  1. Guys - The 2020 primer shortage is now over...... It ended just over 8 hrs ago.... Local time in MS is 8:17 a.m. CST
  2. Last update on this issue - Another 200 flawless rounds loaded (in addition to the previous 300) so I think I am good to load as needed now......Thanks Again guys...Mark
  3. Well guys as you can see I am an early riser. It is 4:45 a.m. on January 1st, 2021 and I just finished a 100 round observation cycle where I removed the die in the primer station to see if any primers were inverted or sideways (none were) and then proceeded to a 300 rounds reloading cycle to see if whatever I did during my tear down and re-assembly “fixed” my issue..... It seems that IT DID fix the issue - or at least the 300 rounds I just finished loading reflect this because previously with my primer issue I should have found 8-12 sideways primers in a batch of 300 - and I had none....Same Exact Primers if you are wondering.. What is crazy is I know not what I did to fix it but I followed everyone’s advise here on the things to review, adjust, tighten, clean, or change....Needless to say I was at my wits end (I am old so I get to have these moments now) and ready to give up....What a great way to start 2021 - Now to give this machine a real workout.... Happy New Year guys and to all three of you - If you are ever in Central MS be sure and message me because lunch (Best BBQ in the US) or dinner (Catfish and Hush-Pupies) is on me...... Now to eat me a bowl of Marshmallow Froot Loops (three of the six grandkids were here earlier this week for a few days) and back out to load a few more hundred rounds.....You guys are the best...Thanks Again...Mark
  4. Guys - I appreciate all of your help and feedback. Bar - It did not register until you circled the alignment rod. Thanks for making that simple for me to understand..... MM - Thanks again for your assistance and support through this trying process... TRP - Your post confirms to me that there may be a solution that can only be achieved by replacement parts.... I am going to re-assemble the press and try one small adjustment related to the shell plate height. I am thinking that if I can tighten it ever so slightly this might address the issue as I have gone through the entire hit list you guys provided. If this does not work my hope is that Michael at Mark7 provides me the support to replace the parts. If not this system will be boxed up and sold...... Again guys - Thanks so much for your support....My wife laughs at me because she said that all the time I have spent monkeying with this press I could have loaded 5000 rounds on the 650......
  5. MM - This is when the primer holder is in its forward most position - not the rear most position. This is at the bottom on the handle stroke where it is not aligned. Make sense?
  6. Guys. I have taken my Evolution down to bare bones and I wonder if what the picture below is the source to my problem. As I look straight down the primer plunger is not lined up with the hole that holds the primer and the silver bar has to actually move ever so slightly to align with the primer plunger before it will come up through the hole. any idea on how to move this silver primer holder bar back 1mm (maybe even less) so that the plunger will be center of the primer holder hole?
  7. MountainMan - Thank you Sir - I am headed back out to the reloading room to go through all of your points one by one to see if after going through all of these points it fixes the issue.... Many Thanks for taking the time to make your post.... Also - neglected to mention - I do use hold down dies on all stations and use a Lee U die above the priming station...I will start at the top of your list and work my way through everything you recommended I check....I do not load military brass - I was fortunate to work a deal where I now have 30k pieces of sorted select brass all being non-military and no stepped brass so it should not be crimp related.... Update you guys later this evening as I am headed out to give all of these suggestions a review and/or fix....Mark
  8. Thanks Baragasam for this information. Going through this list I have all of this covered or managed and what is crazy is my cycle rate is about 10-12 rounds a minute - in other words - SUPER SLOW.....I am super careful as I cycle this system and stop when something does not feel right or sound right.... As you can see the system is clean but after having my second primer detonation this morning and thus far I have loaded less than 1000 rounds I am about to give up on this system.... I would guess that I have loaded 30k-40k rounds on my Dillon 650 without the first primer detonation and this unit has had two in my first 1000 rounds and I have had between 20-30 primers loaded sideways also in this first 1000 rds loaded.....I am kicking myself for selling that NIB Dillon RL1100 I sold to buy this system but that is water under the bridge.... Thanks again for the support and recommendations...I have told myself that I will wait to hear back from Michael because he may tell me it is something I am doing or that he will send me a replacement part that should fix the issue....before I decide what I am going to do.... Happy New Year my friend and thanks again for your support...Mark
  9. Guys - Wanted to ask for guidance please. Photo shows what I am experiencing. About 2-4 out of every 100 rounds I load have sideway seated CCI SPP and I have also experienced two primer discharges since I started loading on my EVO..... As you can see the press and priming slide is clean and free from oil and dirt.... Is this something I am doing wrong or is it machine related? I am 100% sure that the primers are being loaded into the tube in the correct orientation. Wonder if I might have a large primer tube assembly on my small primer set up? Any help is appreciated....Mark
  10. Was in my local Wal-Mart yesterday and they had a shelf full of 28 gauge shells (boxes not cases). I had to stop and look twice to confirm what I saw......was suprised to see 28’s at Wal-Mart.
  11. I know I am about 5+ years late to this wonderful cartridge but my 308 precision rifle (Remington 5R ona KRG Brovo stock) is starting to beat on me a little more than I prefer especially now that I am older so I have decided to either purchase a new rifle (going to go with a Tikka if I get one) or I will rebarrel my 5R......So to my request for help from the forum brain trust please... 1 - What bullet(s) would you recommend I purchase for loading in my goal is to shoot between 200-800yds? 2 - In limited reading it seems that H4350 is one of the preferred powders and if this is so I am in good shape as I have 5lbs. Are the better powders? 3 - DIES - What die sets do you recommend? I realize I may have to “cry once” related to my die purchase and if so that is ok as I want to buy what others here who know this round works for them..... Thanks in advance for any/all feedback.....Yes I am one that tends to buy in reverse....I like to have my reloading supplies on hand before I purchase the rifle and I know right now is not the best time to be getting into a new caliber for loading but I will hunt and search for affordable deals. ......Mark
  12. Thanks Mike - Greatly appreciate your feedback....Mark
  13. Wanted to put this comment in a separate post from my post just above because this point is important... XTremes 147gr Round Nose bullets are .356 where as their 115 and 124gr bullets are .355
  14. XTreme currently, as I post this, has their 147gr RN on sale for 10% off. They have quite a few other bullets on sale for 10% off ( 9mm 115gr and 124gr RN also 10% off right now). You just have to look at their inventory to see which are on sale. I just purchased 4k of the HPCB 124gr which is the primary bullet I shoot.... https://www.xtremebullets.com/9mm-147-RN-p/xc9mm-147rn-b0500.htm
  15. Especially on medium to hot loaded 38’s where the rounds are cylinder stored rather than magagize stored during shooting. Once saw a guys revolver cylinder lock up because he had a round where the lead “creeped” out of the case from the discharge of the other rounds and he ended up with one round with the projectile sticking out of the front of the cylinder....
  16. Guys. Need some help please. Look at the picture below of the small pistol plate that came with my Evolution. Notice the 5 small black screws. Has anyone else here received a Hornady small pistol plate that have these screws on it? I ask because in looking at pictures on line I do not see these screws on other pictures. Feedback and help is appreciated if anyone has these on their new small pistol plate or know why these are on here...Thanks Mark
  17. Or just shoot all rimfire and let the centerfire weapons sit idle except for special occasions. A buddy I shoot with picked up two cases of CCI Mini-Mags last week for $400 a case (0.08 a round)....I offered to purchase one and he kindly said he preferred to not sell any because he said he would burn through those two cases in about a year because his daughter and he both shoot rimfire weapons in SCSA events....
  18. Only one opinion but I run a Dillon 650 and most recently a Evo without a drive. I give all of my pistol brass a light coating of One Shot because without question I can “feel” the difference in the handle pressure required to cycle both presses and I am doing one pass loading of 9mm on my Evo so every station has something going on...This is just my method but once I tried a couple of shots of One Shot I will not go back to reloading dry brass again.... I do think a lot of the feedback you receive will be based on weather you clean your brass with wet tumbling (I do) or corn/walnut media...Corn and walnut leave a “slick” residue on your brass that wet tumbling does not so that is the main reason I use One Shot....
  19. So in simple terms help me understand how/why HP bullets that we load are more accurate than FMJ bullets we load. I ask because I have been very happy with the accuracy I get from 124gr FMJ’s I am shooting at steel out to 35 yards. At 20 yards where I sight in my PCC and Pistols with this load my PCC can produce one hole five shot groups (Half Dollar size) from a rest..... And I have to ask how much more accurate is “more accurate”...... Thanks Mark
  20. Ysrracer - What an amazing list of reloading items for sale or trade. Glad I am in MS because if I was living in an area where these items were within driving distance I would be Broke-Broke-Broke....
  21. W231 under a 124gr XTreme FMJ at 1.10” OAL runs clean and smoke free for me in my pistol and PPC
  22. I am thinking about buying 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo on GB for $600.00 and then carefully taking a ice pick and prying out the primers so I can use them to reload some ammo....
