Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. hi all, Just hopping over from the thread about Glock 34 gen4... I've been looking to getting a Glock 34 gen4, but at the gun store the smith adviced me against it. Instaed i should go for the gen 3 proven-and-loved-by-many model or the M&P Pro. I licked the trigger for the M&P better than the Glock. The fact that it is legal in IPSC production devision (the G34 is not) and it has better out-of-the-box sights (fiber optic and novak rear). I've read a lot of good things on various sites and forums about the M&P so am considereing going for that and not a G34. Like Want2race said tons of accessories, parts and kits are available. Perhaps not as much as Glock but then again the Glock has been around 20+ years. Regards, Igor
  2. IPSC has a limit of barrel lenght which is maximum 5 inches. The M&P Pro is exactly % inches were as the G34 is 5,32 inches.
  3. @ ridder: sorry to hear that. All the best of luck Over There. I found out the other day that here in France there is no IPDA but only IPSC and in IPSC the G34 is a no-no. Maybe I will get up getting an M&P pro which is accepted... Why is this soo difficult!!!??? Igor
  4. Passed by another gunstore over the weekend in Paris and asked about the Glock 34 gen4. They dind't have them in stock but could get it. After explaining what I wanted out of the gun ( accuracy at 15 and 25 meters) he gave me 3 alternatives that would do a better job than the Glock 34 gen 4: - S&W M&P pro (9mm): better trigger, already has a fiber optic front sight, etc - HK USP Tactical (9mm): great accuracy, good singel action trigger pull - Glock 34 gen3!!! His personal choice of the three is the Glock 34 gen3 due to the accessories available, ease of tinkering (the guy is also a gun smith) and resale value. I was surprised to hear that but from his experience of the gen4 (as a gunsmith and shooter) he is not impressed. The trigger is heavier, the backstraps come a bit loose and the recoil spring is still not optimum. The fact that Glock is still producing gen 3's is his proof that the gen 4's are not running 100% yet. Those of you with the new 34: let us know how it shoots and if possible compare it to the 34 gen3. Regards, Igor
  5. Thanks for the input guys! Will most likely get a glock 34 and probably a gen3. 2 gunstores have told me that the gen4 is not that great... Regards, Igor
  6. I wouldn't say that it is difficult in France but just extremely tedious. You first have to become a member of a club as well as teh french shooting federation. In order to become a member it takes about 1 to 2 months to get all the paperwork. Once a member you need to buy a shooting card and visit the range at least once every 2 months. After 6 months you can apply for a purchasing request card from the federation and with that and some other papers apply for a purchasing license at the local police station. After about 2 to 4 months they will give you an answer. During this time they conduct additional background checks. Once you get a positive answer you must buy a gun within 3 months, if not it will expire. For any additional guns you have to apply for a purchasing permit at the police station. In France you can have up to 7 guns but of specific calibers. I believe only 3 handguns and the rest hunting rifles or anything that is .22 LR. Regards, Igor
  7. For me it will be range only. Like in Holland there is no CCW. Home defense? It depends, laws here are very different than in the US. You are only allowed to use a gun if the otehr person has one too. Should somebody try to stab you and you shoot him, YOU go to jail!! In future perhaps I will begin to shoot it in competition IPDA or something similar but for now, just shooting at 15 and 25 meters. Igor
  8. Holy crap! That's $1168 in U.S. Dollars! Welcome to Europe! Where pretty much everything is more expensive... It of course also has to do with basic economics: demand and supply. There is little demand and supply is limited... Regards, Igor Almost! There is a store near the stockexchange called armureriedelabourse. You can check out their website to compare prices. France is known for being expensive when it comes to firearms
  9. Hi folks, In the market for my vry first handgun and although I have set my sights on a Glock 34 (gen4) I REALLY like to the look of the Browning Pro 9 (here in Europe we don't get the FNP-9 but it is the same gun). The looks are killer with the stainless slide and levers. As the shortest distence that I shoot is 15meters (16,4 yards) I really wonder if I can hit the bullseye consistently. I'm almost getting there with a Glock 17 and CZ Shadow but those guns ahve longer barrels and more importantly longer sight radius. Anybody have any input on the accuracy of this gun? According to a website of 'the best 9mm' it ranks as #2 Thanks! Regards, Igor

  11. European countries get supplied by Austria. The US market has local production which accounts for the difference in availability. Igor
  12. Hi folks, I'm in the final process to obtain my autorization to purchase a firearm in France and boy it is a long process. Not difficult but just really long, even more so as I am new to the sport. After looking around and firing several weapons I have set my sights on a Glock 34 gen4. I shoot at an indoor range at target 15m or 25m away (roughly 17 and 28 yards respectively ;-) I've been shooting the G17 (gen3 and gen4) and like it a lot althought the trigger pull on the gen4 is heavier. I shoot it better than a CZ shadow (at 15 meters) and am hoping with the longer sight radius that the G34 will give me even tighter grouping! I would love to get some feedback from you guys about the G34 gen4. and more pics!! A gunstore in Paris (armurerie de la bourse) can get it easily in stock and retails it for 859 EUR. The gen3 G34 has the extended mag and slide release, how is the release on the gen4? are they also extended, both slide and mag release? Regards, Igor
  13. Hi folks, Just joined this forum after reading some interesting exchanges and reading some posts from people in Europe. Currently living in France and joined 2 gun clubs last October: and indoor range for pistol shooting and an outdoor for skeet shooting. Been loving it ever since! Regards, Igor
