How to or what to use....

I'm getting quite tired of this. I work out of the country a lot, and almost everytime I come home, my CZ mags have surface rust on them. I've tried silicone spray, oils, keeping them in a Ziploc baggy, nothing seems to work. They will rust in one day.... I've thought about sending them off to get them atranite coated, or some other coating, but I don't want to get them back and have nothing but paper weights..... So, what do you guys use or do?

VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) products can be your best friend in your fight against corrosion in Florida.

If you google VCI bags or chips or wrap you'll get a bunch of hits.

McMaster Carr has good prices on bag:

Or you could go the chip route, they also work great in an enclosed area like a safe. The fishing and boat guys like products like this:

Good Luck!

If I don't do anything, mine will rust the day after being used in a match. All I do is wipe them down with a silicon cloth and put them in the safe with the gun. They don't rust if I do that.

Sorry Grumpy, I know you said you tried that, but I don't have any issues as long as I do that.

Hard Chrome. I have some 12 year old tubes that still look and work great. I tend to shoot where it is dry, but I live very close to the Pacific and have never had even a hint of rust. Some of the other CVD or PVD coatings should work also, but I know hard chrome holds up!

Later,

Chuck

It doesn't help that I literally live in the middle of a swamp. I was just trying to mow the yard and my lawnmower bogged down and got stuck in the side of the yard. I won't even try the back yard, with all the rain we've been getting.

Black T

Expand on that?

Just give them a call and ask to speak to Wally.

Phone: 601 939-7448

Their prices have always been flexible. You can send them your tubes to be coated and you will never have rust again. I have them coat all of my firearms. Even in Mississippi where humidity in the summer stays around 90% I have never had rust. I sweat all over my carry guns and just wipe them off with a towel. I use dawn and water to clean everything but the barrel.

Sounds promising....
