  1. This makes me feel more confident. I will try to get the same headstamp and use the target HSMITH mentioned and see what tomorrow brings.
  2. They were all 10 round strings. I will try the target method. I was looking for the results of the second day with as close to 950fps as I could get and the 172PF I thought was a safe margin. Thats what I thought I would get on the first day. I will try again tomorrow with the same batch. Hopefully its stays in the 172PF area. HSMITH, what powder is more consistent for you? When my TG runs out, I have about 3lbs of VV320 to try. Will that be a more consistent powder? Thanks again for the responses. John
  3. I am relatively new to reloading and need a couple opinions. I loaded a number of .40 rounds. Below are the components. Gun: Bedell 5" spitfire. Dillion 550B, EGW size die, Lee competition powder die, and the Lee FCD. Chrono is the MKIV XP Components: Zero 180gn JHP, Federal SP primers, mixed brass (mostly Federal), Titegroup powder (4.6gn). 1.135 OAL and a .420 crimp I went to the range to test my loads for PF before this weekends VA-MD Sectional. I had a bunch of ammo already reloaded to what I had used last year, that was 4.6gn of titegroup It made 175.5PF out of a Glock 35 with a KKM barrel. I used the same settings as above, and got the below results. Titegroup High Low Avg Avg/PF 6-8-09 Temp. 80, partly sunny. 4.6gn, 927, 905, 916.5 avg, 165PF Too close for comfort loaded some new rounds at 4.7gn. 6-9-09 Temp. 76, cloudy. 4.7gn, 1019, 965, 984.5 avg, 177PF Seemed like a big jump, so I tried some of the same 4.6gn rounds I had with me and got these new results. 6-9-09 Temp. 76, cloudy 4.6gn, 985, 938, 957.3 avg, 172PF My question is why such a difference with the same 4.6gn load on a similar day temp wise. Would the partly sunny day make such a difference in the load, or is this really within normal expected variations for a load.
  4. That's good stuff. When you are really looking right at the front sight, it will look like a giant, square building, with razor sharp edges, silhouetted against the sky. be This is exactly what I go through. I know what to do, instruct others what to do, and then do not do it myself. This became evident at the 2009 PSA shoot. During all six stages I was drifting from a series of shots with a sharp front sight, and then bam, started watching the targets and started missing. Back to the sights, hits. This would happen 2-3 times on each stage. It is frustrating to know what you are doing wrong and still do it anyways. John
  5. Not meant to hijack.... I polish the insides of ALL of my tubes using Flitz metal polish on a felt bob. I have an extension for my dremel that allows me to get 100% access to the length of the tube. Larry, where did you get the extension from, I have been looking for one?
  6. Nothing unique that I know of, I have a Glock 24 and I have the same sight set up and I have no problems with the sights. They have plenty of adjustability room.
  7. Now that's what I'm talking about!
  8. I use Ready Tatical for all divisions and place them on the belt in the same location. Great product.
  9. The one on the right must be a hit with the ladies now.
  10. I have and use both, but I just prefer the Dawson adjustables. They are rock solid and it is nice to be able to adjust them if necessary.
  11. When I used the .285 Dawson front, I would bottom out to get to POA. I then got the .300 front and had much more wiggle room for adjustments. I believe the .300 is their tallest front sight for the Glock. Not sure what else could be wrong, of the many Glock shooters I know, no one has had a issue with Dawson's sights using one of the two sizes mentioned.

    Guide Rod

It is secret, but between us, if you use pliers and some tee shirt material of your choice, you..... ...... pull the plug out . I usually do this with the rod in the gun and the slide held back so as not to have a missile coming at me when it lets loose lol. I'm just saying. Then secret number two, cap snaps back on, magic.

    Guide Rod

Duane, You can snap the end of the stock rod back on after you put in the ISMI spring and make it captive again. Works well for me, but I eventually went for the Jager poly guide rod that has a screw on cap to capture the spring, I now prefer that system. http://www.jagerproducts.com/guideRods.html
  14. Thanks, guys I did speak with John prior to this posting? I told him about the mag problem, then told him that cleaning the built up powder ect off fixed the problem? But none the less a problem that was not evident before the grip job? AS for his response to the slide loosening up: said it was normal after some 1k to 2k fired rounds. All I wanted was some feedback from other's that has had his work gone to see if your guys slides did the side to side ect. It seems like it is normal then. I was just worried about spending that amount of money and having somethiing wrong????? I have had 3 grips stippled by SJC. A SJC open gun, a Glock 35 limited gun and a Glock 34 production gun. I have not had any problems with the grip job or magazine issues. My only difference from you appears that I use the old Novak magwell, now sold by B&B enterprises (Bobby Carver). I have tried the SJC and liked the Novak style better. I will shortly have another two guns going to them for the stipple treatment. A satisfied customer here.
  15. Yes. Someone asked the question. NROI responded in an email (which got posted here), saying that other than the 4 parts listed in the rules, you could NOT swap out internal parts. I (brace yourself, this is going to be shocking) asked the Board to NOT approve that ruling until we had had a chance to discuss it. We're going to have a con-call on Monday to do exactly that. The four parts that the rules list for production, are the same four parts that are listed in Limited and Limited 10 without an "etc" either; although under limited the rules state you can modify internal parts you can only exchange those four minor parts. I do not believe that those 4 parts are the only ones exchanged in most limited guns. Production rules state that they are to Strictly be limited to these items and their intended purpose, but I didn't realize that under the Limited division"exchange" of minor parts could be less strictly followed. I believe those statements under the production rules were to explain, limit and define the new additions to the production rules involving the stippling, slides and barrel replacement points. I just wish I knew whose gun, modifications etc, was bringing all the attention to the need to more clearly define the production division. As Flex has stated in a couple posts, the triggers on most production guns are about at their limit now as to function and reliability. There may be different ways to get there, but they are there. The worst case sceneario will be a 1911 type trigger that in some production guns you could argue might already be there after the first double action pull. Let me see. CZ Long 4lb pull then short 2lb..2lb..2lb etc. Glock longish 2-3lb, longish 2-3lb, longish 2-3 lb, etc. Not really a lot of differrence and is this all we are trying to prevent with further refinement of the wording? I just want to keep what I and many others have and want and get back to shooting. I don't want to get like the ATT commercial and have to start saying, Am I legal now, AM I legal now.....
  16. I, like many, have spent quite a bit of money to make our guns to our liking based on the '08 rules and current decisions of JA. I have had trigger work on all my guns, my production gun has had the (not reversible) Sevigny Speedwell done based on an "OK" from a past JA decision. My only option would be to purchase new guns and start over to conform to a new set of rules. The financial burden of that on me and the many members who have already put out funds, is not where I want to spend what disposable income I have to continue participating in this sport. There is so much money involved in buying bullets, reloading supplies, matches, travel, etc, that having to start at buying new guns is almost ridiculous. I got into this sport just a couple years ago. I slowly got to like certain things I read about, saw, and tried and the worthwhile alterations that were rules legal I had done. Some of my shooting friends do not choose to, or would not do similar alterations. I believe they helped me and were within the rules. Whether it is my perception or reality, I choose to customize what was available to me to customize and I love where my guns are as far a function and reliability. The bottom line is my gun is as "State of the Art" as can be. I don't think I could do much more to it without going into illegal modifications so it is complete, but generally I get beat by those who should be beating me, at my classification level, and I beat those who I should be beating. I would vote to leave well enough alone. It truly does come down to the shooter, not the gun, but let us chase that equipment illusion that keeps many of us loving the journey but which also helps the manufacturers and customizers to stay busy which leads them to offer more support to us. Sorry I went OT a little. John
  17. Took this out of another thread. Okay, I think this one is pretyy much put to bed. The latest reply from JA when I asked about plugs, et. al. With the 2008 rules, the plug you refer to is OK, what you cannot add is a plug like the Seattle Slug, which extends down from the grip and acts as an extended mag well. The Sevigny set up is allowed as it does not change the outer dimensions or contour of the grip. It would be tough to give them up. All have been tuned by SJC and have served me well, but you never know.

    Old and New

Just bought back my old Les Baer and just received my new Bedell Custom. November has been good! I am going to give this 1911 / 2011 system a try. Only shot the Baer a few times and sold it for other guns. Always been a Glock guy but the force was strong and I submitted to it.
