
  18. Looks like I'll have to go take another look and see if I can renew. AD
  19. I came into this particular thread a "few years" ago and wound up printing out a membership renewal and sending it in. I figured in the intervening YEARS we could get ICORE to work out the bugs/problems with renewing online. Evidently not. I went to renew today (in my grace period as there was no notice to renew) and discovered, once again, that I have to print out a form and mail it in. Really? Is there any estimate of when ICORE will eventually get to an online renewal program? I realize we're all just volunteers out here but this just seems odd. AD
  20. Now that the 50 yard target array is gone I've had several "requests" to run a PCC only classifier. Looks like I'll have 5 PCC guys for my usual 1st Monday of the month set up this time. AD
  21. Hmm, some good thoughts on the mags. I've been running with the big stick but will have to try running the normal mags loaded to 15 for an upcoming Classifier match. AD
  22. Thanks for bringing up the ICORE membership "problem". Interesting discussion for sure. I have found over the past several years that attempting to bring in shooters to IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, etc that what works for me is to offer up the game as a challenge for a shooter AND HIS BUDDY. A single new shooter comes in scared, excited, bewildered and only probably knows the one guy who invited him to shoot. He sees the super fast guys and get dejected, especially after seeing his own performance for the first time on the clock. However, if you get that same guy to bring his best shooting buddy with him then you get a lot of personal and one on one shooting as they can compare against each other and plan on challenging the "other guy" to a rematch the next week. They are not nearly as intimidated by all the super fast guys with the ultra competitive outlook. I've seen this a lot. Shooting pairs brings back more repeat shooters than your basic single. Throw in some advertising at ALL of the local gun stores in the surrounding counties to encourage simple competition among friends and you've found the hook. Local gun stores are never a problem with having advertising flyers like these put out as it eventually will bring a shooter back for supplies or perhaps a newer firearm. I had seriously considered starting an ICORE chapter down here but our range's shooting schedule is pretty full now and we are very lucky to be able to draw on most of south and southwest Florida for 5 matches a week. As many of these guys shoot in multiple venues, adding another shoot, and with revolvers, would be only for the few hardy souls that run it in IDPA and USPSA from time to time. But then, if we could drag out some of those people with revolvers sitting in a sock drawer year after year, you might get a whole new group involved. I have had some luck with the occasional BUG shooter who brings a revolver to a match to explain what ICORE is. Most have never heard of it. I'd say we have a recognition problem among people who are not already active club shooters. Oh yeah. I believe newer, younger shooters want to run and gun. I've seen some nice run and gun ICORE stages. That part shouldn't be a problem. Lots of fun. The people I've seen in ICORE are pretty dedicated to the wheel gun and a great bunch. This is good, but then we know a good firearm when we see one and it comes with a cylinder! AD
