Yes of course. Local talent can be an incredible source of wisdom. I know there are many forum members here who mentor others at their local ranges. Some of them I've corresponded with and they have readily shared their knowledge. That's awesome.

That's exactly my plan...well, a big part of my plan. I was talking to Steve Anderson and he recommended getting training sooner rather than later. One could say, that's Steve's biz so of course he recommended it. I see it more like Cha-Lee said and that's exactly what Steve said to me. He spends a LOT of his time undoing what people have done to themselves without realizing the issues they have created for themselves. I plan to spend a couple of days privately with Steve this year...in addition to dry fire, match experience, training materials, etc. Steve said let's make a plan that will save you years of trouble. I'm ALL for that. It's actually a very reasonable investment from my seat. I can see myself doing that once a year. I'm wired to look for the most efficient way forward. I know good coaching can accelerate me. There's no substitute for having experienced eyes to guide you.

Anyone switched from Guga Ribas to the Alpha-X? How would you compare the 2?

The Alpha-X looks great and reviews are good. With the adjustments being good, are some of you using it for both Open and Limited? Or do you find yourself getting separate rigs for each?

I have the 550 and 1050 (with bullet feeder on the 1050). Both are great and have their own strengths. Caliber changes on the 1050 are expensive. If I was only going to have one press it would be the 650...but I have single stage and rotary presses too. I load 223 on the 1050 but I consider the 1050 to be a specialized press for straight wall pistol cases and 223. That's what it does best. If you load for other types, the 550 or 650 are better. I started with a Rockchucker single stage and used that for 15 years...then added a turret press...then the 550...and now the 1050. I still use them all, although the single stage is put up for now. For working up different loads quickly, the turret press is hard to beat. Then I take that recipe to the 550 or 1050 depending on what it is for larger runs.

The lightly used Limcat in classifieds could be an option for you. No connection to the seller but it's a good price on a highly optioned low mileage gun.

Oooo that's nasty and it's an awesome excuse. I haven't been stung in years but I was allergic as a kid. I don't plan on testing that out again. Multiple stings in the armpit...ouch. I remember one of my first jobs was a landscaper. I got into a fire ant nest and didn't realize it until they were all over my legs. I took my pants off...in the daytime...in a client's parking lot. No I didn't care who saw me. That hurt.

Agreed. One improvement for me recently is that it's NOT asking me to login every time like it was the last couple of weeks. I never did delete my cookies/cache as that is a huge headache with stored passwords in many locations.

Well, there you go. How much time did you spend with 45 vs 40 in Limited? I resisted .40 for years in my carry guns, strongly preferring 45 in full sized or 9mm in discrete carry. My first real .40 is a Limited gun. It's a different critter on the reloading press for sure.

Welcome aboard and as always, thank you for your service! I moved from NM 2 years ago and would have enjoyed connecting with everyone. I was too busy working, doing falconry and sporting clays to do much with my pistols. I know there are great clubs there and NM is fortunate to have the Whittington Center in Raton.

Travis Haley puts out good resources. I've been watching Vogel's videos and his support thumb is even more aggressive. It's parallel with the slide but higher up.

All good advice and appreciated. I've got the equipment covered for Production and Limited major (Glock, CZ and 2011). I've always had good reloading gear and lots of components (been shooting for over 30 years). I can't shoot a match quickly due to some scheduling issues but I plan to before summer's end. Leaning towards starting in Limited but either way is interesting. I've got the dry fire resources and I'm enjoying that. The hard part has been finding a place I can live fire AND do drills, etc. I think I've got that figured out now and would like to do some of that before going to a match or qualifier.

Thanks for your reply and further elaboration. That was one of the reasons I started this thread was to hear thoughts about which division others would enter if they were starting over again. I have the gear to go either direction (Production or Limited major) but haven't decided yet which I would rather do first. Right now I'm enjoying practicing with both setups. Carry Optics doesn't appeal to me but I can understand why it does for others.
