Leftylivesmatter
While shooting USPSA matches I notice that the feedramp of my STI Edge gets a lot of build up on it. I usually leave a light coating of oil on the ramp. Is it best to leave it dry?

astephenson
I've never oiled the feedramp on any gun. You'll get buildup regardless.
Leftylivesmatter
Thanks for the info. I have the NC Sectional this weekend and I will give it a real test. How about cleaning during a long match?

Sean Gaines
just clean it, so that you can see the mirror finish, no need to oil
G-ManBart
Thanks for the info. I have the NC Sectional this weekend and I will give it a real test. How about cleaning during a long match? No need or utility to oil on the feedramp. The only time I clean during along match (multi-day) is if it's either been really windy/dusty and the gun got coated, or it was raining and I want to dry it out. Other than that, if your gun can't go a full match (say 3-500 rounds) without cleaning, something is wrong. R,
rgkeller
Nothing wrong with sticking your finger wrapped in a clean rag and rubbing that feedramp shiny during a match.

I clean my 1911 once every year (I only get to shoot around 5k per year though). It gets a little oil on the rails a couple of times in between, that's all. Aircooled6racer
Hello: I leave it dry but I do clean my pistols after each outing. That way I can check how things are fitting and make sure nothing is starting to break or wear. That way when there is a problem I know it is me that is causing the problem Thanks, Eric
BigGabe
I run mine dry also. Never seen a need for oil on it. You would be better off just putting a mirror finish on the feed ramp with a cratex polishing wheel and a dremel.
blind bat
+1 to the G-Man as usual. The less I clean the less exposure I have to harsh chemicals and lead.
Pat Miles
calls for dremel and polish the sh%$%$## out of it!! Polish only... don't remove any metal, don't change any angles, don't blend any edges. Pat
BlueOvalBruin
Unless you have some burrs polishing the feedramp isn't going to do anything for you. The feedramp is self cleaning, whatever crud forms on the feedramp during firing will be wiped away by the next bullet being fed. The center of the feedramps on my 1911 and glocks are always clean no matter how many rounds I've put through them.
Leftylivesmatter
Tested dry feedramp this past weekend in USPSA N.C. Sectional shooting 200+ rounds. Won my class. Dry works for me! Thanks for everyone's feedback.

GuyC
What are you shooting lead or jacketed. I seem to get failures around 250 rounds with lead.
duramaxtech
Shinny and dry! Like others have said polish the heck out of it! Lots of things folks oil don't need it or they use the wrong oil!
BMartens
Some old bullseye shooters would put a drop of oil on the nose of the first bullet in each mag before shooting a leg. May be more of a ritual than a improvement to feeding. Probably won't hurt anything.

tunakilla
Dry on the ramp, as far as cleaning during a match. Well a gun should be able to run for a multi-day match, and I was laughing at my roommate at the 1994 Nationals because he was cleaning his gun every day back at the hotel. Stopped laughing when i noticed his firing pin stop was missing the bottom half. So it does not hurt to give it a wipe/oil during a match plus it gives you a chance to check things out.
