Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Another question. I heard from the grapevine that USPSA might be changing the rules to allow 38 super load up to major PF in limited soon? Any truth to that rumor?
  2. Open class guns are fun, just not as fun for me as iron sights. I guess the biggest problem I have is I can be somewhat competitive in limited or somewhat competitive in open but not both at the same time. I usually just shoot my limited gun in open class steel just because I practice with that and shoot it just about as well as the dot gun. If I put the time in and practice with the dot gun I really pay the price with my limited gun. Thanks for the long post G-manBart very imformitive. I will try to remember to say magazine and USPSA! A 6" gun sounds interesting. I am debating on going cheap and getting a Para but that Edge or a Caspian (both guns i have now are Caspians) is probably what I am going to end up with and shoot Limited. It will also probably take me a couple more months to get a Caspian or STI, everyone seems pretty busy right now. I think Limited is the class I will pick, alot of the real good man on man steel shooters I know, seem to shoot limited and that was very competitive at the local club. We dont shoot alot of steel in the winter here but the USPSA guys seem to shoot all year. That is going to end up as my winter sport I guess.
  3. I have shot alot of steel but have only attended a couple ipsc shoots. I want to get serious about 1 of these 2 divisions so I have a couple questions. First, which class is more competitive? Has more shooters on average and better shooters. Limited 10 1) Can you start out stripping one off in the chamber and putting in a full 10 round clip to give you 11 rounds. 2) Is any 1911 a good choice for this division? I used to shoot a Kimber 45 and was considering this division because I loved that gun. 3) Any other rules I need to know when buying equipment for this? I have read through the rules but maybe I am missing something. Limited: This class and Open are what I have shot in the past with my .38 super guns I use for steel. 1) I dont like being scored minor though so was considering another gun. The Para in .40 or the STI Edge in .40 seem like the obvious choices for a limited gun because of mag capacity and major scoring. Is there a better choice? Most of the really serious shooters I know always go to open class it seems. I have gotten tons of advice from these people mostly saying I should just load my open gun to major, but i just dont have alot of fun shooting a dot gun. I have seemed to resist the darkside even though I do have a very viable open class gun I dont shoot because it just isnt as fun. Anyway thats why I am looking for some limited specialists and their advice. I appreciate and advice or suggestions.
  4. I was taught to shoot right handed with my right eye doing the work even though at a young age i wanted to use the left eye. I use my left eye(I can use the right if i want) when shooting a pistol but again shoot right handed. I use both eyes shooting a shotgun. As long as your kids right eye has decent vision I would teach him to use it shooting a rifle. It makes shooting a rifle much easier, you dont get nailed by the stock and scope trying to get your left eye in line with a right handed gun and you get to use right handed guns. If he still wanted to shoot a pistol with the left eye though i wouldnt worry about that either. There are alot of us confused individuals doing that as well. The trigger pull is the most important part of a shot and i wouldnt even consider shooting a rifle left handed just because of that mechanic. There is no difficulty at all shooting a pistol right handed with your left eye. At some point your kid may even want to shoot a bow. If he is right handed he will have to use his right eye to shoot that bow. It doesnt work any other way. It is not difficult at all to use your non-dominant eye to shoot a rifle which is really the only place a change would help. Shooting right handed with a rifle gives you alot more options when choosing a rifle to shoot especially when you are looking for a used weapon. My daugher is left handed and it is a pain for her to right handed rifles and not all even have an option for a purchase of a left handed model. I have enough guns to outfit a dozen right handed deer hunters but my daughter wouldnt be able to hunt without a special purchase of a left handed bolt action rifle. It isnt pleasent to get nailed by the end of the bolt shooting a right handed gun lefty.
  5. I could shoot the open gun with open ammo and get the Major scoring advantage even. I realize this but just havent seemed to get the dot sight disease that most shooters seem to suffer from. I enjoy the limited gun and conventional sights more. Perhaps because I am better with it. I usually shoot the open steel competitions with the limited gun as well and usually place pretty well. I might do better with the comp and ported dot gun if I practiced with it more, but it is so fun beating most of the dot gun guys with open sights. Also I would have to work up a load that met the major power factor and I havent done that yet.
  6. And to think I am just happy if she cooks! You should teach a seminar on this stuff.
  7. I appreciate the quick responses and interpretation of that rule. I had the same interpretation but since thats what I wanted it to say, I was worried I was being influenced by my needs. I realized it would be scored minor even if i put the major loads in it and I am fine with that. I mostly shoot steel, so the USPSA competitions would just be for fun anyway. If it becomes more important to me, I guess I will just have to buy another gun. Which is what the wife is already worried about!
  8. I have a caspian 38 super that i use shooting limited steel competitians. I also have basically the same gun with a dot sight set up for open steel. Reading the rules it says a gun must have a pruduction run of 500 units each year. Does that preclude a caspian from shooting in limited division?
