uscbigdawg
carinab, I have to agree. She's a great woman and friend and my life is exponentially better for having her in my life. To all, You are a great group of folks. We've had our agreements, disagreements and who knows what else. God Bless each and every one of you and know that there is at least one soldier that is proud to be going to work for you. Keep up the great little slice of the world that Brian and all of you have helped create and will see/chat with you as soon as physically possible. I'm leaving for the hotel now and won't be anywhere near a computer for about 3 months (that's probably a good thing...the more I think about it). Again...God Bless you and God Bless America! uscbigdawg
Hooah! Back home for two weeks on Christmas Exodus. Got to love the Army. Just when you're FINALLY climatized to the hell that is Lawton, Oklahoma in December, you're sent home for two weeks, before entering Blue Phase. Oh well...it'll make the last 18 days of training interesting (as if the final 6 Day FTX needs any help...sheesh!). Lots of experiences, lots of arguments and fights; some involving blankets and most not (y'all know what I mean). All in all a great time. Totally choked on BRM and am suffering with my pathetic Sharpshooter score for the next 6 months (can I please install my JP trigger?). Otherwise, the Army diet does work, and training is a breeze. The last week was hectic and I haven't slept in the last day and a half. Land Nav on Monday, Hand Grenades on Tuesday, ITT on Wednesday/Thursday (including Night Infiltration Course Thursday night getting us back to the barracks at 2300) and finishing the week with our Final APFT (yep...take your PT test...graduation requirement...after that week...SUCKED!). Passed everything with flying colors. Fall back into training in two weeks with US Weapons (I'm already getting excited about the SAW!!!) and more road marching (yes I'm being sarcastic). Thank you so much for the support. There were 5-6 of us traveling back to California from Ft. Sill and we were shown love and support the whole way. God Bless each and every one of you, have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year. I wish I could make the SMM3G this year, but will be "suffering" at Ft. Sam for AIT (suffering = 5:1 female to male ratio at Ft. Sam...HOOAH!). I'm going to try and make a match or two while at home, so if y'all are out on the range, please say hey as I've missed EVERYONE! D.Hayden
but will be "suffering" at Ft. Sam for AIT Welcome home, maybe you'll come to the match tomorrow? I hope Ft Sam has shaped up, when I was there it was very crime ridden, I suppose because it was (then at least) an open post, you'd go to class and your locker would be broken into... take care of your stuff! John Dunn
Are you going 91B at Ft. Sam? I did AIT there in '88, had a good time. It provided the final motivation for med school. Kick @ss, and thank you! Say hi to the Alamo for me.
uscbigdawg
Berkim, Was going to try and make Richmond but quickly became educated in the warmth and comfort that is my bed and the lack of a mandatory 5am wake up call on Sundays. Sweeeeet!!! I'll make NCPS this Sunday though. Gotta load some ammo. Thank goodness for the 1050. twix, My rack grade M-16 was a POS (to be VERY, VERY nice) and with it's 8# trigger, didn't make for a whole lot of accurate shooting. At 25 yards, I had them within a .25 MOA of each other on a 4 shot group. However, at distance (50-300m) it was me and the gods of Kentucky Windage. From the foxhole I think the score was like 13 out of 20. From the prone unsupported, 17-20. Go figure for a sworn Open shooter to do better prone with iron sights and no bi-pod than standing with sandbags. Weird. 300m was easy. 175-250, I was getting the rear march from the neighbor's dog. John, Officially, 91W-10P = Airborne Medical Specialist. Basically a medic that's too stupid to stay inside of a plane. Odds are that I will be stationed at Bragg (82nd Airborne), Campbell (101st Airborne) or Italy (173rd?). However, Ft. Lewis and Ft. Irwin are on my "wish list". Ft. Sam should be fun. The margaritas and senoritas should make this California boy feel at home. Hooah! Thanks again for all the support and hope to see y'all soon. SPC Richard A. uscbigdawg
So, alive and well in San Antonio, Texas. The weather is exponentially better than Oklahoma. Yet another state on the list of ones I really never need to visit again. I'm sure it's a beautiful place to live, but Lawton/Fort Sill have a sore spot in this kid's heart for some time. Fort Sam and my Combat Medic training are going well. They quickly clarified to people that thought they were signing up to be a "Health Care Specialist" that what they signed up for was to be a Combat Medic (HOOAH!). Rapid trauma assessments, rapid treatment and transport (including Medi-Vac in Strykers and Blackhawks....Oh HELL YEAH!) are just some of the goodies on our training schedule. I really miss you all and this forum. So much so that it's tough to detail. The Army is starting to dish out liberties though, so hopefully I'll be on more frequently and chat the best folks in the world. Until later...peace and hair grease! SPC Richard A. uscbigdawg
Hey y'all, Things are great in San Antonio, but it is getting warmer. Just finished a lot of our needle and invasive procedures. Be aware...I'm packing a Combitube!!! Got a request for the super discount seekers out there. I'm looking to pick up a Blackhawk Special Operations Medical Backpack and while I'll probably get issued one when I get to my unit (a meer 10 weeks to go (including repeating Airborne school ! Woohoo!!!), I'm trying to get one in case they issue me one of the crappy old WWII bags as well as get used to carrying the extra 40# of gear on top of my normal ruck sack. So, if someone knows where I can get one at a smokin' (a.k.a. soldier's wage) price, please e-mail ASAP! If it helps, I can probably get 5-10 people to get them too. Oh...if you know where I can buy Curlex that'd be great too. Other than that, word is that we're all deploying (300 medics in my Company alone) before the end of the year. So....I'll be packing sunblock. Looking forward to it though. God Bless and Happy Easter! SPC Richard A. White C-Co, 232nd Med Bn 3rd PLT (Wolverines!) Fort Sam Houston, TX (Home of the Combat Medic! uscbigdawg
Hey Nelson, Believe me...she reminds me every day how high speed the Navy/Marines are compared to the Army. Blah, blah, blah.... It wouldn't be so bad, but she max's the Army Physical Fitness Test in all three events and attributes it all to her naval time. Just can't win. Luckily, she is all about a military wedding (not coming any time soon mind you... ) and it's been made clear that it would be an ARMY wedding, with saber tunnel and associated entrance traditions into the Army for the bride (i.e. swatting via a saber ). So...if it happens, I'll get my way . Thanks for the support! God Bless! SPC Richard A. White C-Co, 232nd Med Bn 3rd PLT (Wolverines!) Fort Sam Houston, TX (Home of the Combat Medic! Hooah!!!) uscbigdawg
[insert Happy Dance Here!!!] Got my orders for my permanent duty station (for this week...knowing the Army it might change ). Got what I wanted. 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. WOOHOO!!!! So, for those in the greater Fayetteville area, I'll be reporting in early July (good Lord...IPSC in the south in July = HUMIDITY!). Got to get squared away quickly on a place to load ammo and store firearms (I think I have the latter worked out though). Gotta hit up Mr. Lamb for some extra training too. I leave Fort Sam on 17 MAY and then report to Fort Benning for Jump School (Hooah!). Probably 4-5 weeks there and I'm at Bragg. Hooah!!! Y'all keep me motivated and know that the soldiers really, really, really appreciate your gratitude. Take care & God Bless You! SPC Richard A. White C-Co, 232nd Med Bn 3rd PLT (Wolverines!)
