  1. I’ve read where the mag well interferes but I can’t remember where. The stick part of the drum is very short so it doesn’t surprise me.
  2. I've not paid any particular attention to cleaning the chamber - round count just over 12k. No issues that I have found. I shoot 100" FMJ RMR bullets and factory stuff sometimes.
  3. I can use either the 70 or 80 for the 130PF stuff, both are 100% reliable - the 70 shoots a little flatter maybe, but I really didn't do enough testing to say how much of a difference. I use the 80 most of the time for this stuff, I will use up some factory ammo mixed with reloads and I want something that handles everything with no worries. JP hit the nail on the head, the 80 eats everything. I stick with the 1.125" OAL rule for everything that might have the need for a mag extension, just to be safe (my actual load is 1.118" +-). For the bowling pin load, I use only G17 mags loaded with 8 and those are a little longer - 1.130" I think, with a 147gr RMR MW.
  4. I was in nearly the same situation you are in. I decided to go with a custom build and I'm glad I did. I had mine cerakoted OD green with the ACE stock (I don't like adjustable stocks, too rattley). Went with the component trigger - Ben at JP says he thinks the break is a bit better than the drop in. I have the roller trigger - thought I would hate it, tried it, didn't like it...but I shoot really well with it. Darqusoull13 helped me a lot - good advice from an experienced shooter. Listen to him, he gives solid advice. For what it's worth, I have 4 lock pieces - 60,70,80 and 100 - they give more tunability that any spring change - in my opinion. The 60 handles near major loads for bowling pins, the 100 is for my as-yet-not-finalized "mouse fart" loads for steel challenge. The only reason I haven't finalized the MF load is that the gun shoots regular loads (130 PF) so flat with so little recoil , I haven't really found the need for them. Last thing - mags - OEM glock only - although the magpul drum seems to be OK. I like TF Goliath extensions - built like tanks. BUT - you must load to OAL of less than 1.125 or they will not feed properly. TF states this on their site. Good luck, you won't be disappointed. Phil
  5. I’ve replaced rings after upward of 7500 rounds and they were just starting to deform (smash). Only once was one of them torn. I use Lucas oil on mine, pretty generously. I wouldn’t have thought that would cycle at 85 PF with 2 tungsten weights. I run those with hi powered loads for pins. Goes to show how great those JPs are. Back to the issue - I wonder if there is a rough spot in the buffer tube tearing the rubber, or a burr? Maybe run bore scope to see? good luck Phil
  6. I took this advice and don't regret it. I also wanted a black barrel and they don't have the vertical comp in black.
  7. Colorado Nick - I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make by showing the milled glock slide or the S2 with the optic mount - I assume that is the factory slide finish on teh S2 because it doesn't match the frame - just like mine. I have 4 other CZs and I don't think the finish on any of them is as good as the DWX - including my Czechmate - but I'm no expert. I don't draw my S2 much - I will when I get it back but the finish on my TSO is showing some wear - after probably 10k rounds and 100s of kydex holster draws. I use a race holster now so only the trigger guard gets any wear.
  8. Wow - so defensive - what are you guys so worried about? Why on earth would you care this much that I like the job Primary Machine did on my slide? Why would you care that I like the to have the complete slide cerakoted and I don't mind paying a little extra for it? Why would you care that I don't mind having a coating that may not be as bulletproof as the factory coating? Why would you make claims like the coating is to hide imperfections when you obviously know the coating is too thin to do that? I made no claims that it was better than anything else, I just wanted to show my gun, that I think looks great. I saw their work first hand and was impressed, based on that went with them and currently have a Shadow 2 slide (which, by the way, has a PVD coating, not DLC, at least according to CZ's website) on it's way there - you guys chose another route - I couldn't care less, if you're happy with it - good for you - to each his own.
  9. To each his own. I know SS doesn't rust, I wanted the whole slide cerakoted and yes I know that is not the factory finish. I also added the red DWX color infill, wasn't sure that would turn out good but I really like it. This gun will not be a safe queen, it will show wear no matter what coating it has - doesn't bother me. If it does, I'll just have it recoated - haven't done that on any other guns that show wear. What would bother me is knowing part of the slide doesn't match - even though I can't see it. Saving $35 to not coat the slide just isn't worth it to me. As for the optic cut, it fits the 507c perfectly, just a bit snug. I haven't tried other 507's, not sure how tight they are, but I did have a friend get hit in the forehead with a dot that flew off - on a custom milled Shadow 2 - milled by a local guy - that was a sloppy fit and cheap screws. Didn't want that.
  10. The graphite black cerakote matched the frame perfectly. Primary wants everything to be perfect and coating the whole slide is the best way to do this. They want the actual optic along with the slide so they can make sure it fits perfectly - if you take out the screws, the optic stays put. Better pics forthcoming. ignore the oil and dust.
  11. I have my second slide headed to them. Great job on my DWX. Primary Machine.
  12. I ordered these from Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09TXZCVRB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 They worked perfectly as they came. I shortened them slightly with a grinder but don't think I needed to.
  13. Well - I milled the slide and replaced the grips, I don't have enough rounds through it to make other decisions yet. It sure is a sweet shooter stock from the factory. I've never noticed a difference replacing guide rods so I won't be doing that anytime soon. The trigger shape and size are great, although I prefer a flat trigger so that might be something I change out. To actually answer your question - no - you don't need to change a thing - it's a great gun out of the box. I think those who are modifying it are either competitive shooters that want to squeeze out every last ounce of performance from whatever gun they're using or they like to fiddle. I'm somewhere in the middle. Get it, its awesome!
  14. I was curios about the cleaning issue too - I have a GMR15 and JP5 - an injury has curtailed my shooting so I have <1500 rounds through the JP5, most very hot loads for bowling pins - stays pretty clean. Just cleaned the GMR after about 2000 rds, it was filthy - but I shot a lot of different power loads, the softer ones are definitely dirtier. In summary - I can't tell at this point if the JP5 runs cleaner or dirtier for sure, but I will probably clean more often regardless, seems like there is a lot going on and I don't want to gum up the works.
  15. I'm switching mine over as we speak - the smokes composite from my GMR-15 to my JP5. The JP5 OEM handguard weighs 10.6 oz., the smoke weights 4.6. Does not include the barrel nuts for either - I think the smoke nut is lighter as well. I suck at wide swings in steel challenge/falling steel - I'm hoping this will help a bit. I figure a bit more muzzle rise is worth faster transitions. My biggest issue is I had my JP5 cerakoted OD green, don't know how smoke handguard will look.
  16. While I haven't completed testing with different loads, have not found this to be true, the JP5 seems significantly softer to me than the MPX - at least on hotter handloads and some random factory loads. I am testing with 60, 70, 80 and 100 degree lock pieces. Testing is at an early stage as I blew out my knee and haven't shot in several weeks. Hopefully next month.
  17. I know I'm late to the game, this one slipped by me. At my club, we have divisions for optics at our pin shoots. I use a Czechmate with 147gr FP bullets loaded to near Major level. Absolutely no issue clearing the pins off of a 3' table. As for different calibers, I've used 45acp, .40 cal, 10mm, 357 magnum, 38 special, and 22lr (pin heads only). I posted my fastest times - by a lot - 9mm in the Czechmate. It's comp is working to keep the gun level so I can move much faster. Have great handloads for everything but 40, don't reload that one so I am using only factory stuff. Most was pretty anemic and the snappy recoil didn't lead to good speeds - at least for me. The 10mm was the same way. 45 acp to a lesser degree. Phil
  18. I like to have 10,000+ factory ammo in case something goes wonky with primers or powder...again. On the other hand, I like to keep enough bullets, primers, cases, and powder to make 20,000. I keep about 5,000 rounds of various loads on hand depending on the season. I'm a little behind on all three right now but I am waiting for some decent deals to come along - I know, could be a long wait. The shortage drove me nuts, I don't want to ever have to ration my shooting, if I want to do 6 matches a month, I can. For reference, I shoot between 11,000 and 15, 000 per year - a lot less lately due to some injuries. So you could also say I like to keep a years worth of factory ammo and double that in reloading capability.
  19. Talon grips sells bulk material - the rubbery stuff and a sandpaper finish: https://talongungrips.com/other-grips/diy-material/
  20. I have the JP Ultralight shrouded barrel (5.5") on my GMR-15. I use it for steel challenge because it is so light up front, certainly snappier though. I use a pretty light load - 120PF if I recall, going to experiment with lighter loads and changing the buffer weights. My JP-5's barrel feels much lighter than my standard 14.5" GMR barrel but I don't know if those are compatible with your setup. Phil
  21. I'm not an expert on those combinations but it seems to me that those loads should easily reset the trigger. It has no issues stripping the next round, but it won't reset the trigger? Sounds like a trigger issue - I've only heard good things about the Hyperfire but have not owned one. Can you drop in another trigger and give it a try?
  22. That's really cool - 45 ACP! Have you tried some hotter loads? I've always wanted a 45ACP pin gun.
  23. I only have two loads with Match Winners, my 9mm major load at 1.135" - had to ream my Czechmate barrels to get them to work - that isn't even close in the DWX barrel. The other load is my "Pins" load - a 147gr MW - same profile at 124 I think - won't plunk at 1.118". RN at the same length work fine. Time to ship it off to Memphis Mechanic for reaming while I wait for my slide. Thanks for the info.
