  1. I use an M2inc ratchet also. It works great. To fix the bunching issue, I cut my inner belt and attached a flexible piece of fishing rod strap (like seat belt material) to it. I position the flexible part where the ratchet strap in the outer belt is and then it just folds and doesn't bother me.
  2. Be careful and test any aftermarket hammer with your stock bolt carrier before putting the hammer in the rifle. The stock Armalite bolt carrier hammer slot on my AR10 is considerably narrower than an AR15 or DPMS pattern AR10. Stock Armalite hammers are narrower than anything else and other hammers will often bind in the stock Armalite carrier. A quick check with a set of calipers will save a lot of trouble. Hurley
  3. I have an Armalite AR10 20” rifle And a n Aero Precision AR10 that is a DPMS/SR25 pattern rifle. I don’t know about lightening the original bolt carrier, but a JP low mass bolt carrier group is 4.5 ounces lighter than a stock bolt carrier group. The JP carrier has twice the bearing surface of a stock unit, most likely for the increased velocity that the lightened carrier will experience. The JP bolt carrier group is a DPMS pattern. I replaced my entire bolt carrier group with a DPMS pattern unit. I verified headspace and have had no issues. You have to be careful when swapping parts in an Armalite as there are some differences. If you are going to swap bolt carriers, be sure to swap the entire group, do not mix and match parts (ex; bolt, firing pin, etc.) between the two patterns. Hurley
  4. I have a 20" stainless Criterion on mine (iron sight rifle), it is not super heavy and shoots well with 155 Amax. It shoots good with most everything I have ran through it, but really likes 155 Amax. I had problems with two Brownells bolts and headspace, Brownells took both of them back. Both of them were too tight, would not close on a "Go" gauge. They were dimensionally different in different places. I have one Brownells bolt that will headspace in that rifle and my Armalite, I keep it for a spare. The rifle has a JP LMOS carrier and JP bolt, no problems with headspace. The JP bolt is so much smoother locking and unlocking than any of the other bolts have been. Hurley
  5. Brownells is showing out of stock, but for a few dollars more, Chris at CPWSA has them in stock. Hurley
  6. Glad to know that y'all's are working good. Mine just arrived this morning, I installed it and it feels really good! I am anxious to get to the range and really try it out. Hurley
  7. I have a RA140 in a 5.56 carbine. I had trouble at first with reset. Mainly while hand cycling. I contacted Rise and they sent a sketch of where they wanted me to file on the disconnector. They said it would not affect the warranty. I filed like they said and have not had any issues since (3-4K rounds since). It is definately better than mil-spec, but not as good as a JP from JP or Hyperfire, in my opinion. Hurley
  8. If it is like the one that I had, the ported part is just the choke, you can unscrew the choke and screw in a regular IC or LM and be good to go. After the match, put your breacher choke back in if you want. Hurley
  9. I would post about my shotgun's reliability, but you know what they say about bragging on dogs, guns and youngins, as soon as you do they will let you down. Hurley
  10. I am not a big adjustable stock guy, I like a plain old A2 or Magpul rifle stock. A lot is going to depend on your body structure and your personal preference. I did build a carbine for my wife and daughter, an adjustable stock was a necessity on it and weight was a factor. I put a Mission First Tactical stock on it and I like it (thankfully, the girls like it too). It locks up tight with no play at all. Hurley
  11. I suppose that it can, but I have shot several in other people's rifles and only one came close to feeling like the factory ones. It was put in by a do it yourself guy that followed the instructions and said he had many hours of time fitting it. Hurley
  12. I have or have had Giessle, Hyperfire 3 gun, AR Gold, Wilson Combat 3 gun, polished up mil spec with JP springs, JP triggers done by JP and a Timney in an AR10. Of all the ones mentioned, the JP triggers in my CTR-02s are my preference. The break is very crisp and the reset is short. The one that I liked the least was the AR Gold. I just didn't like the way it felt. I like the feel of the Timney in the AR10, but I just put it in (prize table pickup from Blueridge, took the Wilson out of the AR10 and put it in a carbine for my daughter) and don't have enough rounds to know if it will be reliable yet. Hurley
  13. I like jam nuts. I like to remove the comp and clean the crown periodically, with a jam nut, I can use witness marks to put the comp and nut back in the same place with the same tension. Jam nuts are not as pretty as a crush washer or a timed comp. Hurley
  14. I like 20" government profile barrels with a 15" hand guard. My JP CTR-02s both have light contour 18" barrels (because a JP 20"light contour is a custom profile, he only does them occasionally and one person buys them all). I have never been in a situation where I thought my rifle was too long. I have also had my butt kicked in a shoot house by an old man with a full length M14, so it really is what you prefer and get used to. Hurley
  15. I have used a Blackhawk Serpa that I modified the release on for the last 12 years. I had to do a little grinding and fitting with a heat gun to get my STI Eagle to fit in it properly. Now it works with my 1911 and 2011. I have crawled through pipes, hung upside down on ropes at BRM3g, got into and out of vehicles, used it with slung long guns and many other challenges in some very physical matches. Never had a problem or even worried about losing my pistol. Hurley
  16. If you are willing to try a couple more rounds, chrono it and see how fast it is. I don't know that I would push my luck though. If you have a bunch of it, you could pull the bullets and reload with a reduced powder charge. Hurley
  17. Some major matches impose a different time value on FTE based on distance. For example, a 10 second penalty if the target is <100yds, 15 seconds from 100 to <200 and 20 or 30 seconds for targets 200 or farther. That has worked well at many matches. Hurley
  18. Rifle length gas, shoots soft, easier on parts and reliable. Agree with Caspian Guy on 16" guns, for broader operating window, I would go with a midlength gas. Hurley
  19. The trend around my area is to avoid all of the different divisions and just have Open matches. It is run what you brung, trophies for 1-3 or 1-5, depending on the match, and high mil, high leo, high junior and high lady. That is much simpler for a match director to manage and score. It has not really been an equipment race either. Some people use their open pistols, but a lot have carry optic pistols and regular limited minor pistols. I have not seen a tank brake on a rifle yet, but several use bags or bipods. Most matches are 2 gun, (carbine and pistol), but there will be a 3 gun every now and then. Hurley
  20. Troy makes a set of offset folding sights. I have a brand new set that I picked up in a prize table bag that I don't need. PM me if you are interested, I would make a deal on them. Hurley
  21. A few years back I was having slide stop issues on my Wilson CQB. With Wilson 10 rd magazines, on the last round the slide would hit the top of the magazine follower and it would be precisely when the slide stop was in line with the take down notch. The slide stop was just big enough on the back side that the mag follower would touch it and send it out through the take down notch and it would hang outside of the gun. Due to follower design, this would not happen with 8 round magazines. I called Wilson asking to buy a new slide stop in grey to match my frame (I purchased the gun used). The guy at Wilson was really nice and asked why I needed to replace the slide stop, so I told him what was going on. He insisted that I send the gun back, I argued that it only needed a new slide stop. He said that Wilson was embarrassed that I was having a problem and they needed the gun back to fix it and make sure nothing else was wrong. They paid shipping both ways, had the gun back to me in less than two weeks and threw 3 new mags in with it when they sent it back. It has not had that problem since. They really stand behind their products, I wish more people did business like many gun and shooting companies do. Hurley
  22. Good points for sure. I would love to see IPSC rifle come to the states, maybe we could get more than 5 or 6 people interested in shooting iron sights again. BTW, congratulations on your teams performance at IPSC rifle world shoot a couple of months ago! Hurley
  23. I have ran a 24" Nova since 2010. It is stock except for an additional fiber bead, some small smoothing of the loading port, chamfering of the mag tube entrance and a +5 Nordic tube. I also stoned the action bars and drilled a hole in the stock to allow a Proctor sling to be attached. It has been flawless in operation and is considerably easier for me to load than a Remington 870 (I grew up hunting with an 870 and still have three of them, but like the Nova much more for 3 gun). Hurley
  24. I have toyed with the idea on making an extended tube for a '97 and using one for fun in 3 gun. They are much easier to load than a Model 12. I would have to buy another one though, my '97 has a 32" full choke barrel, and I wouldn't dare cut it off. It still patterns really good, I use it for turkey shoots now. Hurley
  25. That would be fun. There used to be a rifle match in Birmingham that would allow Garands to just put one on paper to neutralize. With the CMP close by, they usually had a few guys shooting Garands. Man, will they rock an MGM flasher! Hurley
