3quartertime
The Expendables Just watched a couple of trailers; Looks to be pretty good. Lots of names; The Expendables * Sylvester Stallone as Barney "The Schizo" Ross, a paramilitary veteran and leader of the team. Originally called Frank the Repairman (was going to be tribute to his Las Vegas Character) * Jason Statham as Lee Christmas, second in command of the team. He is a former SAS soldier and expert at Close Quarters Combat using knives. * Jet Li as Bao Thao, a Vietnamese expert at hand-to-hand combat. * Dolph Lundgren as Gunnar Jensen, a Swedish sniper. Jensen hates Bao Thao and fights with him frequently. * Terry Crews as Hale Caesar, Thao's best friend and a weapons specialist. * Randy Couture as Toll Road, demolitions expert. * Mickey Rourke as Tool, a former Expendable, now an arms dealer and tattoo parlor artist/owner. * Bruce Willis as Mr. Church, the man who hires the Expendables. * Arnold Schwarzenegger as Trench, an old rival of Ross. Sly co-wrote and directed it. No doubt he can do both and well. Hopefully the action isn't so over the top that the story is lost cause several of these actors can do a lot more than play good guys bad guys... Can't wait!!! Mark K
Read some interview with Sly sometime back. He said that there is a little tongue in cheek in this movie. He wanted to get all the proto-typical action heros of the last 20 years into one movie, and make a little fun of each other. He talked about "battles" in past movies that he and Arnold made, like in one of the Arnold movies, where you see a Rambo poster - Arnold looks at it, then at his own arms, and laughs. Similar stuff in Sly's movies about Arnold. He said it was a private joke between the two of them. He wanted John Claude van Dam in it as well, but he turned it down. 3quartertime
This will be amazingly bad..... I really hope not. If you watch the extras with the latest release of the original Rocky you get the sense that Stallone can really write. I think he only co-wrote this, but I'm really hoping that he put his personality in it. From the Rocky Wiki page; Early in my acting career I realized the only way I would ever prove myself was to create my own role in my own script. On my 29th birthday, I had $106 in the bank. My best birthday present was a sudden revelation that I had to write the kind of screenplay that I personally enjoyed seeing. I relished stories of heroism, great love, dignity, and courage, dramas of people rising above their stations, taking life by the throat and not letting go until they succeeded. But I had so many ideas in my head, I couldn't focus on any one. To cheer myself up, I took the last of my entertainment money and went to see the Ali-Wepner fight on closed circuit TV. Chuck Wepner, a battling, bruising club fighter who had never made the big time, was having his shot. It wasn't at all regarded as a serious battle. But as the fight progressed, this miracle unfolded. He hung in there. People went absolutely crazy. Wepner was knocked out in the 15th and final round, almost lasting the distance. We had witnessed an incredible triumph of the human spirit and we loved it.That night, Rocky Balboa was born. People looked on him as the all-American tragedy, a man without much mentality and few social graces. But he has deep emotion and spirituality and good patriotism. And he has a good nature, although nature has not been particularly good to him. I have always seen him as a 20th Century gladiator in a pair of sneakers. Like so many of us, he is out of sync with the times. To all this, I injected doses of my own personal life, of my frustration at not getting anywhere. The rest of the Rocky movies were kind of jokes except for Rocky Balboa which I thought was a great story, but the original was a very good movie. Sly didn't direct it, but I believe he had almost absolute control of the story. Like I eluded to above this movie has enough quality actors in it to be great! Hopefully he didn't ruin it with non-stop explosions and crap. Imagine if he could steal the action style of Taken or the new Bond series and input some great dialect how awesome this could be. The last Rambo wasn't too bad, but if he does that with this opportunity it will be a shame...
3quartertime
Just found another trailer; The scene where they are having the standoff and Statham's phone goes off. "What's that? I'm gettin a text. You gotta me kidding me!" "You know the enemy's always been terrified of noise. Blam, Blam, Blam... Damn that things loud!!!" "What's he saying?, He's saying your dead with an accent!" Man I hope the best stuff isn't in the trailers!!!
mpeltier
Man I hope the best stuff isn't in the trailers!!! I am hoping the same. The all star cast, including the WCC 55 Ford F-100 and a couple others not mentioned (Randy Couture and Steve Austin) SHOULD make for a real thrill ride of a movie. I am looking forward to it, i hope we get what we are expecting.
Dan Hefta
The payrole alone must be $100,000,000.00 on a cast like this movie has, then they have to shoot the movie. This had better be good, Sly looks ripped. I am looking forward to this one too!
ken hebert
Ooooohhhhhh yeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh! I'm gonna be all over this one. Just need to figure out how to turn it into a 3-gun stage...

BoldasLions
Sly's the man. After the newest Rambo and his steroid use, his level of bad-ass seems to of increased a bit. I'm so pumped for this film!
ValleySig229
I have been waiting for a good action movie all summer. This one looks like it has potential. Did anyone catch Stallone's single action revolver?

DyNo!
I just got back - I wasn't too impressed. It was a string of continuous explosions, choppy editing, and "shaky-cam" fighting. There was only two one-liners on top of that. Edited August 14, 2010 by DyNo!
FLG8R
Disappointing to say the least. A few good moments, lots of sensless scenes, poor firearms effects... But they still got me to see it!
Charles Bond
I just got back - I wasn't too impressed. It was a string of continuous explosions, choppy editing, and "shaky-cam" fighting. There was only two one-liners on top of that. And that was exactly my experience..........BUT my wife loved it. I had told her I would take her to see the new chick flick but she wanted to see this one and she loved it. Her take was that it was fun because it was not heavy but just enteraining. I will offer the opinion that the role of Bruce Willis in the film shows just how far his star has fallen. Yes, Arnold's was a bit role too but as governor, he only had limited time and hence he was in one simple scene.

ken hebert
Story line was a little weak and predictable, but it was entertaining. And LOUD!!! Holy Mary Mother of God it was freaking loud in that theater. But Sly had some *cough* amazing reloads with a skinny gun there in the end...
