  1. Yep. At a minimum I wanted my screen name. If I could get both that would be good.
  2. At the 08 IN state match, shooting Single Stack. 4 Poppers, first one (closest in array) activated a bowling ball that rolled down a track to activate to drop turners. It was pretty quick. The first drop turner was located to the right of two other papper targets. There is video in the gallery section of this stage. I shot the 4 steel, hitting the activator first. Moved to my right shooting the two static papers. Reloaded to the drop turner, just barely beating the bowling ball. Continued moving right for two more static papers then finally the last drop turner. I could have hit the activation steel last but that would have meant a longer time, possibly waiting on the drop turner. Some just skipped both. It was a 5ish HF stage and I felt If I could hit both without much pause it would be beneficial. I would have won the stage except for a mike on one static paper. The execution was good in that I hit the reload and the dropper, I didn't focus enough on the "easy" static target however. I was 2nd on the stage and don't feel I lost the match on it. The thrill of shooting it the way I did was worth it! I'm not afraid to try something on the edge if it will make it fun. I don't practice much so the matches are my practice.
  3. I've lived and worked in REAL deserts before and I think sunday was the closest I've come to being a heat casualty. Awesome match! It was pretty cool hanging out in the club house and seeing many of the shooters I watch on TV. I wanted to watch them shoot, but couldn't afford the energy to walk 4 bays over and back...
  4. I'm at 14 in a 6" for now. Down from 18. I tried a 9 but the muzzle climbed a lot. I'm going to try a 16 and 12 as well.
  5. There a few times I've used a tac or RWR to good advantage. Nothing in the rules say I HAVE to shoot with both hands. I've done a tactical reload on the way down a wall (target out of sight), shot the last target with the magazine in my hand, hand in pocket. Just shot it SHO. Saved a shot-cover- reload-shot. Huge time savings.
  6. I wouldn't say it's "junk", but there are better sears out there...
  7. I tried some using it on a recent build. Slide was wicked slow, just didn't have enough clearance for the grease to go anywhere. Cleaned it out, applied oil, slide speed normal. Mark me down as a butter hater.
  8. Shot my third classifier saturday, this time in CDP. 89.29 My first classifier: SSP, MA Second classifier: ESP, EX For me shooting CDP is the most fun because I like my 1911 better than anything else I own. Had to get classed in CDP as I'm shooting the OH event next month and wanted to shoot CDP. Now I can't be called a bagger... A-28551
  9. Let's see, that could be Leatham, Svigny (sp) and .....Miculek?
  10. BINGO! If I earned it I'll take it, but if I didn't intentially do something gamey for an advantage I will bring it up with the MD and ask for clearification (rule interpretation). No offense to the SO/RO who made the call but I will want it from another POV. FTDR is pretty serious to me. I was discussing a different stage before shooting it earlier in the day and it's a good thing I did. I was planning on a tactical reload on the way to cover, since it was directed that I could not shoot the visible targets until behind barrel cover. If your not shooting while moving, you should be reloading while moving right? Wrong. I was informed that I could not reload while exposed to targets. My thinking was, the targets must not be a thread UNTIL I reach the barrels since I can't shoot them until I get to the barrels. The point? I probably would have been tagged with an FTDR or at least a procedural. Instead I shot it just like everyone else and reloaded from behind the barrels.
  11. I like that one, a bit long but I'm not going to be reading it so it doesn't matter right? (Elitist attitude)
  12. From Area 3, stage 12 last year.
  13. Is that a light rail on the logo gun? I think user name is cool. I mean, I never know who 'yall are when I see you. Hmmm, maybe best that way...
  14. Put want2race down for a shirt too.
  15. Missouri. I've only had smoke related issues three times. Once at KY state 3G, two others at different club matches. Stand and shoot stages with zero wind usually. The pros outway the cons for me.
  16. All I shoot is 170gr SWC, club matches, big matches, practice etc. Can't afford the pretty stuff. 4.8 of Universal Clays. OAL 1.185. I shoot the same load in a 5 as I do my 6. 168 PF in my 5 and 169 PF in the 6. Pretty accurate too. Leading in the barrel isn't bad at all (not as bad as TG) but get some pretty good carbon buildup around breach face after about 300 rounds. I clean after every match so it doesn't bother me.
  17. Tastefully Simple. Get the irony?
  18. As far as the barrel in the pic, there is nothing remarkable about it really. It was really heavy 6 inch bull barrel, now it's a much lighter barrel. The STI, KKM and Schuemann barrels have what I call a full contour. The bottom of the barrel is the same profile from chamber to muzzle. Only the top is cut to allow for lock up. This equates to a heavy barrel. For a 5 inch gun it's not terribly noticable and can be countered with a little slide lightening. With a 6 inch gun that is a lot of extra metal way out front. However, that full contour also leaves more meat to interface with the slide, providing potentially better (and longer lasting) accuracy. Also, from what I've seen so far, a smoother slide action. The benefit (over a full bull) is a lighter nose end of the gun and higher cyclic speed (benefit for some, not for all). From the radial lugs to the "cone" is .005 over the diameter of a standard bushing barrel. I'm not selling these, or trying to sell anyone on the idea (not new anyway), but since the OT was of cone barrels figured this was a good place to discuss it. The pic shows what a cone lockup barrel looks like for those that wondered.
  19. Here's a pic of what I was trying to describe. Interesting about the longevity of accuracy issue (HSMITH). I want to try one more thing to eliminate that issue.
  20. Check out Combat Handguns, Sept, 08 issue. Page 48. "Accu-Lock". "It's the most significant improvement since the 1911's original design." I won't make any comments one way or the other, but I certainly have my opinions on it. However, if he has made over 500, or if the Tru-sight counts as the same thing it should be legal right? To bad I can't do it with a 6 inch gun yet. On another note, I'm doing some personal experimentation. I took a bull barrel and turned it down to mimic the profile of a cone barrel. I noticed an increase in slide speed (further ejection) and a shift in point of impact. I wanted the slide speed, not the impact shift. I didn't do much to the lock up area (other than some flutes in non critical areas and a very light polish to deburr the flutes). I wanted to compare full bull barrel vs. lighter barrel but I'm restricted to a non-bushing set up. The main thing I don't like is how the barrel sits when the slide is to the rear. Instead of resting on the slide at the front (full BB), the cone arrangement has the barrel floating out front. The hood is pressed up against the underside of the slide with the weight of the barrel (and the lugs on the pin is the pivot point). Functionally, it's fine. I actaully prefer how the gun shoots. I have one other thing to try in regards to the barrel / slide lockup.
  21. That would be pretty cool if there was a reload involved.
  22. I wish I would have reviewed the shots. I shot a 15 round bill drill in 5.96 with a plain jane single stack. I'll give this one a shot next time out. Doing the math, I "shouldn't" be able to get under 2. My splits are .16 to .18 and my consistant draws are .95-1.05. 2.3 is where I the math puts me at. That means a sub 2 is a good personal goal. Should be fun. If I calculate my fastest draw from sunday (.78), then I can hit 1.98 with the same trigger speed. Hmmmm.
  23. Yep, good shootin. It was nice to get out and actually practice some. Some steel, or going back to the plate rack after the paper drills would have been cool. Both of our 3R3 times would have dropped a bunch. It was a good test and tune too.
  24. I had a 4.19. I wanted to go back and shoot my SS at the plate rack but ran out of ammo on paper. I'm sure I could break under 4 with my SS. Oh yeah, equipment etc... Limited 6 inch, from Kydex. A class
