  1. I’m zeroing at 20-25 yards freehand. This has worked out well on the 50 yard shots at Area 3 the last 2 years.
  2. This may be an unpopular opinion, but the b class run at this point is probably an aberration if you’re going out there and shooting a bunch of D classifiers. Barring a major gun malfunction causing you to bomb multiple stages, the classifier match is probably more representative of your current skill level. Part of what makes D and C class hard for some folks to get out of in particular is consistency. You might connect on a good one here and there but that peak isn’t your normal. I still tell people that D class means you’re probably a better shooter than 80% of people who shoot a gun more than a couple times a year. You’re just comparing yourself to a standard that’s set by the top 1%. At this level II own the fact that you’re D. Don’t try some shady stuff to be with the U shooters because that honestly doesn’t mean jack. Some of those U shooters could be a GM in another division who just switched and don’t have enough classifiers. They could be someone at their 3rd or 4th match. You will place where you place. Go out there and shoot the stages to your abilities and take copious mental notes. Have someone on your squad video you so you can go back and find areas to work on. I am sure that between the stage scores and video you will find stuff to work on. shoot enough matches where they run 1 or 2 classifiers as part of a bigger match and the classification jump will come with the skill and consistency improvement.
  3. I went from seeing 0 of these on the range to everyone having one in about 3 weeks
  4. Isn’t that assuming that the electronic muffs’ speaker is capable of producing said “full volume”?
  5. Just another vote of confidence in those springs. Use them in my Czechmate and had them on my shadow 2s.
  6. I’d be interested to see events from yesterday added in here. At least near me, Sunday matches tend to be pretty rare except for majors.
  7. Man, that's sexy. And I bet it's accurate AF with the fixed barrel too. Someone who is good at physics - would the lighter reciprocating slide mass of a 92 theoretically reduce the amount of wear and tear on the optic?
  8. Basically yes. Your index point is gonna be a little different than with irons especially if you’re using a dovetail mount instead of milling. lots of dry practice will get you there. Also practice surrender draws, and other odd positions (leaning etc) as your index isn’t just off the draw.
  9. this. Any division with major scoring the whole point is to shoot major and push the speed. The extra time it takes to shoot all the points even if you choose minor is an eternity when you’re up against major shooters. Specifically for classifiers the major scoring advantage results in some really blazing times. Just look at some classifiers’ high hit factors for production, limited, and open.
  10. Most people with a 1.75 belt have something like the safariland where they use attachment points.
  11. I really don't see how this is complicated. There were previously stipulations on what kind of barrel replacements from first or third party sources are allowed. Those stipulations have been expressly removed.
  12. DAA does have a wide belt adapter for the new Alpha-Xi pouches available, though it's showing out of stock... and the Alpha Xi are expensive and pretty new. Something with a Bladetech TekLok or DOTS mount may end up working better with the big belt. RHT makes good kydex mag pouches that use this mounting method, although the drawback to TekLok/Dots is it does cover a lot of velcro. A tip I got was you can get strips of velcro with adhesive backing off amazon or whatever and attach that to the inner side of the mount. I have yet to try this, because my velcro just showed up, but the theory is pretty sound. I used to use the DAA Race Masters, and switched to the RHT pouches, immediately got less binding. The Alpha-X and Alpha-Xi, along with the racer pouches, don't have this problem but the racers are out of the running with the belt size you've got.
  13. Yes, you may replace with any aftermarket barrel. Chuck is correct that special condition 5 applies, but 21.3 now specifically allows aftermarket barrels with no restriction on length contour profile crown etc.
  14. Primarily shooting CO now, so I run 4 pouches. 3 standard bullets forward, 1 set up for bullets out - the latter is for my barney mag. Don't want to confuse things with the other pouches. I keep 1 mag with a prod-sized base pad in a different color for Barney, again to avoid confusion. All my other mags have 140mm basepads. At a Level 2 match, or a particularly important Level 1, my starter mag comes from my pocket. Any other L1 match and it's coming from pouch 3. When I was shooting prod, 5-6 pouches and the starter mag came from my pocket pre-loaded to 11 every time barring an unloaded start. As far as mags on hand, I don't really like to have less than 5 for virtually any gun I shoot regularly, ones that are just occasional plinkers get ~3-4. For my primary competition platform (Walther) I think I have something like 25 mags now, including 3 dedicated for dry fire (permanently loaded with dummies with a Rack Buddy on top) I am with some of the other folks in this thread - I really like rolling up with all my mags loaded and shoot the whole day without having to reload a mag. Full mags go in one part of the range bag, used go in another. If it touches the ground, it ain't going back on the belt, and my "used" section is actually subdivided to separate these. God forbid I have a few reshoots and do need to load back up, I would never touch the ones that hit the ground until they've been cleaned at home.
  15. I just had to DQ a shooter on the unload show clear of our last stage at a fairly big local match. Newer shooter but was doing fine on safety, just some poor stage plans or execution throughout the day. If you are finished unload show clear, I said, trying not to give away the target just around the wall corner next to us he’d forgotten to shoot. He drops the mag. Racks the slide, shows me the empty chamber. If clear Hammer Down Holster. Halfway to the holster he flat out spin-drops his gun. I must have seen straight down the barrel 3 times before it hit the ground. I am actually pretty happy with how I reacted. Didn’t lose my cool, followed the rules on what happens next, gave the shooter some advice, and got him with a buddy who will show him his scores in PS Competitor so he can learn from his other stages. But I am a little surprised that I didn’t lose bowel control. I’m guessing if I hadn’t seen a clear chamber I would have.
  16. Learned my lesson with an extended mag release. Bad design IMO by Walther makes it so more or less any modern grip will hit it during recoil unless you rotate the paddle so far it’s barely useful. dropped my mag 3 times at the first shooting position of a stage and just called it.
  17. So I’m helping run our USPSA section match this year and I’m trying to make sure our chrono stage runs well and is consistent. A few local shooters had some issues at A3 last year and I don’t want something similar to happen on my watch. Basically I’m hoping for any tips and tricks, advice on construction of the recommended chrono box, etc. all help is appreciated.
  18. Some folks have said that it may not be a matter of red or green being easier to pick up, but after a while you get used to the first color so switching forces your brain to pay more attention for a while. so it might be one of those things where you switch back and forth every now and then to keep your brain on its toes!
  19. I’ve been a long time lurker, but decided to start getting more active. I’ve been shooting USPSA since fall of 2017, started in Production and then moved to Carry Optics in 2018. Made A class in CO recently despite not enough practice live or dry, and feel generally optimistic about continuing to grow in the sport. I got RO certified last year and just picked up my steel challenge endorsement a few months ago. I’m trying some new stuff this year, I’m our deputy section coordinator for the first time, COVID forced a premature end to my first season as match director for my clubs indoor league, and I’ll be shooting my first nationals. looking forward to getting to know all of you better and hopefully contributing positively to the forum for a long time to come.
  20. Walther Q5 SF with Romeo 3 Max. Love the platform.
  21. They don’t call him Sasquatch for nothing! He works for CZ USA and is one of the hosts on the Hit Factor Podcast (there’s 2, he’s on the better one). Also occasionally pops up as a guest on the Shoot Fast Podcast.
  22. I’ve got multiple Overwatch triggers and never had an issue like this. Are you 100000% sure that they sent you the poly PPQ version of the trigger?
  23. I live in Area 3, so there’s definitely a trend towards hoser and 32 round courses, although some clubs locally are better than others. I think I enjoy a good 20 round COF better than 2 generic 32 rounders.
  24. I had a pretty rough one about a week ago. Had a primer jam under the shell plate of my Mark 7 press, but I didn’t know it was a primer until later. Shell plate was jammed so bad I couldn’t remove the shell plate nut to take it off, so I had to hammer the shell plate back to a spot where the root cause could be moved out. Naturally I didn’t stop to think that this had to be a live primer and started hammering with a punch. BANG. I’d taken my eye pro off and wasn’t wearing ear pro. The ringing didn’t go away for a few days.
  25. This sent me down an awesome rabbit hole. Bookmarked - thank you for this!
