2011 High Desert Classic at Albuquerque

The stages are now USPSA approved and will be posted by Tom in the next few weeks.

The HDC Design Team hopes you find them challenging and fun. Remember, there may be some minor changes...

As you may know by now, we sold out the match way early. We regret that some of you who wanted to participate are now on the waiting list.

We still need RO's for the match. We wish to have dedicated RO's for each stage. We use the (no-brainer) StageScore Palm system. If you are on the wait list (or not), or have not yet registered and wish to help, please PM me. Match is free, shirt is free, two awesome lunches are free, and you get to feel really great about contrbuting!

Thx

Well, the match just over 2 weeks out.

I make this post for those of you who do not know "high desert". At 5000 feet plus, El Sol will roast you, before you even know you are being roasted. Sun screen is mandatory, just as mandatory as eyes and ears.

El Sol will also dry you out before you even know you are being dried out. Drink water. Lots. Start drinking water before you even leave the hotel. Don't stop drinking water. There will be plenty at each stage. Bring Gatorade; that helps.

Finally, the 5k+ altitude can be a problem for some coming from the low country. Be aware of fatigue, maybe even dizziness. A day or two here before the match will help alleviate the altitude issue. For most, this is not a problem. Going from sea level to 10,000 feet is most always a problem.

Have fun, cya then.

We were there last year and had a great time. Keep your vehicle handy, you will need it. Also plan on 3-4 times as much water as you were thinking about unless you are from that area. The wind and the sun will dry you out. Also be prepared to meet some of the nicest people in the world.

thanks,

George

Looks like there is one slot left! Come on folks fill it up, this is a great match put on by some great folks. I've been shooting this since they started and they get better every year.

I posted a similar response today in "What I Hate", but thought it really needed to be in this forum. The subject is the Arizona, now also the New Mexico, Wallow fire. It's about 150 miles southwest of Albuquerque, and we have had a good deal of smoke from it. Here is my response on how it will impact the match next weekend:

I don't see it impacting the match unless it gets really bad smoke and one has a lung issue. We will shoot. The density of the haze really depends upon the wind direction. We've been doing setup the last two days. Saturday was hazy towards the mountains, but you could not smell smoke. Today, in the morning, you could see the haze rolling up the Rio Grande valley. By afternoon, the wind shifted out of the south, and it cleared up.

It really just depends upon the wind direction as to whether the smoke gets here, and it's intensity. Southwest wind brings the smoke here, but a few degrees south or north makes all the difference as to where it goes. I don't see them containing that monster in the next week. It may take the monsoon season in early July to tame it.

Albuquerue is known for it's blue sky and 75 mile views; don't plan on that this time. Good news is the extended wind forecast is light winds, but the direction can change hourly.

cya in a few days.....

ALCON,

Looking to play some cards while im up there FRI night or SAT after the shoot. If anyone wants to play let me know. There are several casinos in the area. We can throw cards and talk guns....better than basketball at the table.

send me a message
