  1. My condolences Kyle. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  2. I'm not a professional or even highly proficient racer, but I used to do autocross (in my vw). It's really similar to USPSA, the mindset and "course management" aspect. Cars are placed in divisions according to drivetrain, engine size, modifications etc. You do course walk throughs before actually racing. You drive the entire course in your head multiple times before you even get into the car and fire it up. On the practical side of things, one of the last thing you think about is stepping on the *thumb rest [generic]*. You're highly focussed on the entrance, exit and setting up for the next corner. Some people may think about hitting the breaks or the *thumb rest [generic]* at certain points, but for me I never really did think about that. I just let that stuff happen when I was in the car. Your brain just tells your feet what to do automatically, but you tend to pay close attention to where the car is and where the next 2 or 3 corners are. To go faster you go smooth. All the newbies end up putting their cars sideways, lots of smoke, locking up, wheel spins etc. It all looks fun and exciting but all that stuff scrubs off speed and is very slow. The fast cars glide around the course with minimal fuss. I found I needed to be aggressive but smooth to get the best times. I'm sure there are parallels to shooting because the mindset is almost exactly the same, it's just the game that's different.

Thanks for the comment, that confirms that it's not just a grip issue. I guess I'll recheck the dies and powder dispenser. They're all being made from the same batch of 230RN, cci primers and clays powder, the only variance is in the mixed brass. Maybe I need to sort my brass and produce batches of ammo by headstamp?

The match went well today. During one of the stages I thought I noticed that some of my loads felt lighter than others somehow. Not sure what's going on there. Perhaps it's just my inconsistent grip, but I need to be mindful of that in future. I ran the classifier in 10.something, but it should have been probably 8.something since I missed the last popper and had to do a reload... ack! Oh well, perhaps next time I'll play it safe and do a reload between the two boxes. Something is definitely a little funky with my grip. I've noticed the past couple of matches that the front sight tends to float high in the notch. I wonder if somehow, the tension in my forearms is affecting it. I need to do some live fire practice and experiment with that a little.

I got my SO certificate in the mail today Looking forward to tomorrow's USPSA match at Circleville. It looks like there are going to be some fun stages. It's calling for storms tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully we'll be able to get done before they home in on us. My shoulders are suffering from a little muscle pain today, so I'm going to do some DF tonight to get the lactic acid flowing out of them.
  6. That's hilarious! There's a whole bunch more in their youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Hardees
  7. Were you intending to end the array and arrive at the final position at the same time? If so, why? I would think that it's better to arrive early than finish shooting and still have a yard or two to go. It's probably better to reload while standing (since you didn't have to be anywhere else), than reload on the move, right?
  8. According to the copernic website under features: "Features an advanced query form and a powerful query syntax to track specific words within pages, including Boolean and other search operators (AND, OR, NEAR), multiple levels of parentheses and quotes."
  9. Had a good time at the class, thanks to Gary for imparting great knowledge, Fran for organizing, Chad, Conrad, flyin 40 and others for stopping afterwards to help with a little practice. And I don't remember who I was talking to about the dillon 650 snapping shell plate fix, but here's the thread which has part numbers for the thrust washers and needle roller bearing.

Second day of the RO class today was spent outside at the range doing the practical. Afterwards a few of us stuck around and did a bit of practice which was really great. Practicing the texas star was great, since I've had such little experience with it. I guess I better end here and start working on my RO exam.

The first of a 2 day RO class is over and I've just got a quick test in the workbook to do later tonight. The class is going well and Gary is doing a great job of imparting his knowledge of the rules, past experiences and the practical issues of running a shooter. I had a little trouble getting my head around the issue of scoring a target where the noshoot perf is directly on top of the target perf, but after a bit of chit chat on the topic the penny dropped. I have the practical part of the class tomorrow, which should be interesting. It'll be nice to be outside in the sun. I just need to make sure I don't inadvertantly use the IDPA commands. As far as my dry fire training is going I've settled down to about 3 nights per week and weight training 3 times per week. This ensures that I look forward to dry fire, so I can stay focussed and get the maximum benefit. I'm following a year long weights program where all the routines are spelled out for me, so 3 times a week is what that calls for right now. I had to take a 3 week break since I strained my back, but last Thursday I started it back up again and it felt great. I think over the past few months I've gotten into some bad habits with my trigger release, so lately I've been really concentrating on moving my trigger finger slightly differently so I don't disturb the sights. When I do some live fire practice at the local indoor range, I shoot a group of about 50 rounds at 25 yards to continue working on accuracy. The one thing I just realised I haven't done yet, is to shoot a group at that distance off a bag/rest, since i'm using a new minor load.

    I can't say

I met and heard what Gary had to say earlier today... now I can't say
  13. So I find out this afternoon 1hr before leaving the office that the dimwit who was supposed to fix our server now finds out that the ram he tries is the wrong type, mismatch on clockspeed or something. I don't know how you can spend an entire working day trying to figure out how to put ram in a machine and still have a job.
  14. Ok we had a server outage this morning - a memory failure. We pay a ton of money each month for a top notch hosting facility and considering that hosting is now a commodity, if you charge top dollar, you HAVE to offer top dollar service. So the maintenance guy shows up to the broken machine with 4 new sticks of ram. The problem is that the machine takes 8. The guy should have had an up to date checklist for each machine and know what he needed before he even left his desk. Now the big update that we were planning on Monday is probably going to be delayed. The failure occurred at 8.30am this morning, it's now 2.30pm. How long does it take to grab some ram and stick it in the server?

  16. Hey Anubis, here's another for ya. At dinner parties after he'd finished the entre and dessert, he used to ask for under eights
  17. Did you know he thought Boys 2 Men was a delivery service?
  18. Great idea, also consider using a washable ink pen to mark the date on the container.
  19. Rather than just shake your head and ignore the issue, use it as a chance to educate him. Approach him and coach him on what to look for and perhaps explain what he missed and offer tips on positioning himself etc so he won't miss the same things again on other shooters. We're all volunteers and looking to learn.

I like mine medium, but my buddy likes it "just as the eyes are closing"
  21. I guess it'll be changing from Chastity Bono to Charles Boner?
  22. First of all: IDPA: SO USPSA: RO Yes the scorekeeper is also acting as an SO and also needs to position themselves to compliment the SO running the shooter, so that they can look for cover, range failures and other issues. The scorekeeper can also call out the warnings and of course stop if need be. Before marking the final score, it's also best to confer with the SO running the shooter to see if they saw it and discuss.
  23. There are lights everywhere in my house: as well as the home entertainment there are powerstrips for fish tank, coffee machine, fridge, pc, speakers, ups, phone, phone charger, razor charger, shredder, baby monitor, baby monitor charger, ipod docking station, laptop power supply. I'm sure I've forgotten a few.
