  1. My 1911 didn't fail. My magazines did. Since I didn't build the mags I seperate those malfs.
  2. I could have hit the poppers at the hinge and they would have still gone down. 178PF. Not the match high though, that was 230 something PF. I did find out that 47D mag springs have a life span. I don't know what it is, but I found it. I had 3 or 4 mag related jams. Other than that, I had a pretty good time. I liked the bridge. Overall, good stages. Creative and most required movement, some required 3 mags.
  3. Actually, that is a GREAT point. I hadn't considered the "perception" point of view. Thanks
  4. Found this while searching. Melting could be considered lightening, but it's not to gain a competitive advantage.
  5. Ashland. Man, I always forget about that one. I'll see if I can make it. I'll bring the 6, 5 inch top for it and my SS. If I can shoot 3 times I'm all for it. I need some classifiers too.
  6. I went through the "adjust the slide bar" phase as well. I spent two hours adjusting it in and out trying to find the "ZEN" spot. In my situation, the bar was perfectly centered in the shell plate hole once the shell plate was fully indexed. The problem i had was that the shell plate wasn't fully indexed soon enough. The plate was still turning at the instant that the primer cup was coming up to find the hole. In and out the adjustment was perfect. My primer cup was hitting the left side of the hole. Raising the handle fast helped a little but mad loading sloppy at times. Chamfering the hole allowed the primer cup to slide up the left side and find center. My .40 shell plate was not chamfered at all (re: old). When I bought a .45 kit the .45 shell plate was already chamfered in the same way I modified my .40 plate. Seems I wasn't the only one with this issue.
  7. Take the shell plate off. Look at the underside where the primer cup comes up. It should have beveled holes (all four of them). If not, bevel them. I used a dremel. When I got a .45 caliber conversion I noticed the shell plate was already done at the factory like that. I was having problems with primers flipping. It would go into the hole but just catch on the shell plate and kick the primer up and sometimes rotate it. It acted like the shell plate was rotating too slow for the primer cup as it came up. I tried for hours to adjust the timing of it. Finally worked the underside of the holes and it now has been perfect for 4k rounds. That allen screw mentioned above did not help my problem, I tried that too.
  8. I built one just to find out the fuss as well. I haven't changed the load. Can't use fast powder (shoot lead). It weighs 36.8 but I had no weight limit in mind, just going off of how it felt. Kept taking weight off until if felt right. I run a 12# spring and like it. I'm not 100% convinced on it yet. I've only shot it in two or three matches. HSMITH knows how it runs though...smokeeeee. I've still got my 5inch upper and one day I'd like to do a back to back match test. One of our clubs (that shut down) used to run morning and afternoon. That would have been perfect. I really like the handling and sight track just not convinced on the weight that far out from my wrist.
  9. Why? For a "real" trigger for one. Glocks are for CCW, SS are for competition. I say this now but that will change as soon as my Glock is sold.
  10. Perfect timing, this thread that is. I feel that I'm in the exact same situation. My performance has been dropping off pretty steadily. Either that or my expectations are rising faster than my skill. Last IDPA I really tried to focus on just hits, not speed at all. What happened? The absolute worst performance I've ever had. I was so focused on everything but..see target...see sight...shoot... that I completely botched the match. My goal was zero points down for the match with down 5 still being acceptable. I was down 13 after the first stage. I've upped my dry fire practice to...well doing it as opposed to not doing hardly anything. I've been getting worse since I started doing that. I don't know if it's pressure to continue to perform at my expected level or what. When I don't care about the results I do better. When there is money on the line (prize table) I do much better. I shoot better amped up and when shooting club matches I don't get amped up anymore. IDPA is worse since I start my "amp up" doing air gun right before I shoot in IPSC and can't do that in IDPA. Right now I'm working on the mental issues that have been dragging my scores down. OH state IDPA is next weekend and right now my mindset is to just go with the point of "burning it down". As fast as I can possibly go. Perhaps by letting go mentally I will just "do" instead of "thinking do".
  11. I have no problem with a closed front. The trick is, don't have a gun that jams. Seriously though, I've never had a problem. My mags stick out plenty. I've had to pull out two mags that just wouldn't drop free and it was a total non-issue. I really don't like the large Techwells front "hole". The gap in the magwell for the mag base. Just ugly.
  12. You know you want to cut your frame. Don't be scarred.
  13. ...and I'm a B class in SS! No, really. Don't know if I'll get a bump before October.
  14. They can Ion Bond Aluminum. It won't make it hard though. You must Hard Ano it first (clear) then send it for Ion Bonding. Yes the coating will be hard, but not the underlying aluminum. I'm looking for a standard aluminum frame at the moment (not wide).
  15. Any of you that shoot lead exclusively had any chambering issues? My finished loads have a slight bulge where the bullet sits. I've opened up the chamber just a bit to allow a little more room but I still have a few failures to chamber using a 12.5 recoil spring. Leading is not really a problem, I clean the barrel after every match. Loaded on a SDB. I've started to chamber check everything and that sucks (wasted time). I'm getting about 5% that won't drop into the chamber. I have 5k 180 LSWC's that may end up in the classifieds. I'm just getting tired of smoke I guess.
  16. My point exactly. I'll be shooting 8 at a time. A non stacking Glock trigger is one that doesn't go bang. Hence the "he he he".
  17. You better bring your 20 round mags....oops, that's right you can't. I'm offering my trigger job services to all Glock owners! Will be the smoothest lightest trigger you've ever felt (no stack he he he).
  18. The only restriction I read in the manual is the distance away from the body and the location on the belt (behind center line for SS/Prod).
  19. Just to specify, when I pulled off the one handed shooting. I had stowed the mag, hand was fully in my pocket up to my wrist, mag was completely inside pocket. Instead of rushing to get both hands back on, I just popped off the rounds SHO. Mentally, I was not in a hurry so I had better sight picture. I read the rules as: you can't shoot with the mag in your hand, but you can with the mag in the pocket. My mag was in pocket. My hand was co-located in my pocket along with my mag.
  20. Agent H here. Just finished cleaning the residue from the last battle off of my trusty heater. Freshened it up a bit with a new spring too. If I make this heeer event, it's only to have pity on those at a local event of the same weekend.... Agent H out.
  21. Now THAT is where it SHOULD be located. To think, it was done 10 years ago. What's a little frame modification? As long as front cocking serrations are used on the slide, no need for a cocking lever or extended thumb shield. Very nice.
  22. I like the name over user name. Looks good.
  23. Just to chime in a bit. I'd rather get a clean gun to work on than dirty. There is something to be said about "seeing" what's wrong with it in the filth but it's still a pain in the ass. If he didn't disclose the cleaning fee up front (I guess he didn't) I'd be a little torqued but it would have taught me a lesson (as it did you). Drop off clean gun to gunsmith. As for price. At first I thought it a bit high, then after re-reading the situation it seems OK. Depends on whether or not he'll stand behind his work if you have another issue. Don't sweat the new barrel comment.
  24. I use the 771's. I like the open front. If I get lazy when pulling the mag out (up) and pull it forward, it will still come right out. With some effort you can adjust the can't foward as well as back.
