  1. I've been using a SDB about 9 months. I'm curious about what turns out to be the issue. The most consistent aspect of my machine has been the powder drop. I did learn that if I screw the powder assembly on to the die too tightly, the powder drop did become inconsistent. Not as dramatically as you have described, but enough to be a problem. A snug fit seems to be the proper fit, not tight. Proviso-I bought my machine used and have learned about it on pretty much, a trial and error basis.
  2. Y'all might need to set up a registration site. Can we park out on the road side?
  3. Happy B'day Mark. Hope you can come put some lead downrange tonight.
  4. Only clean enough that a round will chamber, but it is more satisfying if it is as shiny as newly, never fired ammo. Load in small lots at first so you can experiment and find the various conditions you like best. I may or may not be the first to say....read this forum, a lot. There is almost, all the guidance you will require, right here. I am now a 9 month veteran of loading for myself and these folks have been there way before me and they are happy to share their experience.
  5. I'm pretty new on a Square Deal too. Was the upstroke, into the die especially tight? Had you used any lubricant on the casings? Let us know what you discover when you get it out, please.
  6. Does rice maintain its integrity or does it break down? Thanks
  7. I'm not afraid, but I surely do dislike it. It has become a royal pain, I think. That wasn't an option on the poll. It is a real life example of how much freedom people will give up in order to "feel" more secure, plus an industry that shows the result of extraordinary economic stress.
  8. There have been some interesting insights presented in these comments. I think a common denominator is that the participants in USPSA are people who appreciate, admire and strive for accomplishment. It's not the only place where such folks gather, but it is a good place.
  9. Just a bit off subject, I am a recent convert to Clays. But, I have to load with a minimum of 4.1 grains to get to major, reliably. 4.0 to 4.1 with 230 plated RN will get me 725-740 fps. I haven't used any primers except Remington. Like was mentioned earlier, keeping the inside of the casing dry, seems to help, no powder flakes stick to the side. What I like about Clays is the consistency from shot to shot and the recoil seem flat.
  10. I kind of wish I hadn't traded one I fixed up. I put a long solid Greider trigger that I blackened, installed an EGW bushing that really tightened the shot grouping, did a pretty good trigger job on it, and filed the hammer down to eliminate the "bite", put some white paint of the front sight. It was still a GI, but was a pretty good shooting pistol. I did change some trigger parts, but it had the GI look. Only took about $60 in parts.
  11. Senior discounts were OK at first. Now, cashiers aren't asking anymore, just applying the discount. I don't look that old to me???
  12. The "basis skills" review might take longer than you expect. Have plenty of help, 1 experienced shooter to each 3 students. Provide advanced, specific instruction about how you want them to transport their gear to the range, and your specific safety rules. I think the stage we set up had too many vision barriers, the students couldn't see what the others were doing. Might have been better to start with and El Prez type of stage or just a single barricade type. We got into a lot of detail about divisions and classifications, scoring, etc. pretty early, that could have been put off for a break - they want to get started shooting. Our leader started with dry fire work and that is a really good idea.
  13. Let me introduce you to www.m1911.org And, that's just a beginning of how much information is published on 1911 design. Also, look at the tech pages on brownells.com
  14. Alan ran his "New Shooter's School" at EAGunclub last weekend. It would be really good if more clubs could conduct such events. The people who came soaked up the information that was provided and in an environment that was absent the "supercharged" air at anyone's first matches. My take from it is that Ronnie and Alan have started a great service to all of us who compete at EA Gun Club. It was also fun to see new shooters get "turned on".
  15. I'm not clear as to what your objective is, compete with it or some other primary purpose. I don't think you will find many who compete with a Glock 21. It doesn't fit well into any USPSA class, it would be well chosen for CDP class in IDPA. Kimbers are often used in both organizations. I have 2 of them, one for games and one for real life, both are Series 1. I also agree with Ironequalizer about magazines, McCormick's have been far more serviceable in my experience.
  16. "Noone" No one, typed to quickly. It was a strain reaching around my back for the last mag. Must have looked like a dog chasing his tail.
  17. Noone brought a revolver, wonder why?
  18. I'm gonna use Jack Bauer's "bag o magazines" method.
  19. DyNo, I RO'd you Tuesday night on both stages. On the speed stage I thought you had simply "over analyzed" it. The best strategy was to execute basic skills, get 8 A's on the first 4 targets, make a transition ( leaning around the curtain ) to the 5th target with your remaining 2 rounds, reload while you stepped beyond the curtain, finish the 5th target with 4 more and put 6 quick on the last target. On the field course, I thought you had a plan that made sense and I adopted it when I ran the course. On the last array you leaned to get the last target and saved a significant amount of time by not having to move to another position for only one target. Because you hadn't really planned to do that, it took a moment to figure it out in "real time". Plus, the "no shoots" were everywhere, but a strong lean on the last target made "C" hits available. Aside from all that, you are handling that Beretta nicely.
  20. I tried an extended mag release on my Limited gun. I would sometimes hit it hard enough with my off hand ( 2 handed grip ) that the mag would fall. I suspect that on a single stack, mags would be falling a lot more.
  21. Your grips are fine. Most aftermarket magwells are acceptable. Extended mag release can be a problem. You might consider changing the mag release spring to a lighter one. Might solve your issue better, anyway.
  22. I shoot a lot of SS. Your shooting looks mighty good to me. If you come to any matches in Georgia, I'd say it would be best if you slowed down and missed a lot more often. Best for me, anyway.
