  1. Consider yourself Lucky ! There are clubs that run it only once per year or season and some that have tried to run it on an indoor range in the middle of Winter in one of the Canadian Border states !
  2. Brownell's Oxopho-Blue (Cold Blue) works very well. Even better if you heat the sight up to just 100 degrees but really should use 4-0 steel wool very lightly and Re-blue the sight(s) several times.
  3. Under the impression that these mags don't have a metal liner ? If this is true, even with a 'New' polymer, it may wise to see how they hold up in longer term use lest you wind up experiencing one of the problems the old OEM NDF Mags had which was cracking between the witness holes in a "connect the dot" fashion...
  4. Jager's copy makes no mention of an extended tip ? That said, have never had a problem with ZEV's regular lightweight striker using FED, WIN or Fiocchi primers.
  5. Quite a few of the 'Funnels have, that don't use much have rust on them. Don't believe the subcontractor that makes them is too concerned about the "finish" inside ? Have several 9mm ones that were so poorly machined in the expansion area that finally had a machinist turn them just to clean them up enough so they don't stick in the case mouths and load up with brass particals !
  6. They undercut the trigger guard that THIN ?
  7. My concern would be that the shooter was given the opportunity to correct his error before the penalty was given ? Did the "SK" verbally call "Cover !" ? Or did you find out about it only after your run ?
  8. By "...falling out..." do you mean from the pouch or gun ? Seldom use the 3rd. mag BUT want it on the belt in the outside chance that the 1st. reloaded mag fails outright or have any type of stoppage requiring it to be "ripped" from the gun.
  9. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned already ? A scuffed-up Channel Liner can easily cause intermittent light-strikes ! For those of us that run other than OEM parts in there, it's one of the items that should be r/r'd after the end of the season. Almost always, the area right behind the opening to the breech-face accumulates the most/worst gunk ! It's easier to get that area squeaky-clean if the liner is not in place. Like the fellow said, they're not difficult to remove plus don't cost much and it is something one should always have a couple of on hand. Believe it to be better with the current guns but no so long ago, if you took a spanking new gun and popped the guts out of the slide you'd find the channel and striker as a unit 'almost' dripping with what appeared to be very light and dirty machine oil ! Have always "Lubed" the striker and its assembly with one of the oils or "Metal Treatments" designed to be applied then wiped completely off with almost zero ill-effects with using WIN, FED or Fiocchi primers but only use plated or jacketed bullets having no exposed lead at the base and "Marine" Spring-Cups and right now everything in there besides the liner, spacer & cups are Zev parts. On the other end of the rainbow once tried a couple K of a type of "Black" bullet and even with trying several different powders at the rec of the maker the gun Never ran reliably until going back to original loads and cleaned well...
  10. Which Green Mountain bag fits the cart perfectly? If it's of help ? The smaller is : 23" L X 11" W X 10.5" H, the larger 27" L X 14" W X 12.5" H
  11. ~ "GET A GREEN MOUNTAIN MY FRIEND ! This is my bag. Constant use for 14 years. No complaints or problems. Made in Ft. Collins, Colorado Green Mountain Original Stock Bag. http://www.ams-gms.c...range-bags.html Many of us Colorado shooters have these. No BS warranty. Very reasonable shipping costs." While have had & used a number of other well-known bags the one have wound up using the most over a like time frame is the Green Mtn. Original same as Sierra 77 ! Might add that GM has tweaked their bags to perfection over the years. Still see their bags at the larger matches that look even older than mine, yet are still going strong. Even managed to to pick up a used one at a can't- turn-it-down price for use as a practice/alternate bag. Also like them as they are slimmer making passage thru doorways, etc. easier plus don't wind up bumping others or unyielding objects at events, etc.
  12. "I will be ordering a lighter recoil spring and will be loading plated 147's with tite group. I'm looking for info on how low I can take it and still have it be reliable and safe." A long time ago when Titegroup was really taking off in popularity, called and spoke with several of Hodgdon's Ballisticans. One finally said "You can go as low as you want with Titegroup and be safe, so long as the bullet exits the barrel." Can't speak to 147's but have gone as low a 3.50 gr. with a 124 gr. M/G JHP at ca. 1.150" OAL. FWIW, use a 14 Lb. Wolff in a 3rd. Gen Glock 34...
  13. If you're used to shooting IDPA in Texas you're probably in for a surprise as IDPA isn't very strong in this state. USPSA is alive and well and has been long established here. Brooks hosts monthly matches and is around a half hour drive from GCL which is a short drive from the city center. There is also a strong USPSA club in the Buffalo area and part of the reason they are is quite a number of Canadian shooters attend their matches ea. month. You will also see about the same faces at all 3 Clubs since all are in Area 7 and they lay out the season's match schedule so there are as few Sat/Sun conflicts as possible. Cortland is another strong area for USPSA and is about a 2 hour drive from Rochester. With the exception of Cortland, the other Clubs generally only run 4 Stage Matches with alternating shotgun or rifle side matches every other month. GCL is a fairly small Gun Club in size, in part as it's been in the same place since just after WW II and the area growing up around it from mostly farmland to heavy residential now. Their advantage is being able to shoot year 'round as they have an indoor range that is 25 yards deep and divided in half so they are able to run 4 Stages plus there is a $5.00 per run USPSA "Practice Match" indoors every Wed. at about 5 PM & 7 PM year 'round. Brooks also holds Steel Challenge Matches about 4 X per season along with an annual 3-Gun. GCL has one 8-Stage annual match right around the 4th of July that's very well attended. Cortland can have several matches similar, but tend to favor Rifle with at least several 200+ yard Stages. There are other USPSA Clubs with fairly easy access from the NYS Thruway {I-90} but have limited this to those a max of a couple of hours from Rochester. If you don't mind driving, the closer to PA one gets the more Clubs you'll find. IDPA is very strong and well organized in PA and host many sanctioned matches. For an idea of where and how far the other USPSA Clubs are, going to Area 7's website at: http://www.uspsa7.org/ and review "Eastern Lakes Section".
  14. FYI: Looked yesterday on their New {?} site and appears that it's nowhere to be found ? Even with their search engine.... Getting msg, re need to reestablish an account if had one before but d/n recall the date of change ? Bugs
  15. Personally still use a "Green Mountain" bag, in part due to the lifetime warranty but a friend who shoots markedly more than I do hs the Dillon "modular" style with the current MilSpec type web ladders. He's not happy with it at all, yet will probably use it until it fails in tatters ! A major problem is the outside pockets really pull on & distort the body of the main bag if there is any weight in them at all. Appears as if it's "Over" Wide & therefor almost to bulky to Mule around or get thru doorways without cursing....
  16. Own previous Kydex was not B/T but 5+ years with R/T for 1911's & a G-34 are similar to the above. FWIW, gave up on B/T 10 yrs. ago...
  17. "Do your local clubs ... require that the muzzle be level with the ground at all times even during reloads, etc ?" The short ans. is a resounding YES, but they try to give the shooter as much slack as possible, if one flaunts it, they're DONE, plain & simple as that ! While old ideas and behaviors die hard, it's not that difficult to modify ones speed-load if a bit of work is put into it. Also, if everyone has to conform to the same Safety standards, then it should be impossible to gain a significant advantage. However the muzzle not elevating above the horizontal is the one rule that is the most difficult for shooters to manage well & with consistency. As far as USPSA or IDPA HQ making demands on the host Club their position is one of: "If you don't like the way things are here, you can shoot somewhere else." The Clubs attorney spells it out long the lines of: "Nothing is to leave the club grounds thru the air..." Holds true for all/any Match held there, not just IDPA. Reason being they are in an area that wasn't that populated back in the early post-war years but has grown up to literally surround their host Gun Club. Another reason is that this Club has the only 25 yard indoor range for hundreds of miles around {exception is one Commercial Range} so they are able to shoot year-round, even in very cold weather. They don't take kindly to unnecessary damage to their various ranges or there members, but the main problem is punching a round thru the roof. It's quite true that most all the damage comes from casual use of their ranges by new or less -skilled newer members {who had even found a way to shoot thru a very small section of the rear wall} which by the way has proven quite a problem since the last National elections, given the type of citizen that is now more likely to purchase a handgun, fully expecting someone to teach them how to use it or that the whole business of owning a "weapon" is a piece of cake or some contrivance to take to the range on Sunday and just Blast away at targets with no regard or understanding of a backstop or what's behind their target, etc.
  18. Have been happy with Ready Tactical thru CPWSA, for the last 5 years or so, for both USPSA Production & IDPA SSP/ESP/CDP use with G34 & various 1911 SS guns.
  19. Dave, The OEM front on own RR became loose so looked int F/OP replacements, etc. Turns out Chuck makes his D-Tail cuts markedly "longer" than any of the std. cuts. Am only going on own personal gun which is "old" for a RR, may have changed since ? Wound up calling them direct to discuss, Chuck Larson offered to replace the sight on "Good Faith" and had me send in the slide which was returend promptly & at no cost to boot ! Chuck is one of the best guys in the Biz, juding from his willingness to spend time on the phone and really can put out definitive info with no ego ! Would provide the cut specs. from mine but not at home at the moment, will look for same this eveing. Gary
  20. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How long ago was that?
  21. "The L.S. lightweight steel striker.... Don't you think this is better than the titanium ....have any problem with a lighter steel striker shooting only factory loads / 115gr.(fmj&jhp)?" ~~~~~~~~~~~ Only FIWW, Have used the LW Steel Kolene Nitride striker in a 34 with Wolff 4 Lb. spring, for over 35K+ rounds without any problems, especially the "tip". Certainly can't say that about their Ti striker or any of the other Ti strikers have tried for markedly less rounds & time! As far as problems with factory loads and the LW steel striker, it very probably hinges on the striker spring used and the particular OEM primer used by the factory ammo.
  22. What does "r/r" stand for? The only thing that occurs - after some thought - is "remove and replace". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And.......That thought, is.....correct!
  23. "Has anyone here ever added to the sides of the Glock frame to make it more rounded?... The flat sided Glocks just don't fit me well. I saw a picture of a Glock on glocktalk with what looked like CZ grips added to the side...was wondering if anyone here had done anything like that." ~~~~~~~~~~~ Only FWIW: The fellow that makes "Carbon Creations" grips used to make thin CF panels for Glocks having subdued thumb-rests on them. They only followed the OEM texturing of the flat on the side of the grip. His instructions only called for two drops of "Crazy Glue" to hold them on but probably was done so they also could be removed fairly easily?
  24. "I'm wondering, what kind of mileage others are getting from them and is failure in any way predictable by round count? Of course, I don't know for sure that the spring has weakened..." ~~~~~~~~~~~ Have never {dared} used any other than Feds or WIN primers with the Wolff 4 Lb. spring and a lightened steel striker. What have heard and adhered to is r/r at ca. 5K rounds. However, what I DO know is a scuffed-up channel liner interior and/or firing-residue, tiny brass chips, etc. packed up behind the breech-face can have a negative and worse yet intermittent effect on seemingly "Phantom" or occasional "Light-Strikes". FWIW, have dug out a lot of crap from behind the breech-face via the "Debris" hole in the bottom of the slide with a stiff bent wire. Usually r/r the channel-liner once per {Summer} season also.....
