  1. I load 5.2 - 5.22 gr. WSF with 180gr. lead. 1.18 to 1.20 length.
  2. In my 1911's overall length is an important detail. Anything shorter than 1.245" won't feed reliably, there will eventually be a failure to feed. 1.245 to 1.250 feeds in them all. They are too long to eject the unfired round at the end of a stage, but they run like a champ through the stage.
  3. Atlgentlegiant, If you live in the Atlanta area, there are 2 or 3 good opportunities. On Tuesday nights we hold a USPSA match in Fayetteville (Autrey's Armory). There's no better practice than imersing yourself in a match. If you aren't anywere near Atlanta, too bad. I think others would also encourage you to find a USPSA or IDPA club and go to their matches. We all love to help new people gain experience, and its fun. PM me if you need more.
  4. Back at it so soon? AL Sectional at EAGC is a tradition now. You know, it's as good an event as there is in the USPSA. Mike S.
  5. It is and will be one of your most significant accomplishments. It was after a serious backslide that I was rewarded with a heart attack. 13 years and counting, of renewed commitment since that.
  6. At my viewing, the audience was a well mixed group of people in our small town. As we stood at the end, it was clear that these men had humbled us. Their "Valor" can not be adequately described. This movie is extraordinary.
  7. I wonder why everyone doesn't shoot single stack. It's way more fun. I also wonder why everyone doesn't like vanilla ice cream the best.
  8. I replaced my LesBaer adjustable with Tripp's K-1 adjustable. He will enlarge the rear aperture to your desired width. His sight fit my slide, perfectly.
  9. Chuck and Ricky put on a great "last match" this weekend. Georgia, Alabama and Florida shooters are gonna miss Cool Springs. You had to have participated in one of their matches to understand how much quality they could put into their stage designs. It was a challenge to figure out how to engage one of their "memory" stages. They gave us a great farewell. I suspect a few clubs around Atlanta will be asking you guys for some stage designs.
  10. Thanks for the info. I've been loading 185 gr LSWC with 6.7 grain WSF at 1.245 OAL, 900 - 920 fps. 200 gr LSWC with 4.3 grains of Clay's, same OAL.
  11. Had a similar result with some "new to me" lead bullets. I was crimping them too much, causing the back of the bullets to be deformed. Lightened the crimp and then very clean holes.
  12. Taking a few sprints on fresh gravel in 90'something degree's - this is one senior who's glad to be up and about the next day.
  13. 4.88 grains, Clay's at 1.20. It makes major, but not with a wide margin. I have shortened them to 1.18 and the PF goes up. They don't cycle through my gun as well though. A friend loads with Vitavhouri 320, and I think it is around 5.9 grains, but not 100% sure.
  14. Very recent experience for me verified the famous Dillon, no questions asked, warranty. Mine is a square deal that was quite broken. The handle was in half and the back of the machine's housing was shattered in many pieces. The little machine was returned with new parts, cleaned, shining and operating better than ever, now.
  15. I was at 166 at PASA Park 2 weeks ago with 4.88 grains of Clay's and 185 MG. But, made 174 PF a month earlier in a much warmer climate.
  16. You might want to try slim grips and practice getting a really high grip on the gun. The dynamics of the 1911 vs a Glock is talked about a lot, but the difference in controlling recoil shouldn't really be a night and day difference. Once you become accustomed to the 1911, you'll like the feel of the gun coming straight back into your hand.
  17. Welcome to Columbus. There's a lot of shooting opportunity in this area. An IDPA match is held monthly at 2 fairly close ranges, East Alabama Gun Club and Central Alabama Gun Club. USPSA matches are also held at those clubs. If you are willing travel a bit, you can shoot a match every weekend. Bayou casts several bullet choices. I like their 135 grain RN, but a friend told me they have stopped makeing that bullet, I haven't checked for myself, though. I'm sure they make a 147 grain bullet and my friend shoots their 125 grain and has no trouble with steel. There's a lot of load data available. There is a good retailer in Columbus, that carries a lot of powders, primers, etc. (Shooters of Columbus). If you are coming to Ft.Benning, we get a lot of soldiers at the matches at the clubs mentioned above. Some good shooting at Cool Springs Gun Club, Roberta, GA as well.
  18. A friend pointed me toward a 45 load that runs very much like a 40. 185 grain bullet at 900 fps, a 12# recoil spring and your 45acp pistol snaps like a 40s&w. Now, if I could just get these old bones to move like a 40, I'd be alright.
  19. I use a Kimber Gold Match pretty often. I very much like 1911's and shoot single stack almost every match. Among my 1911 choices, my Kimber is equal to any for reliability and accuracy. It does have a have a couple of extra touches beyond its stock condition, so that its configuratiion is identical to the others.
  20. This is no help, but I've had frustration getting Ranier 200 gr bullets up to PF. In fact, I haven't found a load that has even gotten them up to 800 fps. They group very well, just haven't found a load that shoots them fast enough.
  21. The sight is quite rigid. It might be that at its highest elevation and with a magazine that has a base pad that is too long, the pistol could be too tall to fit the box.
  22. I admire the guys who "dump" a round on the first target of an array. They have the confidence that they'l make the hits on the rest and reach slide lock as planned.
