  1. landsharks are for skinny feet shaped like a "C" If you have wider rectangular feet about the only thing that will fit right are adidas turf football cleats. I had to order them because most stores only stock tiny foriegn kid soccer cleats, Me: I need some cleats, Clerk: what for ? Me: Shooting Clerk: You need cleats for shooting? Me: Nope need cleats for stopping before I shoot, Clerk: well we have all these skinny kid cleats, Me: you got any big fat guy cleats ? Clerk: unnmm no hah haha haha, they dont buy cleats, Me: Oh yeh ever heard of an offensive lineman?
  2. snooze you loose, This is an adult sport. I dont get the mentality that MD's should be expected to jump through hoops to group certain people together, Especially when it turns into large groups, If the MD gets you the day and time slot you requested I think thats great. But trying to get 6 or more shooters grouped together might be expecting a little much, especially if they dont send in applications together or at the same time.
  3. I use the disposable foam, at the range, then put on muffs before I shoot or before I RO an open gun,
  4. Save yourself some money and effort. Paint doesnt make a car run and a guns looks have nothing to do with performance. There is a reason certain guns dominate shooting sports and other guns are nowhere to be found. Competition is a crucible, that which doesnt work is quickly cast aside while that which does rises to the top. Experimenting with new platforms is great but as a new shooter your better off starting with equipment that is tried and true.
  5. look at the winner's circle at big matches, You wont see sigs, you will see XD's and M&P's, M&P is simply a mouse trap than the XDM, but I cant fault a gun that wins.
  6. Thats perfect thankyou very much it's exactly what I wanted and I knew exel could do it I just dont know how to work the program, I do wish people would quit saying "simple" though.
  7. CSAA(AAA) ? might wanna spell that out, could be a coupel people that arnt familiar with the acronym
  8. I dont get this mentality that an adjustable rear sight is more accurate than a fixed, It isnt it is just more adjustable, Unless you are swapping loads all the time an adjustable serves no purpose. Pick the basic load you are gonna use and zero your fixed sights to that load. Switching bullet weights can usually dial in the height. and fixed sights are usually drift adjustable for left right.
  9. Function determines OAl, if your current oal works dont change it, Powder weight is used to raise and lower pressure, Unique and lead is dirty and will smoke, pretty much all there is to it, load up on the cheap practice ammo and just clean a bit more.
  10. No and I wouldnt tell him about the can of wd 40, fuel can for the mower, propane grill, or any of the other hundreds of things around the house that are in the same flammable category.
  11. Exel spread sheet isnt simple for me, I have never been able to get one to work, I may try to dig up the origina RCBS.load vs 2.88 disk and install it on this computer.
  12. Since I will be wanting coverage in a few months myself I went ahead and made a call to NRA. 1-877-672-3006 Option #3 Armscare Plus policy $17.40 per thousand You don't give any serial numbers. Covers everything except giving your gun to the hotel staff to put it in a common safe. Room safes are covered. Covers Stolen from a LOCKED car. Hotel room. Airport, lobbies, your house, etc.. NRA already provides you with $2500 for free. Hope this helps. Let me know if you find something better/cheaper. Like I said I need some too. Kevin This policy doesnt cover if you give the gun to any third party, like a TSA agent, or leave it in any unlocked vehicle, (like an airplane) So basically zero coverage if the airline looses it. I asked the agent 3 times if the gun is covered in the above situation, 3 times he dodged the question. I wouldnt buy the NRA policy unless they gave me in writing airline travel was fully covered.

dont buy a used safety, they have to be fit to the sear, and probably wont just go in another pistol and function.

The "lack of" power extractor is pretty universally despised on anything but a 45, It simply doesnt work reliably and is a propriety design that has changed the slide. I'd look for an older standard 16/40 and upgrade as money allowed. Start with the Dawson funnel, safety, sights and trigger.
  16. I am looking for a simple database type program I can use to save my load data and chronograph results., I have used RCBS.load for many years but it isnt compatable with windows 7, and the newer programs are very expensive and simply come with way more features than I will ever use, About the most complicated thing I would do is enter chrono results and have it calculate average and SD, the only data it needs to save is basic components used and chrono results, dont need any graphs or external balistic calculators. Freeware or shareware would be great.
  17. Terminal balistics on living targets is kinda beyond the scope of this forum, but it will be awful hard to justify a 300 meter self defense shooting. I also wouldnt think a varmint/target bullet being suitable for the job. A controlled expansion softpoint marketed for hunting larger game would be more suitable for use against something threatening. In my neck of the woods that leans towards canines, stray and coyote attacking livestock. Winchester, Ultra max and others make 55 gr softpoints for that purpose that have near identical balistics as their cheaper FMJ loads. The Ultra max softpoints remaned loads from midway worked so well and were only sightly higher than FMJ's I pretty much just used them for everything, Was alot easier on the wife not having two different ammo supplies.
  18. Quite a few steel framed guns like that, most if not all are double action only
  19. For the 200 grainers you might wanna go to a slower powder at short OAL's, Without a chrono or published data your gonna be shooting in the dark with those, There should be tons of 180 gr data out there though. Lasecast manual has quite a bit of cast data. For less smoke you again may wanna go a bit slower. I have found WST to be a great all around 40 cast bullet powder.
  20. I dont think it would be SO interference, as I wouldnt even make ready or even get into the shooting area if a SO walked up to me smoking, I am simply not willing to tolerate some one else's smoke, shooter, spectator or anyone else. If It was up to me smoking would fall under the same category as drinking and not allowed in public.
  21. I dont think feeling bad for someone on a previous stage should have a bearing on how a rule is enforced. The rule should be applied fairly acrosss the board. That being said In my opinion it would depend on the stages and whats going on. I could see many ways a shooter with a broke 4" gun would gain a competitive advantage with a 6" gun. IMO, the competitive advantage wording in the rule applies to the shooters previous gun, For instance, a match is full of hoser stages, the last stage has some tight upper a zone, or long range plates, shooter wants to switch to a 6" gun. I think its probably alot about intent and what stage is next.
  22. Nothing to do with attacking anyone. I think that it is great he seems to be ramping up production and I hope he turns it into a full time well staffed operation. His products are evidently well liked and we could definitely use some more competition in the bulk bullet market. I honestly wish him the best. I hope eventually Bayou Bullets becomes a great operation but so far the cautions about a dependable supply I expressed six months ago still seem to be an issue. Obviously there are supporters of the product that are ok with that.
  23. I expressed an opinion based on facts I observed, that depending on a one man part time mail order operation that didnt accept credit cards might leave you hanging, several people had a fit, In the words of Sheldon Cooper, "I seem to have previously informed you thusly." http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=111730&hl=bayou%20bullets%20&st=0
  24. a small powder charge moved POI a couple of inches ? actually grinding the front sight down would make your shots hit even higher, Ive got several guns with fixed sights that once I got the proper front sight hit point of aim, Lots and lots of handguns have been getting along just fine with fixed sights. I shoot a 155gr minor/steel load and a 180gr major load and both hit the same spot, You gain some convenience on initial settings with adjustable but add complexity and somewhere else for something to go wrong. I am pretty happy with the sight I am using on my eagle now, but if it breaks it will get replaced with a fixed sight made for a Bomar cut.
  25. If I was starting new I would go with a fixed Novak style sight. Nothing to break. My STI arrived with the bomar style and was dead on zeroed out of the box, I have never adjusted it. Seriously once zeroed how many of us ever do any adjusting ?
