Kids that think they know everything.

I have been raising my Girlfriend's two kids for the past 8 years. Her oldest daughter is 14 going on 30. The kid has an answer for everything and is constantly in trouble despite our best efforts to curb any ill behavior. The laundry list of things she has done would rival the best of them. No matter what we do, we can't get through to her.

What gives with kids these days?

You sound like every generation before you. Now get off my lawn!

Now you know why anyone under the age of 21 has been banned from Mastermind / Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It seems they know everything, if you are not sure, just ask the little boogers.

BTW, I am with PopnFresh, except bigger tube sock more hamsters.

buy her a few hamsters they will help her learn responsibility.

every time she's irresponsible put the hamsters in a tube sock and smack the &$*^ out of her with it.

Funniest thing I've read all week.

I still tell people it's amazing how much my Dad learned while I was in college...

When I was seven my father knew everything.

When I was fourteen he was the dumbest SOB I knew.

When I was twentyone I couldn't beleive what he had learned in seven short years.

Probably nothing different from when we were moody, whiny, little ill-behaved monsters....

....but having raised one, I hate it for you too....

Just be patient -- you'll like her much more when she's 25....

I know the hate forum isn't supposed to become a discussion forum, but I'll toss my two cents worth into the mix for a moderator reminds of the rules. I taught grades 8-12 for 32 years. I used to subscribe to the theory that each "older" generation has bemoaned the fact that subsequent generations just don't "get it" for whatever reasons. Of course, this has been going on since the time of Adam and Eve. As I reflect on the last 30 plus years of my career, I can tell you for a fact the kids of today (nexters) have substantially different needs, desires, wants, and attitudes toward society than previous generations. Heck, we now have the "Y" generation teaching the "nexter generation".

Social psychologists and motivational speakers are making a fortune trying to educate my generation (X) about how to deal with the "nexter" generation. Thinking kids of today will out grow their teen years to become productive members of the society we (us old farts) once knew just isn't going to happen.

Where's her father at? Is it possible she acts out to ya'll because she's upset about that situation?

Her father lives in town. He's a deadbeat. She hates him but, she apparently hates me even more! Apparently, she hates everyone!?

Patience is something I am running out of. The Kid is smoking weed & herbal incense. She stole her (former)friends car two weeks ago. Snuck out two nights ago to meet her little boyfriend (thankfully I caught on and caught her before anything could go down) and she has admitted to having sex. It is driving me up the wall. The kid has no respect for anyone or anything. Her mother and I are good and decent people. I am pretty cut & dry and don't take any BS. Mom on the other hand is far too soft to be effective.

I was raised with a Chief of Police and a Schoolteacher, I would have never, ever, ever dreamed of doing the stuff this kid does. And if I did, I would be put in "time out" meaning: I would be healing in the hospital from the all out asswhoopin' I would have received if I did even a fraction of what this kid does.

Do yourself a BIG favor, think hard about getting out of your relationship with this girl and her mom. Yes, the mom could be your wife some day but she will ALWAYS be the girls mother. Once you marry this woman you are locked in to this trouble unless you spend a bunch of $$$ to get out and start your life over again. Soon you will be spending money on lawyers, drug rehab and a host of other expensive things that will not correct the problem just make the mom feel better because she is doing something to supposedly help her daughter. You will never be allowed to act as her father no matter how well your intentions are but you will be paying for her actions as if you were her father.

Been there, done that,

Pat

If her mother is soft as you stated get out now. The kid will be the end of your relationship with her mother. You will be the one who is wrong and mom will take sides with her daughter. Remember the old saying blood is thicker than water. Been there done that you will never win in a situation like this. Save yourself a lot of trouble and part ways as friends now. Good luck I know what you are going through.

Don't worry, it'll all look like fun and games once she starts claiming you've been molesting her.

I'm about 20 years out form high school, and during the middle school/HS years, I knew girls who did the above (one to stepdad, one to a teacher), woke up with the corpse of their boyfriend due to too much heroine use (about 15yo at the time), faked a kidnapping to skip school and perpetuated the lie to the point of FBI involvement, charges, conviction, and eventual jail time, made self-made kidddie porn with her friends without even the help of the internet, and one who was soliciting the murder of her father. All different girls, all middle class kids in a neighborhood without particularly bad crime and reasonable income levels. So it can get a heck of a lot worse. There's nothing that special about the current crop except the internet permits them to be lazier than any teenager before them and put stupid ideas within a a closer reach than ever before.

Whoever is making bucks trying to teach people how to coddle them are hucksters IMO. The reality is the smart motivated ones are scary smart because they have access to a buttload of information as fast as they can consume it. The ones that need remedial life classes will be learning the lesson that old farts can be wedged into the top of the pyramid for 20-30 years before they have to leave. We can skip rewarding a generation with progress, heck, we probably will even if you DO deserve to advance.

I was shacking up with a gal who had a teenage daughter. Turns out she was diagnosed with bipolar or manic depressive (whatever the current envogue term is now. Sorry, don't have my DSM handy.)

I had this habit of using the top of the microwave as my landing pad for my wallet, keys, pocket knife, etc. When i got back "home" from work.

There were a couple of times i would head out to lunch from work, get the bill, open my wallet start flipping through it..."MOTHER______! I thought i had another twenty dollar bill here."

It happened enough that i told the mom about it. "OH! NO! My little angel would never do that.".

"Huh!". I thought to myself...the gears started turning. Mom confronted daughter about it. Daughter looked me straight in the eye and lied about it.

"HUH!". Gears turned a little bit more. "if she can lie about that and mom flies cover for her, what else could daughter lie about?!" :surprise:

There was a "good" point in the relationship to bail, so i punched out. Never looked back.

A few months later, mom called me up to tell me that daughter admitted that she had stolen from me.

Daughter ended up getting caught smoking pot on school grounds. On school grounds??? How dumb is that?
