Aircooled6racer
Hello: I hope to be back home in Albuquerque in the next day or two. I have to test my open pistol since I have not shot it in over 2 weeks. It should be a great match even if it has a little smoke. Thanks, Eric
TaterHead
Eric, That is what a major match is for: Testing your gun.
NMBOpen
Competitors traveling south on I-25 from Colorado should be prepared for a detour due to a wildfire closing I-25 between Raton, NM and Trinidad, CO. Posted detour is US160 east from Trinidad, then CO389 south to Branson,CO, on to Folsom, NM and NM 325 to US64, then west to Raton. Another route would be Walsenburg-Alamosa-Santa Fe. TaterHead
The smoke has been clear for the last few days, thanks to a basically north breeze that keeps it away. Forecast is for a shift to SW breeze (our norm) that may bring it back. Match for Sat looks like SW breeze. Sun looks like SW (maybe West) wind. We call a breeze about 20 mph, a wind anything over 35. Shooters must all work to keep their squads moving. If you fall behind by a stage on Saturday, you could well be shooting in a sand blast when the wind comes up Sunday around noon. Hot, Hot, Hot. Water, Water, Water. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen. thx Edited June 16, 2011 by TaterHead
JohnRodriguez
Are we going to try and shoot as many stages on saturday as possible or are we going to stick to a set number?
Aircooled6racer
Hello: I just got back and the gun works It is hot here and you must drink lots of water. I suggest at least one bottle of water per stage. I would also suggest some kind of snack or fruit to eat. It should be a great match as long as you use sunscreen. Thanks, Eric
Pat Miles
There will be water on the stages but plan on bringing you own! As Eric said, bring fruits and energy snacks as well as sunscreen! HYDRATE OR DIE! Pat
TaterHead
Staff finished first day of shooting today. There were breezes, but nothing remarkable. Forecast is for similar breezes Friday and Saturday, and real wind comimg in Sunday around noon. Smoke from the Arizona fires appears to be south of here for now. I've said it before, and will say it again: The squads must keep themselves moving. If you get behind, and do not shoot 7 stages as scheduled on Saturday, then you will most likely be shooting in a sandstorm on Sunday on your last stage. Winds this late in June are very unusual here, but it is what it is. We deal with it. Heat, and very, very dry continues. When the relative humidity is about 5-10%, we can't get much drier than that. It just sucks the moisture right out of you. I'm guessing I drank about 1.5 gallons today. We call it the High Desert.

fastmtnbiker33w
I traveled up from El Paso last week and the haze in the Burq was nasty. I was in Los Alamos last weekend and it wasn't too bad. I'm just north of Albuquerque right now and it's been nice other than hot. From the facebook posts and El Paso Times articles, it sounds like El Paso got it really bad with a dust storm and the smoke. Southern Arizona is on fire as well with a big fire wrapping up in the Chiruacuas and a really big one in the Huachucas which forced evacuations in Sierra Vista. A breeze from the southwest could easily inundate Albuquerque. If you have asthma, bring your meds and keep them on you. It's like what they told me when I used to do asbestos work, "It's what you can't see that will kill you." I hope I shoot ok. It's been over a week since I've practiced and too much mountain biking has my upper back all jacked up and I've got a pinched nerve in my arm. If you see me poppin' pills, it's just Ibuprofin. Getting old sucks.
TaterHead
Are we going to try and shoot as many stages on saturday as possible or are we going to stick to a set number? We only want to shoot 7 stages on Saturday. It would be good to try to do more, but if we do, and some squads are at 8, and others are at 7, then we end up with a mess that is likely self-defeating. If all squads get in 7 on Saturday, then we should be fine. If a squad only gets in 6 on Saturday, then the sand blast on Sunday on their last stage may well be thier own creation. It is the squad's responsibility to work and keep on schedule.

fastmtnbiker33w
Aaahh. The windswept high desert. I'm settled in at the rv park behind the camping world. It's windy. Skies look a bit hazy. Gonna head over to the range, get registered, and check out stage 1, 8 and 9. Those are the ones I'm freakin' over. Can't wait to see them for real. Tired of studying the printed diagrams. .....and Tylenol is working better than Ibuprofin. Is anyone else RV camping? Enchanted trails has a pool and is cheaper than what they quoted me on the phone. It's a dust pit, but I'm used to dirtbagging in the national forest all summer. 30 amp hookups allow me to run every light and appliance with the AC on high! TaterHead
If you did not get the word at registration, the far city gate opens at 6:30 am. Shooter meeting on the west end at 7:30. You'll here the dinner bell call. Rounds down range at 8 am. Have fun, be safe. Do not shoot yourself or anyone else while at the range.
