  1. The 5" Kimber I shoot for IDPA has a flat MSH. When I close my eyes, raise the gun up to where I think I'm pointing at the target then open my eyes, I can't see the front sight, it's too low. If I installed one of those MSH with the bump, would that help at all? Or should I just keep practising to adjust my wrist angle so it's right? thanks
  2. Gun Geek: Thanks for explaining. At least everyone's in the same boat then. I just didn't want to be left behind doing slidelock reloads when I may have been able to make them faster.
  3. I've watched various videos on reloads and have a silly question. When I watch travis and jake reloading, it doesn't look like they're at slidelock. But if they are, it doesn't look as if they are hitting the slide release before they start shooting again. Or perhaps they are just so fast that it's all a blur on the video. So this got me thinking. I just started shooting CDP in IDPA and I usually start with 8+1, so instead of shooting until slidelock, what if I just shoot 8 rounds, I'd still have a round chambered, then do a reload? I think this way I wouldn't need to hit the slide release and I would probably shave off a considerable amount of time. Since the falling mag would actually be empty, it isn't a reload with retention right? thanks
  4. They approved mine after about 48hrs.
  5. Hmmm.. I just noticed something different between Jake's reload and many others I've seen. Jake must shoot with his arms bent, so he has no need to bring the gun back, then tilt it, he just tilts it and it's right there. So by doing this you eliminate the back and forth movement and you eliminate any inconsistency in timing the backwards and tilt motion with the upcoming left hand. Sorry for pointing out the obvious to the more experienced, but it just hit me as I watched this video for the 20th time.
  6. I'd like to consistently win the CDP division where I shoot (Central Ohio), but I know that's a long way off yet. So I guess for now I'm just trying to stay safe, have fun and try to keep improving with every shot.
  7. Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate all your comments.
  8. Ben: I've never really practiced leaning from around cover, so I'm still very conscious of my movement and of course, that makes me slow. I remember seeing one of the more experienced shooters look at the floor when moving to a new position, I guess so he knows where he can place his foot. Maybe I'll try to do that next time, which will eliminate the cover calls. rubberneck: Stage 1 I definitely took too long to acquire the target through the window. As I got there and stuck the gun through the window I remember seeing the no shoot and hunting around to find the actual target. Later on in the day I found out that I don't need to pie through a window, since more than 50% of my body is covered anyway. So I guess next time I'll just run right to the middle, so everything is in full view. On stage 3 I remember stopping pausing on my way back from P1 to P2, I think that's just a factor of me not having ever practised shooting on the move. Before I read your post I was watching a video that Jake posted taking 2 shots, reloading, moving to another position and taking two more. I understand about the quick footwork than slam on the brakes. Thanks for the tips guys.

  10. Thanks Carlos, that's what I initially thought, but it sounded almost like a process rather than a product, otherwise it may have read: " where their sight black is kept..."
  11. I came across the phrase and don't know what it means. It's in a paragraph that reads: "But there are other championship-level shooters who believe that their routines are very important. They've got everything down to how they load their gun, where their extra bullet comes from, where they sight black - the whole shooting process is a routine." Thanks
